  1. Thanks for the responses. I cannot get BC summer citrus wicked, have tried CD, LX and ECO - they all start off good but then the flame gets wimpy and poor mp. Maybe it's just that fo - I only used 1 oz. I did add 1 gm of uv inhibitor.
  2. I use a candle warmer when I need to re-melt, very easy.
  3. I'm not sure what size that is but check out alabastercandlesupply.com/ -they have some that looks like that jar. HTH
  4. I think I will try a 50/50 blend tomorrow. My supplier recommended CD or LX wicks if I blend. What works best for you? I like the way CD burns but it's so hard to place the wick right because of the curl.
  5. Depends on how bit your container is. With mine, a small jar takes about 1 hr, larger jars can take 2 hrs.
  6. My son has been visiting me on his spring break from college here at the beach so we have been hanging out. After he leaves tomorrow, I will probably clean the house. I need to take a break from candles cause I can't seem to get anything wicked right so it's not fun any more right now. Also trying to find a decent paying nursing job - they don't pay very well here in Florida for some reason. Any other Florida nurses out there?
  7. Brenda I meant to ask your opinion on what percentage of soy and paraffin you have found works the best for throw, wicking. Is there a big difference in 50/50 vs 75/25?
  8. Thanks for the replies. The tops are completely smooth after pouring and after burning, none of that roughness I was getting after pure soy burn. BUT I am having trouble wicking the 8 oz square mason jar with BC summer citrus. This is the only fo I have tried so far with the new blend I've been doing and I don't want to give up before moving to another fo but dang it is getting old. I like CD wicks and would like to stay with that, but last night I couldn't get a decent mp or flame with a CD 18.
  9. That's what I call it also.
  10. You can get some good disposable masks at Ace Hardward, Home Depot etc., or if you have friend that works in the hospital, you can use surgical masks.
  11. I have been using ezsoy but am experimenting w/ J223 added to it. All of the fo's I have throw good in soy. Does anyone know if fo's that throw in straight soy will usually throw in parasoy blends? I have only tried 1 fo so far (summer citrus from BC-did great) in 75% soy/25% J223 but I plan on trying with a larger % of the J223.
  12. I really like the look of your website! Creative and interesting.
  13. Thanks for the reply Kaytee. I have some eco 6 from a sample pack that I have not tried yet. I seem to have a knack for picking jars that are hard to wick!
  14. Hi, Does anyone use the 12 oz vase jar (or morgan jar)? I'm having a heck of a time wicking it. I am using ezsoy/J223 (75/25), BC summer citrus. Have tried LX22 and CD22 (wouldn't melt to edges), CD 8 x 2 (better mp but flame looks like it's trying to die out. This is the first time I have tried wicking this jar, any help would be much appreciated!
  15. FHG, I would love to see a pic of that if you could post it.
  16. I like Hunters Wick House and Amber Glows
  17. I'm sure everyone has their own method but here is how I do it. Do a search first and try to find what others have used with your jar or sometimes the manuf will recommend. I have several different jars so I pour enough to fill all of them with the same fo and test them all at the same time. If the wick is not working after appropriate time, I pull it out with needle nose pliers and stick a different one in until it looks right. Then when I think I have the right wick, I pour another batch with wick adhered to bottom and burn it all the way down. HTH
  18. Thanks for the reply blazerina. True about the climate, I am in Florida and it will be getting hot soon for a long time. I will post a pic of what I made when I can get my camera working again. I just think it looks ugly.
  19. I have been using ezsoy and am now trying a combo of j223/415 - like it so far.
  20. I have read the extensive thread on making sachets/potpourri with different things such as crushed corn cob, vermiculite, perlite, kitty litter, rock salt, etc. What did anyone find that worked? I tried 1 cup each of vermiculite, perlite and solar salt w/ 1oz fo. It doesn't look too pretty but smells great and is dry. Just curious to know what everyone thought about it.
  21. I recently made my first batch of bath salts with the Morton solar salts, epsom salts, cyclo, dentritic (sp) and fo, and I love it. Do you really need to have dead sea salts or sea salts in it?
  22. Hi, Well I finally made it up to Alabaster Candle Supply in Jemison AL while I was visiting family in Tuscaloosa and picked up a bunch of supplies to try out. I got the 415 and J223 - made a batch yesterday at 75/25 and it is so smooth looking. I will wait a few days to burn. Sure hope this works out cause there just isn't any suppliers any closer. I had tried the EL from FL Soy Solutions (votive was) a couple of mths ago and liked it so I tried their soy last week - hardly any frosting and good HT. Florida sure does need more suppliers!
