  1. Also, don't buy anything less than 17 watts, because anything less just won't cut it.
  2. Curing time with soy is a must. The longer you let it cure, the stronger the throw. A week's time should be sufficient. It's hard to wait though, so don't get impatient and try to burn it anyway, because you'll be disappointed. Another thing is that some scents just don't throw well in soy. The only way to know which ones they are is to try them and see. It would also save you money if you bought scents from a supplier who lists scents that have been tested in soy.
  3. I don't use your type of wax, but I do use the LX wicks and it usually takes at least an LX-10 or 12 to get a good burn in a votive. Definately up the amount of FO to the max, which would be about 1.5 oz FO to 1 lb of wax. Good luck!
  4. You can help to incorporate heavier oils by warming them separately from the wax first, then add it to your wax. If I was using a 1 oz sample bottle, I'd emerse it in water over a double boiler for a few minutes first, then add it to my wax. Be sure to wipe off the water from your bottle so you don't get any water into your wax. You'll have to stir quite a bit until it's fully incorporated. Sometimes with really stubborn oils, I'll stop half way through my pour and stir again to ensure that it hasn't separated. Vanilla based or straight vanillas are usually the ones people have the most trouble with.
  5. Must be the tarts then. I guess you won't be buying any more of those, huh?
  6. These are my favorites from KY: Cool Citrus Basil (B&BW) Frosted Snow Drops (B&BW) MacIntosh Apple Mediterranean Fig Moonlight Magic (B&BW) Pearbery (B&BW) Raspberry Tomato Leaf Summer Breeze (Gain Detergent Scent) Strawberry Rhubarb Raspberry Blossom All throw very strongly!
  7. I don't know about the apple pie scent from KY Candle Supply but every scent that I've ever purchased from there has always had excellent throw...they haven't failed me once. I just wish they had a bigger variety of the types of scents that I like. Any way, I'd definately suggest trying theirs. I use J50 too, so I know it will throw well in it.
  8. You sure it's not the burner itself? I got an electric burner once where only the middle melted and the sides only partially melted, but never fully...so you never got a full melt pool, in turn, you barely good smell the tarts. It was one of Yankee Candle's warmers and the wattage was too low to melt them completely so I returned it. That could be your problem as far as melting goes. I don't know about the tarts being off as far as scent is concerned...where did you get the tarts?
  9. Hey...I can proudly say that I finally got the knack for getting smooth tops, so noe I can speak on the subject, unlike before. I also use OK6228 and found that in order for the sides not to look frosted or rustic like, I had to heat the molds a tad. In addition, I did three pours, instead of two and I finally got the beautiful tops I've been striving for. First pour, I'd pour just under the lip of the mold, then when that shrunk up completely, I'd pour into the shrink hole just so it filled to the original pour line, then the third pour would top it off, with no shrinkage and a beautiful smooth top. I know it's more work, but it's the only way I could finally get what I was looking for and besides, I don't make a whole lot of them, only for my own use, so time is not an issue for me.
  10. Ok, it looks as though you guys think it smells like CK-1. I don't think I've ever smelled CK-1, but believe my daughter had it one time. Since I haven't really smelled that one for sure, but I do have Very Sexy for Women, so I compared the two side by side...I'm still leaning towards that one...but it just might be a little different. All I know for sure is that it's definately a dupe of a designer fragrance and I like it. Thanks for letting me know what you thought after you poured it.
  11. Ok....I'll be waiting to hear what you think.
  12. Thanks for the thread Silvermoon, I just noticed your posted after I responded.
  13. Yeah that's right, it was you Gravity. You think it smells like CK-One?? Wait till you get it in wax, you may find it smells different. Let me know once you pour it, ok?
  14. Awhhh, come on, I remember one of you saying that you got a sampler of the democrat...I just can't remember who. Anyway, I'm pretty sure it's Very Sexy for Women renamed to Democrat. I'm not going to let it drive me crazy trying to figure out where I smelled this before so I'll try my best to let it go now. LOL
  15. I think the color is very nice and I love you're labels. I wouldn't change a thing. Great job!
  16. Sheila: I'm totally lovin' those! Great job!
  17. They weren't that difficult for me to wick. Two wicks won't cut it, you have to use three. I don't know what wax or wicks you're using but I used three LX-24's (if I'm recalling correctly, haven't made those containers in a while) in J-50 and they burned great. I also don't remember how many wicks I tried prior to that, but I don't recall having a whole lot of trouble with that container.
  18. Just wondering how many of you have used the Democrat FO from Nature's Garden? The reason I ask is because this scent is a dupe of another popular scent...I think it smells like Very Sexy for Women...but not exactly sure. All I know is that I've smelled this scent before and it's a dupe of a popular scent who's name has been changed...and it's driving me crazy because I know I've smelled it before but can't put the name with the scent. So, if anyone knows what it is, would you please let me know. Thanks!
  19. I don't care for them much either. I received one for a gift and I had to flip the reeds every few days in order to smell it at all. Since I mainly use tarts to scent my home, which are pretty powerful, the light scent of the reed diffusers is just not going to cut it for me. I tried it in my bathroom because I figured it might do better in a small room, but I still had to flip them every few days, plus the scent wasn't to my liking really, so I tossed it.
  20. Same here with the impulse sealer...you just can't get a professional look without one. Make sure when you use it that you seal off the corners as well and then snip them off just above the area that was sealed. That way you won't have pointy corners to deal with. Also make sure to poke a small air hole prior to hitting it with the heat gun, this way you'll avoid it blowing up like a pillow and it will shrink nice a tight to the tart.
  21. Save on Scents out of New York has a huge selection of men's cologne dupes...but I don't know if they ship to Mexico.
  22. Ubure: Pay no mind to that sarcastic, somewhat bitchy comment by...well, I don't need to tell you who. She's always got something bitchy to say, just take a gander at some of her past posts...I'm sure you'll find many of the same type of remarks. The other folks were probably just kidding around...but I'm sure she wasn't. Don't let her stop you from asking questions, just ignore her because she's got some sort of an attitude problem.
  23. Have you tried Save on Scents? They sell just about every perfume/colgne dupe that there is.
