  1. I have a recipe for salt bars with it in it. Is it the fine grain (like table salt) or course? The fine grain will make a nice smooth bar that doesn't scratch.
  2. I used to make them a long time ago. I quit because they didn't sell. Not one. I think you will have to decide if you want to make this a special order. Maybe it will work out for you.
  3. Thanks so much you two! I've been using 'basic' EOs and I am wanting to branch out and experiment more.
  4. Thanks for the kind comments. Scented & 8Granones- I mix my TD in with my lye water because its water soluble. I have always done it this way with no problems. Nor does it heat up my soap. This TD I got from Mad Oils and its the one creating the specks. JC suggested I mix in with my oils instead as she had a similar problem and that fixed it. So I will try that with my next batch. If that doesn't work I'll try sifting. If all else fails I will just get the TD from TKB that I have always used before with no problems.
  5. Thanks for looking! What looks like stearic spots is actually the TD problem I've been having. The batter was pretty soupy but I still banged the mold against the counter. Now wondering if I didn't create the teeny air pockets myself banging the mold. The TD specks and the tiny air pockets are just making me mad! LOL I need to make my Daffodils soap next and have to figure out how to minimize these or get rid of them altogether.
  6. I'm not really sure.. I'm thinking of the 'tobacco' scent that is used in fragrance oils. Kind of smoky, musky, sweet, etc. Think of pipe tobacco, tobacco shops, grandpa's pipe, smoking dens, etc. Not sure how to describe it. Just wondering how they get those tobacco notes and if there are EO(s) that can mimic that.
  7. I know you will do a terrific job! Congrats! Here's my 2 thumbs up!
  8. Here are the cut pics. I was surprised at the 'pits' in the soap. Little teeny tiny air pockets. I know I pounded the mold quite a bit to release air and still got these little pockets. Wondering if it could be too much SB?
  9. Thanks everyone for looking. I'm glad I am not the only one having trouble with the TD. I think the best TD I bought was from TKB Trading. At least it was the one that I had the least trouble with re specks in the finished soap. But before I give up on the Mad Oils TD I will try putting it in with my oils and blending it to see if that helps. If it doesn't I will have to order some TD from TKB.
  10. Just wondering. Seems to me it would make a great note in a men's line. I am still learning my EOs and haven't run across anything I know of that smells like it.
  11. Thanks Sonoma Roses! I'm going to look for because now I am just plain curious!
  12. Getting wicks right is one thing... now the fragrance testing can be another one of those hair pullers!
  13. Welcome to Craft Server! Glad you decided to start posting. I think there is a point at which it gets more confusing to continue reading and you just need to jump in and do something hands on to learn. Working with wax can be both fun and frustrating. That's why I think it helps to start out with one candle in mind and one wax and work with that until you feel confident about it. This is a great place to learn and there are some good people here willing to help out when you have any questions or concerns.
  14. I really like the Voodoo mica. Thats the stronger raspberry pink color. Thats at 1t PPO with the TD already added so it came out quite nicely. Still looking for a pretty little princess type pink... the search is on... LOL
  15. I recently got samples of Desert Sage and Sweetgrass from Elements. Both smell great, light, airy, and fresh. I can see citrus with either; sage + citrus, and citrus + grass. Blackberry would definitely work with sage, or vanilla, or pine, cedar, or another berry scent.
  16. I'm going to the store in the next couple days and look for it. Would my grocer's have it? Maybe in the health food isle?
  17. I tend to add stuff to my oils too. But I always added my TD to my lye because it the water soluble and not the oil one. Maybe I will try adding it to my oils next time and see if it helps. I just hate cutting into my soap and seeing those TD speckles.
  18. Don't give up on the heat gun idea. I found I got much smoother tops holding the gun at an angle and farther away from the top. I also hold the gun in a circular motion. The idea is to gently and slowly melt the tops just enough. Believe me it took me a while before I could master smoothing my tops with a heat gun. But it works like a champ!
  19. I found zincs burn much cooler than CDs. Its one of the reasons I selected zincs over CDs. I wanted the glass container to be cool to the touch and time after time zincs passed the test. CDs are great wicks but I just didn't like the way they curled and made the container hot to the touch on one side. But that is my experience and yours may be different with a different wax and container combo.
  20. I am very curious about what you find out about it when you try it. Would you mind posting about it and let us know how you like the kiefer in your soap? Sounds like it does double duty; making the soap harder and more creamy. I am really into milk and yogurt soaps and never thought about using it before... well hadn't really heard about it until you posted it.
  21. This is Sensuous Black Rose with Geranium EO. Colors are Mad Oils Voodoo and Bazooka Jo. I added rose kaolin clay to the colored batter so it sort of made the 2 colors indistinguishable. Will do better next time. Sigh... still working on my swirls. This is a new recipe and I have not got the hang of it yet but I will get better next time... Pics of the in the mold and cut. If you notice on the closeups you can see specs of TD. I put my TD in the lye water (its water soluble type). Looks like I will have to strain the lye solution before adding it to my oils. PS the glitter on top is Mad Oils Nina Simone
  22. I haven't tried CS Peach Nector but their Peach is wonderful. Very strong and true, smells just like a fresh Georgia peach. The best peach scent I have found. Wondering what the two blended together would make?!!
  23. I had to look up kiefer. LOL Its a kind of yogurt-like milk drink? Sounds good. Why would that make soap harder? I would think it would make it creamier? Well next time I get some money I think I am going to order some to try out. Those that use it have you had any comments from customers about it?
