  1. Does anyone know what the blend percentages are? I'm just wanting to know how much paraffin and how much soy. Not specific waxes. I would like to know so that I know if I can label it the same way I label my own blend or if I will need to add more soy or more parafin to achieve approx the same percentages in my personal blend. Does anyone follow this at all cause I'm not sure I'm making sense. TIA Jenn
  2. Thanks everyone. It sounds as if the price is good at $3.25 for filtered yellow blocks. But it still may be a bit far to drive if I don't need much or anything else. (2 hours one way)
  3. Can those of you who make beeswax products or just add to soy tell me your average cost before shipping or pickup per pound? I am trying to decide if an in state supplier is priced well. I have looked at numurous sites (over a dozen to be more exact) and it is starting to look like a good price but I would still like a comparison. Please state if it is white or yellow, clean or needs cleaned, blocks or beads. That information would also help in my decision process. TIA Jennifer
  4. would anyone be willing to share their chart of accounts used in any tax program--quickbooks, peachtree, easyacct, quicken, anything. Most of these programs allow you to print or save a list of just the accounts (no financial numbers) so I don't think this is being too invasive and you can always pm me or email me at jennfairview @ yahoo.com I would greatly appreciate it. TIA
  5. my sister just recently got a kodak all-in-one. the one that's priced closer to $200. the ink cartridges are only $10 each and they last a really long time--think about it you can't be printing pics and constantly running out of ink. it seems to be really good for her so far. so when I shell out money for a new printer I think I may go that way.
  6. the ones I get from LS never have the squirt caps, but the ones I get from BCN do so I just put the old caps on the new bottles then I have extras for the LS scents that don't come with them which means no extra $$ out of my pocket--just don't use the caps on one scent and then change to a different one unless you plan to do some washing first.
  7. I learned the same lesson too, the hard way of course. I couldn't hear the sound of the wax running out over the sound of my fish tanks filter running water back into the tank. Oh well, lol live and learn.
  8. No I am not going to ask 'what is the best wax'. Instead what I want to know is this. I currently blend wax--parafin and soy--for my container candles is there anything that I could add to my current blend to be able to use it for tarts? I suppose I wouldn't have to but I know that the container blends may not release from molds too well. TIA
  9. I know that most people store slabs and flaked waxes in plastic storage bins. Do those who use soft waxes like comfort blend also use plastic bins or have you found a better way? TIA Jenn
  10. candlewarmers.com Does anyone know how they ship and what the rates tend to be? I am seriously considering order from them, but when I add items to the cart I did not see a way to preview the shipping cost. TIA, Jennifer
  11. Okay everyone, I need your input. I've done craft shows before and even the very first show I did was approx 10,000 attendence, not sure how true that was or wasn't but anyway... I am going to be doing a home and garden expo show, the only other candles around are 1 handmade and 1 order and sell. I plan to sell only ornies and wickless candles. The projected attendence from last year was 27,000 and I believe it completely cause I did scope out the show. Now my question is this...if money for supplies was not a object and you could make essentially as much product as you wanted to take to the show, how much would you make and bring with you. This particular home and garden show is the second or third largest in the state and it is constantly growing. They had a modular home in the show last year and during the 3 days of the show sold 15--that doesn't include anything occuring after the show. Thank you all in advance and let me know if you have more questions!!
  12. Well, I just checked in with my first consignment account. And I am pleasantly surprised since I honestly had no expectations with sales. I went in figuring that if I sold something wonderful cause my only expense was driving over there to deliver. And if I didn't sell well that was okay too but I already knew that my products sell fairly well in that area. She told me which products she would like to see more of and just requested that I call ahead when I come out with them so that she can cut a check for what was already sold. So chin up for those considering consignment but worried about some of the negative feelings out there. Jennifer
  13. I agree with this. That's why if someone were to ask I would really not want to state a time period. As far as testing, well obviously I can do that, but how long I smell something can vary greatly by how long another person smells something. So since it isn't like traditional candles which do burn away I was curious about what other people say. Thank you all
  14. how long do they last? I have tried a search and found very little information regarding this. if a customer were to ask this, I suppose my answer would be well it depends on the wattage of you burner and how often (if ever) you turn off the warmer. From my own use it seems that allowing the wax to re-solidify occasionally pumps the scent back up somehow (i would love to know why or if i'm just getting use to the scent). Anyway TIA
  15. Hey where did CandleSoylutions move to? I looked around their website and didnt' see mention of anything. Thanks
  16. that a paid demonstration at a folk festival in a really really small town (maybe 50 people) would be my best single event sales so far this year. Now don't get me wrong it wasn't very much but it does make up those couple of shows that I just barely covered booth fee! So keep in mind that the size of the show isn't always the most important part of your sales!
  17. from the burner or melter. How do all you out there tell you customers to do this? Or better yet, how do you do it yourselves? I tried putting mine in the freezer thinking that it would shrink the wax enough that I might could just slide it out, but not luck, I actually used a kitchen utensil to break the wax in half and then of course it slid out. I did try searching this but the exact wording is a bit difficult so I'd love any help you want to give! TIA
  18. I work in a grocery store and we had a bad odor in the back room one day and decided to light up one of these babies and charge it to the penny pinching owner lol. Anways, we didn't burn it for more than an hour or two, but none of us could smell the candle and as for getting rid of the smell, I don't really think it helped...I think our noses just got use to the scent and started blocking it out. And I have to say that I am surprised that the glass has been cracking for others...it really does seem like a heavy glass.
  19. I've not ever had a problem with food cooked in the over tasting strange. But with that being said...I used to put my cookie sheets in a spare freezer to cook them off faster and both my dad and his g/f claimed that the ice then smelled and tasted funny. HTH
  20. As long as you keep really good records showing that you conducted yourself as a business rather than a hobby you will be just fine with the IRS. Good records, intention, and the ability to show that you were attempting to be a 'successful' business are all you need if you are ever questioned.
  21. I don't know about the others, but I use this wax in a blend with soy wax. Because while I like soy I didn't want to 'embrace' the bad appearance plus I get a truly awesome throw by blending with 4627.
  22. For all you people in or around Oklahoma, where do you get your jars and tins? I know the candle suppliers in Colorado and Texas that have them but would love to just drive to OKC or even Tulsa and just pick up a few cases. So let me in on your secret jar suppliers. TIA
  23. $45 does seem expensive, I have a place locally that will screen print shirts for $3 if you bring the shirt in and $8 or 9 if you use one of theirs, course that is not printing anything really big or on both sides, but still it should be able to be done for a decent price. Your saying are fine IMO, but I would swear that I've seen at least one of them on shirts somewhere before. Good Luck
  24. To add a bit about the EIN. If you get one and don't really need it--no employees--you'll end up with more paperwork than you relaly need to be doing.
  25. Not to get too far off topic here, but when you all buy the warmers from Wal-Mart, etc. Do you set up as tax exempt? Or do you just eat the price of the tax/charge it on to your customer rather than explain to Wal-Mart that you are going to be re-selling their item?
