  1. Oops! Sorry. I didn't see the part about the double boiler. My heart goes out to you. I think many of us started out using a double boiler and well.... loathing it! LOL Definitely go to Wally's or Target and get a presto or even a turkey roaster. That way you can heat a lot more wax and candle making will go faster for you!!
  2. This is what I do only I have a wax melter. I pour just enough in my pour pot for each jar. Mix my FO and dye for each candle, pour into the jar, clean out the jar, and repeat for each candle. It takes a while but I know its been done correctly. I thought about doing them the other way, mixing FO in the jar but didn't want to risk dealing with the FO not mixing properly or at the right temp.
  3. What I'm thinking is the temp of your wax is gonna lower a lot once you pour into your jar. You would have to immediately pour your wax at its highest heating temp and mix the FO at the same time to maximize the heat of the wax. Also, you should probably heat the jar just before pouring so the wax will lose less heat. Personally I don't think its a great way mix your FO and it has the potential to create more problems than is necessary. I do know that there has been at least one other poster here who did that but I have no idea how their testing went. Who knows, it may work out for you.
  4. Did you by chance get your candy corn FO from C&S? They have a really good one that works great in soy. I love the idea of your pillars. I have been wanting to get some of those tall slender pyramid ones. I had to give up on pillars for a while cause they just don't sell around here.
  5. That's the one I am waiting on too! All the oils you ordered from Aztec I am also curious about especially Volcano. What kind of a scent is it?
  6. How did I miss these? They are beautiful. You have such talent!!
  7. Yes! I am liking having this gallery back. Its much easier to post pictures. Like others, I have not figured out the other one yet.
  8. Nice work! Very pretty soaps and very creative.
  9. When I used a paraffin wax I found that I didn't need much of a cure time. But it is always best to let the wax fully harden for at least 24 hours or longer is better. For example; for selling I make the candles a week ahead of time. For testing a new FO or wick I'd wait until the next day to test. The answer will be different for other waxes. Soy and palm waxes are different. Their crystalline structures can take up to 3 days to develop and for the candle to fully harden. If you take a newly made palm wax candle less than 24 hrs old and a week old palm wax candle and burn them side by side you will see a big difference in the burn characteristics.
  10. I make salt bars using CS Coconut Lime. Not the coconut lime verbena. Anyway, the scent is great in CP and sticks pretty darn good without morphing. It can be an oil 'seeper' if you know what I mean. So I keep it a no more than 1oz PPO. If it does seep it completely reabsorbs back into the soap after its cut and cured. The last time I used it I put in a small amount of lime EO to make the lime pop. That way I could cut back slightly on the FO and had no seepage at all. Anyway, It sells really fast for me and has become one of my favorites.
  11. The Daffodil rocks in CP and palm wax. I used to drink a lot of chai tea. Its a creamy iced tea with lots of spice. You know how people drink iced coffee? Well this is an iced tea, black tea I think, with lots of heavy cream, and spices like ginger, nutmeg, not sure what else. Very refreshing in the summer! Anyway, thats what it tastes like. I don't think I've smelled FMC's creamy chai tea. I must have but have no memory. It's not one I was looking for at the time. But next time I am out there I will give it a sniff.
  12. What do you mean your cart was emptied out? While you were shopping?
  13. Thanks for the tip. I may end up having to HP my coconut soap. Right not the soapalooza Hawaiian Sandalwood coconut is holding. No sandalwood but the coconut really comes thru. The other day I got a sample of Black Coconut from Aztec and put that in some liquid hand soap I had. Yowzer! Does that smell yummy in my soap. I only have a small sample so I don't have enough to try out in CP. But this coconut smells different than others-- very sophisticated, a little musky and fruity yet the coconut is strong. Its perfect for lotion and butters I think. I may try this one in CP to.
  14. I like the peace theme. how about Peace on Earth? or Star of David or Star of the Magi Away in a Manger Madonna and Son King of Kings Prince of Peace
  15. I read on Mad Oils website they have a FO mixtress who concocts their oils. There's a picture of her there too
  16. Well, I haven't smelled the Cannibus Sativa from BW so I can't say what it smells like. Re the real MJ... I was a young hippie chick flower child in the sixties... you figure it out.
  17. Nice job. Rustic pillars are my fav next to marbled.
  18. I used a 50/50% blend of Tassi Lavender and Blue Chamomile from Soapalooza. Had lots of time to swirl but then its a high olive oil recipe.. I had a little too much time and had to wait for the right consistency to layer the colors so I could do the mantra.
  19. It's one of their EO blends. Its just called Patchouli Lime.
  20. You don't have HP shave soap but I do. I guess it depends on your recipe. I use several steps and both NaOH and KOH. Its one of the few soaps I HP.
  21. This is part of my regular bastile soap line. Just trying out safflower powder for the first time for yellow. The picture is slightly enhanced so the yellow is brighter than the real soap but passable. I think I will stick with brighter micas. In the mold and cut pix attached. I did a lovely mantra swirl that came out very nice but does not show up too well in the pics.
  22. Dang! That is a whole lot of bad luck. Remember the old saying "bad luck comes in threes" I think you quadrupled that! Anyway, I am glad to see you are getting through this and starting to have a little fun now. I always have fun ordering stuff! LOL I think you have me sold on Mad Oils. I love low shipping and great oils. When I can start ordering again (in November) I will probably sampe a few. So be sure to include reviews on these. Thanks!
  23. I just smelled my patchouli lime again. BTW-- its from Moonworks. I can't put my finger on it but something in it that has a sharp note.. maybe there is some litsea in it? IDK... its just not what my lime and patch EOs would smell like if I mixed them. KWIM?
  24. That is a lot of money to pay each month! Glad you are able to start buying supplies. I am in a somewhat similar situation, nothing medical, its just that I won't have that extra income to spend until November. So you can imagine I am counting the months, weeks, and days until then! LOL So what did you get?? Are you going to give us some reviews? Hint hint!
