  1. Other than jelly & mason jars. What kinds of places/stores would have cases of jars for sale? I know the obvious would be the glass suppliers like fairway or the candle suppliers, but who else? I would love to pick up some glass even semi-locally but am just not sure where to look. Right now I get some jars out of Texas which isn't too bad being in Oklahoma. But if I could find a 2nd jar type locally that would be such a relief.
  2. I know that there are quite a few places like jackel and obi to buy warmers from but most seem to have minimums. What places don't have minimums? I'd really appreciate the help.
  3. Does anyone know of a wick that is very similar to the HTPs? I'm having trouble wicking some heavier scents the 126 seems a bit small and the 1212 is way too big. Since I've not seen anything in between, I was curious about other types. Thanks for the help.
  4. I'm in northwest oklahoma. I haven't had a chance to check with the chamber things keep coming up. good point about cancellations. my town is way to small to have diff tax brackets I mean the town includes about 2700 people with the surrounding country people included. it would be inside. electric depends on the building to an extent. and an electrician seems a bit inappropriate for my purposes because the buildings aren't very large. as far as concessions I was thinking of contacting a 4-H/FFA type group to see if they wanted to have a 'fundraiser'.
  5. Borken Arrow is just outside of Tulsa which I'm sure you've heard of. Bobbie, I use Lonestar for some supplies and have never had a problem. I generally get my supplies from them the day after they are shipped! I also have used candlesoylutions.com in Muskogee and Peaks in Colorado and even BCN's shipping hasn't been to bad for me in northwest Oklahoma. HTH
  6. Which type of fire extinguisher works best for wax fires?
  7. Okay so event insurance unless covered by the building owners insurance already but would probably be a good idea even if its covered and a budget. I'm not sure if I can contact the previous people or not...I wanted to have an idea of what I might be getting into before I even contacted the chamber. I'm sure that they can give me names and maybe even numbers for the previous people. Any more pointers out there?
  8. I've attended a few craft shows in various towns, but the one I would like to do in my own town (the only one we have here actually) was canceled last year because the organizers grew tired of doing it--they are both elderly women. I was considering contacting my CofC and trying to take it over. When I attended as a shopper it seemed great! I often made purchases. So anyway I was wondering what hosting a craft show involves other than the obvious. Any help is welcome!! Here's my list so far, please add anything you can think of! advertising to attract vendors advertising to ensure a good customer turnout renting the building collecting vendor fees arranging vendors in the building being at the building for vendor setup the day before & early the day of contacting a group to provide or providing a concession area myself collecting vendor tax IDs and sales tax for those who do not have them possibly providing coffee/donuts for vendors before show hand out survey sheets to vendors for likes/dislikes to improve future shows
  9. I am trying to find more locations for this jar. Right now I only know of one does anyone else know of others? The one I know of is fairway.
  10. If I search http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=tess&state=2706ta.1.1 for a specific name and the result, the only result for the matter shows this Live/Dead IndicatorDEADAbandonment DateOctober 2, 1997 at the bottom, does that mean I can use what I searched for without any problems? Is is there another place that I should be looking also?
  11. The light was on. I should mention that I have use one before but it was in a restraunt setting so not very relevant...
  12. Okay, so I whipped out the new presto pot yesterday to have some fun. Put my wax in it, turned it on to warm which is where I thought it needed to be and then I waited and waited and nothing. The wax didnt' melt even a drop. So do I need to start it out higher then turn it down? Or am I an unlucky that got ahold of a default presto pot? Oh yeah, I waited approx 30 -45 minutes. The bottom of the pot wasn't warm to the touch.
  13. Let me ask this question in a slightly different way....is it correct that 5, 6, and 7 are okay for scents? but not 1, 2, 3, and 4?
  14. we all know that polypro is safe for scents--is doesn't leak nor does it suck out the scents--but is acrylic safe? I'm not certain how it falls into the plastics scale ratings. Does anyone else know? here's the list i'm talking about, just don't know where acrylic fits in: Type 1 - PETE Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Soda & water containers, some waterproof packaging. Type 2 - HDPE High-Density Polyethylene Milk, detergent & oil bottles. Toys and plastic bags. Type 3 - V Vinyl/Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Food wrap, vegetable oil bottles, blister packages. Type 4 - LDPE Low-Density Polyethylene Many plastic bags. Shrink wrap, garment bags. Type 5 - PP Polypropylene Refrigerated containers, some bags, most bottle tops, some carpets, some food wrap. Type 6 - PS Polystyrene Throwaway utensils, meat packing, protective packing. Type 7 - OTHER Usually layered or mixed plastic. No recycling potential - must be landfilled.
  15. Do you know what the membership requirements are? I couldn't seem to find them on the site. I know with at least one place you must make and sell soap also, is this the same?
  16. I know a lot of you say you use photoshop for pic editing. What version are you using, where did you find it and if you don't mind how much did it cost you? Or if you know of a comparable product for a good price please let me know about it too. Thanks for all your help!!
  17. I was at a show over the weekend just checking it out for future reference. And my sister talked to one of the two candle sellers. I had already determine that his candles must be at least partially paraffin but she went ahead and asked him. He said that they were paraffin and that he had played with/worked with soy before but had a problem getting rid of the "soy scent". Now I make a soy blend and have NO idea what he means by 'soy scent' and obviously I can't really search it as soy is only three letters and scent is extremely common so can you guys help me? TIA
  18. Well, I'm due for a new cell phone anyway so I was wondering if it is possible to use a smart phone like a blackberry to access the internet and process credit cards. Of course I do not have a merchant account with anyone so i would need to know which providers offer online entering of card information. I just think that it would be soooooo much cheaper for me if I didnt' need to have a knucklebuster, laptop, or an actual terminal with me at the shows. It would also be nice if I could incorporate the merchant account into my website so that payments didn't have to be made with paypal. Thanks everyone, I know you will be very helpful !
  19. I didn't have a show, but I did check out one that I was considering for next year and I will definately be doing it!! Wonderful attendence, and many many vendors of which only 2 had candles and with four rooms of booths they were in two different rooms and at opposite ends of those rooms even so the event planners definately know what they are doing!
  20. Thanks for the pics and thoughts. I may try to do something if I can find a base of some sort that would work and I completely agree that the center would have to be braced so it would actually be small sections that connect together.
  21. Renting would be nice but there really just isn't any where around here. I mean the town I'm in has 3000 people and the next closest town that's larger is a hour away.
  22. I understand that this frame while possibly a sturdy frame has no base support and would have something added for the base support what I'm realy wanting to know is if metal pipes instead of pvc pipes would make the overall frame sturdy although still in need of base support...I don't think I'm making much sense unfortunately.
  23. http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32466&highlight=pipe+drape There was a thread posted a while back where Tess said that a pvc made frame was useless due to the lack of stability. I was wondering if it was the particular design used or if maybe a different design maybe this one would be sturdier? Or do you think it would be help to use metal pipes instead of pvc? I've noticed while searching that the ones that can be rented seem to be made of metal so I was curious what the general thoughts were on this?
  24. I was wondering if anyone had problems with pages loading slowly or was the speed alright? I know that my host does have some problems with zencart so I was curious how about others experience with my site in particular.
  25. Do you have any suggestions on making the arc perfect? I am switching labels on the mason jars to a glossy label so size and such will be adjusted. The pic was just a quick one that i had available so I added as per a suggestion earlier. Since you have experience with round labels, what do you suggest for the centering? And as far as a white background, I just need time to build a light box, I'm a full time college student (one year to my BA) and I work 2 part time jobs along with this so as soon as school is out I'll get on top of that. So you felt lost because the links weren't on the side, but at the top? Would making the links bolder have helped or did you feel that they just needed to be moved? And the screen should not need to be scrolled left to right because it is set on a 95% width no matter what the resolution is set at.
