  1. Nothing magical about what I use. I use either a wooden skewer or a stainless steel rod (it's actually a cut off end of a tall wick pin) or my ss spoon. To "heap" the top or swirl the top of my loaf's I use an old paring knife that used to belong to my grandma, that I have had for well over 30 years. I never thought of a knitting needle. The ones I have are aluminum, so they won't work, but I bet the wooden ones would work and you can get them in all different diameters.
  2. For personal use? Probably not, but it seems like that would get really expensive really fast. And the wax and carrier oils is what I assume would help them with longevity. I don't think straight FO would last very long. (don't know though, have never tried it) which again, would get pretty expensive pretty quickly. JMO though since I've never tried it. These are just assumptions based on what I think would happen.
  3. LOL I wanted too, trust me I did, but he wouldn't have listened or cared, so I decided to not waste my breath and just shop at the booths that didn't try to feed me (or anyone else) a line...
  4. Not the best pics, they do look much better in person. Each basket has a 16oz candle, a votive, 2 full sized soaps and a 4oz lotion. The first pics are just with the shrink wrap to hold them in place, then the charm, then the done baskets. The done baskets really do look much better, and each one has that little gold charm. Probably too small for the basket, but I don't care. I like it. LOL and these baskets are for my aunt, so she isn't going to care either. The "Handmade with love" charm is smaller than a dime. I tried to get a close-up but it's not the best quality picture...
  5. Last year I asked him where he got his Monkey Farts Essential Oil. (Thinking that would put him on the spot) He just said "there are a lot of essential oil suppliers on the internet" I think he thought I was trying to "steal" his ideas, or something. Who knows... But that is one of the (many) reasons I didn't approach him this year.
  6. Yeah, but then I would have just caused a scene. No sense in that. And I may want to be a vendor at this fair some day. He also had hot pink, bright yellow, lime green and neon orange in his "all naturally organic" candles. Like I said, nothing against the product itself, it seemed like a perfectly fine product. Just the claims got to me. LOL
  7. That's good. And yes, from the looks of the candle after only 2 hours, I'd probably wick down and re-test. I use C&S pre-production pillar and votive blend wax and LOVE IT! It has great hot and cold throws and you pretty much can heat and pour at any temp and the results are pretty consistent. Only problem is no rustics with this wax, but that's okay. I have my straight paraffin for that.
  8. I was at a craft fair this weekend. It's the same one I go to every year. There is a soy vendor there. NOTHING against his products themselves. They look very nice, have great CT, and he was burning one and it had a decent HT (the place was huge, and there were a lot of competing smells throughout so that was hard to gauge, but when you were close you could smell it) However, last year I just stopped by and was talking to him and he was telling me his candles were all naturally organic, he used nothing but Essential Oils in any of them (even though he had scents like Monkey Farts, Fruit Slices, and some others that were clearly NOT EO's) This year, when I walked by I overheard him telling a woman he grew his own soy wax (YES WAX- NOT BEANS, he was adamant about that) so he didn't have to have it shipped to him like other soy candle makers, he did it all himself. SMH... I just dont' understand why people think it's okay to make claims like that. I just - I couldn't even stop to talk to him this year because I have a feeling I would have gone off on him. Anyway, that is my rant on the whole "claims" issue today. I'm speechless about it really. I just don't have the words...
  9. I use 4625 with some other additives and use a 24 ply flat braid. I get a perfect burn with them every time.
  10. The 3 I have done so far have compared very nicely to last year's shows. The one I have left (in December) I'll have nothing to compare too because I haven't done this one in probably about 10 years. I went to one yesterday as a consumer and I honestly don't know how this lotion/body butter lady keeps her prices so low - and her product is AMAZING. I bought a 5oz body butter and a 2oz lotion. Separately they were $7 & $3 but because I bought them together she only charged me $8. (I gave her $10 anyway - knowing how good her stuff was and didn't want her to undercut herself) Anyway - that's neither here nor there, but just wanted to point out I go to this particular craft fair every year, and I typically don't buy much because it seems overpriced. This year the vendors all seemed very reasonable and I ended up buying more than I normally do because of it. Thinking of lowering my prices just a scoch for my December show just to see. IDK though... Not sure if the lady I bought from is part of this board or not. If she is her company is called "beehappy" and it's great stuff.
  11. I think there are a couple of people on the board who have ordered from her. She's on my list when I need something, but I haven't ordered yet. I am in her FB group, and I subscribe to her channel (have for about a year, long before she started BeScented) Jennifer is wonderful and she has always been very helpful to me. Her kids in the videos are adorable (when they aren't screaming and even then! LOL).
  12. You would have to get spooled wicking in the size of wick you need. Good luck!
  13. I have barely successfully wicked container palm with a regular wick, I don't want to think of the nightmare a wood wick would be. LOL Good luck if you try it! I think it would look really pretty!
  14. You could level it. Traditional pillar molds make the where you pour to the top, the bottom of your candle, so it makes it not as noticeable. The "line" you can see is probably from letting the candle cool too much before your repour or not a hot enough repour. With your mold, the top of the mold is the top of the pillar so leveling it might be a challenge. I have no advice for that other than maybe take a heat gun to it before you unmold? Good luck.
  15. BeScented has what seems like some really great products. I haven't ordered yet, but almost everyone I know that has, has been well pleased with the product.
  16. I don't mind the blending. Makes me feel like a scientist!! LOL But I agree, it would be nice to not have too so we could get the EXACT same color each and every time. Mine is very close to the same everytime, but I do notice there are times where I'm a little heavy handed with one or the other color.
  17. How did I miss this? I love them! Very cute...
  18. Rocky Mountain Forest Mountain Forest Smokey Mountains Forest Terrain Mountain Hike For some reason I am stuck on Mountain & Forest. I'm not good at this type of thing though...
  19. She/he was probably just repeating what they had heard so many many many times about soy wax. The main selling point of soy candles is "no soot" so people are starting to equate any soy products with "no soot" whether it's something that burns or not. *sigh*
  20. I have been trying to educate for years (all I use or ever have used is paraffin - I tried soy, I personally didn't like it - but that was MY preference and not the fault of the wax - I would never bash against something I didn't use!) and it seems that people don't want to hear the FACTS; they just want sell THEIR product - whatever product that is. And lead in wicks? Has she been under a damn rock? There hasn't been lead in wicks since at least the 80's, maybe 70's. I don't remember when they were banned, but even just the tiniest bit of research will tell you this. Which in all honesty, the news outlet should have vetted that info before putting it out there, but media is just as lazy/non-caring as the people spreading the non-FACTS. Anyway, when you decide to stand on that soap-box, I will be right there beside you. I try to stay out of discussions I know are going to turn into bash sessions but sometimes it really is hard to hold my tongue when I KNOW the information being spewed is just absolutely wrong.
