  1. is this normal? rule 10. for a show i really want to do says, "No candle burning or other strong fragrances in buildings or tents due to health & safety concerns of other vendors, visitors and Fire Marshal.." i understand the no candle burning, but what exactly is thought to be a "strong fragrance" I mean, my aroma bead air fresheners are packaged so that the scent can be smelled through the bag--it has seriously helped my sales so far in retail settings. So do you think that might qualify since i would have quite a few of them there? TIA edited to add: I do understand the health side of it also to an extent. when my mother was taking chemo treatments, we weren't allowed to wear perfume/cologne or even deodarant that was strongly scented because the different smells could make some of the patients sick. but this is being held in a fair building or if your unlucky enough, outside in tents.
  2. once you mailed off your forms for dba and sales tax, how long did it take to either get something back or be told you couldn't have the name you wanted? I'm just curious, I'm mailing mine off today here in Oklahoma.
  3. Okay, I totally understand that i need insurance coverage, but how much and what type etc. I've been looking and see that liability and product insurance are both popular options. I have also seen something regarding liability up to 1 mill and even 2 mill, and also fire liability and medical payments. I'm a bit confused as the only insurance I have is on my car. I don't own my home and have not purchased renter's insurance although I probably should. Oh yeah, right now I am making and selling ornies only. However, I am wanting to start selling candles in the very near future so obviously that is what my insurance concern is about. I do not make bath/body right now and may never make it so I'm not concerned with insurance for that area, just the candles mostly. Thank you for all the help that you give.
  4. i understand about quality dyes, but I'm not using them for candles. I am using the dyes for aroma beads so i really want some lighter colors. I have found that even just using a toothpick with the beads can cause me to get a darker color than i want. so I picked up some of the dyes at hobby lobby and since they are not quality in the sense that they are not concentrated, i am able to get really nice colors for my aroma beads.
  5. Does anyone know where I can get liquid candle dyes that are NOT very concentrated? For example, I have purchased packs at Hobby Lobby with a Crafty Candle label that in one had red blue yellow & the other had purple green orange. I'm really needing a brown/tan color & would prefer not to mix--because the colors are not concentrated, they do not blend well when you add in the natural fragrance oil color. Also, the Hobby Lobby i live close to is rather small, maybe the answer is simply that a larger store may offer other colors or possibly Michaels--I've never been to one of those because the closest one is almost 2 hours away, but if it would have what i need, i may just drive there anyway. Thanks!!
  6. Okay, so no one seems to have actually tried this. I may just have to try it:grin2: . Does anyone know is embossing tinsel can be used like fine glitter in ornies? I know I'm full of quesitons sometimes
  7. Yes, I did they are very good points. And it is very interesting reading. I guess in part what I was hoping for was maybe a layout of sorts. The fundraising forms will be easier for me to make since I've been involved in fundraising with school and organizations. But wholesale and consignment that's a whole other fish for me.
  8. Does anyone have sample forms that they would be willing to post? Or maybe you know of an address where any of these can be found. or possibly even you could just say what you have listed on your forms. for instance what info is needed for a wholesale account--other company's name, contact name, address, phone number, etc......
  9. That's a really good point about most females wanting nice smelling cares than males. At least until you get to the guys that spend small fortunes on their cars to make the look nice, then sometimes they start caring about how the smell a little bit more. I think almost all of my sales have been to women.
  10. Are mica powders and embossing powders the same thing? Or more accurately can they be used the same way in ornies for instance? what about the "soap colorizing powders" that they appear to sell at michaels? I obviously don't know anything about these different powders--i don't make soap or do scrapbooking/card making. If this question has already been asked somewhere could you just direct as to what to search.... Thanks for all of your replies! Added: Well I did some searching and I learn they are not the same. Embossing powders melt when heat is added. But I still am wondering if it would matter since I would have to melt the aroma beads anyway.....
  11. I've done some searching but... I've seen that comfort blend needs to cure for 3 to 7 days depending on the scent and that GB 415 needs to cure 7 to 14 days depending on the scent. So what do you think would be a happy median for blending these two as far as cure time goes? I have such a difficult time waiting... TIA Jennifer
  12. What are some of your best selling scents for aroma bead air fresheners? I'm guessing probably not bakery scents. I seem to sell fruity/floral scents well, but I haven't been selling long yet.
  13. Did you add liquid color to the beads also or just colored mica powder? I've been making and selling a few of these and absolutely loved the effect of the mica in yours.
  14. Thank you! Those are absolutely beautiful!
  15. Does anyone have a picture of an aroma bead ornie with mica powders? I would really like to see one just to know better what it looks like. Thanks, Jennifer
  16. You can get 8 oz square masons at www.candlesoylutions.com they are out of Muskogee, Oklahoma which is fairly close to Tulsa.
  17. Thanks, I looked some more on the old boards, but couldn't find much there. I'm just not familiar with any parrafin waxes. but have read often that 415 is best used as a base wax, so I thought i would try it as just that if somone could point me in a general direction. J50 was one of the waxes that I read about so it may be the one I try. Thanks again
  18. Does anyone have suggestions for which parrafin to blend with 415? i am hoping for a soft wax so that I can easily cut it, but will look into whatever is needed as I have access to a heated knife. I am looking to increase hot scent throw and improve the overall wax stability--frosting, cauliflower top, bad adhesion to glass--and I will welcome any and all thoughts on this topic. Also are all uv stabilizers created equal or is there a difference? Thanks for you help
  19. I kind of have the same problem. When I first pour, I get fairly smooth tops, but after each of the first 3 burns, I get really bad cauliflower tops. If I can get the wicks to last through those burns, the tops will be smooth with the rest of the burns. I'm wondering if I should try more BW, but I'm already using 4%. I've also considered using parrafin, do you think I could get buy with as little as 10%? Also, does parrafin or anything else out there soften soy wax?
  20. Thanks for the info on the mica powders at some point in the future I will definately try them! Right now though all I have access is glitter--I live in a very small town about 2700 people. I can drive 45 minutes to a Hobby Lobby and Wal-Mart, but with the prices of fuel I thought that I would see if I could use anything that is a bit closer and wouldn't cost me an arm or leg to go buy or have shipped. I've never heard of this or seen it, is it just a really fine form of glitter?
  21. I have read that you can use mica powders and glitter when you make aroma beads and ornies. My question is--is there a specific type of glitter or will just any glitter from a craft section be okay? I made some of these for the first time today and wow! are the scented strong and very pretty. When I was in Alco (discount store in small towns) I saw that they had some red, gold, and mult color glitter tubes on clearance for just $1. I was hoping to be able to use it for some of my ornies. Thanks for your help!!
  22. Very pretty candles!! and speaking of hot, we are expecting a temperature of 104 with a heat index around or above 110 here in northwest Oklahoma. 92 sounds like a blessing **almost** we need a little smiley face that's beat red and dripping sweat
  23. Yep, I use cheese cloth too. It's what I'm used to from growing up and my mom and dad were straining the honey--now THAT is a hot job.
  24. welcome! I've found that the people on this board can be very helpful. As a word of advise, they prefer to help those that help themselves. But then again, don't we all? That's all the advice I can give you because I haven't tried any of those waxes.
  25. I am very interested in making the aroma bead ornies and also of course just aroma beads. My question is simple- Do any requirements exist concerning the labeling of either of these products? For instance weight, warnings or will just business info and the scent suffice?
