I could not agree more! That nutty smell is in SO many BC oils. Their best selling Vanilla Velvet is a complete mystery to me. It smells okay, but nothing like vanilla. I just smell a nutty baked good of some sort.

Any dishwashing soap with HOT water will wash out a glass bottle thoroughly. I have never reused a plastic bottle though.

Typical for me all year long. Tropical scents are #1 along with ANY floral. Bakery scents have always been my slowest sellers.

Years ago, I remember standing in a meadow staring at a tall tree covered in wisteria. Not only was the tree absolutely beautiful, but the magnificent scent was like nothing that I have ever smelled in my life.

I have never had any luck using fondant mats with MP. No matter what I do, the base finds its way under the mat and the pattern is not clear at all. Sometimes the mat has even disappeared into the base and I have to pry it out after it hardened. I tried fondant mats with MP at least 10 times with no luck, so I gave up. However, fondant mats work beautifully for me in CP. I have done individual molds, but mostly I line loaf molds with the mat and it works great.

GORGEOUS! I love the look of soaps made with fondant mats more than any other soap. Yours looks wonderful!

I so relate and completely sympathize... I hope this thread enlightens people to use VS with caution. Do not sniff it! It is a great product, but seriously needs warning labels on the bottle.

I use the one from NG and I like it a lot. BCN VS almost blew off my nose a couple of years ago from its painfully strong smell. I think that it is stronger smelling than the one from NG.

Yes, it does smell awful and I think it is far stronger than ammonia. It really should have a warning label on it because the smell is painfully strong. I replace the caps with red caps on the bottles to remind me not to sniff it- thinking it is an FO or something. I did this once a couple of years ago, and I swear that I thought I lost my sense of smell for good. It was a frightening experience to say the least and I have never forgotten it... On another note, I have never had VS horrible smell interfere with the finished product's scent. It is only OOB that VS smells strong and terrible. I have also never had it separate.

I feel your pain. I always refund if the customer sends back every single thing. No freebies for jerk customers- ever. I do not care about feedback from one PITA customer. I can live with it. My positive feedback speaks for itself. I hope that your other sales have turned out much better.

I could not agree more. When you dine at a restaurant, do you think that this same customer would get a response when asking the chef where he buys his ingredients? Do you think that this customer would even have the gall to ask?

Having kids in the house IS a huge factor for many people and this does scare them when it comes to lye. I know a woman with the most awful lye burn and this was completely the reason why it took me years to actually soap even after I had the interest in it. Even now I am the most covered and protected soaper that you have ever seen. That said, I still think that your husband is being very unreasonable by not even educating himself on the subject. I am also not sure what you mean that there is no way in this world he would stand for you telling him NO. ???

Well, your husband is being unreasonable. His opinion should be respected if he is willing to see the entire picture. He obviously is not and I agree there is something deeper there.

I respectfully disagree. I do not know anything about clueless and her husband. However, you had better believe that my husband is not going to do anything that he feels like if I am against it for good reason and neither am I if it pisses him off. This is called marriage. We care for one other- particularly if safety is involved. A caring husband should be concerned about lye. I think a lot of people on this board pooh-pooh the dangers of lye because this is a SOAP MAKING board. Lye IS dangerous. Many seasoned soapers do not remember lye being dangerous because we know how to use it and exactly how to handle it. I agree about having clueless take her husband right along side of her through the entire process. He needs to be educated and his opinion respected.

I am guessing that you never smelled a good rose fragrance oil, perhaps? Sweet Cakes True Rose is pricey, but it smells amazing. Do you like the scent of real roses and just hate rose scented fragrance oils?

I have only had one black cherry smell like cat pee. My favorite Back Cherry is from BCN. Not a single pee note and lots of green.
