  1. Your hard work has been worthwhile, those are just gorgeous. I am sure those will fly out at the fundraiser. By the way, is the overpour scented or just the different coloured chunks?
  2. I love how creamy looking they are. Very pretty!!
  3. I have to agree, Stacy is extremely helpful and her customer service is great, her oils are fantastic as well. My order can take anything from 10 to 21 days to get to me here in Iceland, but sure is worth the wait. Let us know what you think of the oils when you get them - post in the Fragrance Discussion Section and we can all oooh and ahhh at what you got.
  4. Thanks again to everyone for the comments, makes me feel motivated to do more and experiment with different colours.
  5. Love the bright chunk colours, very pretty.
  6. Those are absolutely gorgeous, I especially like the green one. The frosting "texture" is just great.
  7. Anjie, I think that is burning very well. The next couple of burns will tell if it will break through the back wall. This is pretty much how my hearts burn, although I have only made unscented ones, so will have to start testing again once I start scenting them!
  8. Me again. Wanted to just add that rustics don´t have to be of one particular look, what Top said is very true, those do have an antique look and I would have been happy if mine had turned out like that in the beginning. I didn´t even mention in my previous post what a great colour they are, so well done and keep on posting those pics so we can see how you are getting on.:smiley2:
  9. Hi there. If you go onto the search feature, press advanced search and then type in "dipping tapers" a lot of threads come up about this subject. Go down the page to one called "How long"? and CandleMan gives a lot of links which should help you. There is a lot of info and I hope this can give you the answers you are looking for.:smiley2:
  10. Rustics take some practice, but once you get them down, they are really great to make. I think the holes on the side are from pouring too cool. When you pour into the mould some bubbles form there and unless you tap the mould or use your heat gun briefly around the outside of the mould they create these holes on the cande. I can tell you it takes a lot of trial and error, but keep practicing and you should see some good results soon.
  11. Thanks Trish. I am very pleased with how they burn. As the top of the candle is quite tapered the wick does need to be trimmed quite regularly, then the corners fold in a bit and it seems to self consume. I have had no blow outs, but more testing of the heavier fragrances need to be done.
  12. Thanks for the nice comments everyone - I sure enjoyed making them.
  13. Thanks Anjie, this is a 6.5" triangle oblique mould and I got it from C&S. I used three colours for the Apple Blossom candles - White, green and 2 small layers of light pink (could have been a bit darker), but pink is such a hard colour to get right because I use liquid colour. Looks like there is no colour whatsoever so you add more and more and then when it cools, wham you have a seriously strong BRIGHT pink, so I was just doing a swirl with a toothpick and getting very bored waitng for the sample to cool, but next time it may be a bit darker.:smiley2:
  14. I think I am on a roll here! The first set are Cucumber Melon from AH and the next lot are scented Apple Blossom from Peak´s. I wanted to get subtle colours for the Apple Blossom and the pink layer is a little bit darker in real life and they have a bit more frosting on them than you can see in the pics. I love making these, even though they are time consuming, you just do not know what they will look like until you pull them out of the mould, which is half the fun of making these rustics.:smiley2: The fluted cucumer melon pillar looks very crooked, but I think my photography skills need more practice. Thanks for looking.
  15. Unmoulded these this morning and I am doing a happy dance:bliss: because these turned out just the way I wanted them too. This is straight paraffin, with stearic and UV. The FO is from AH and they smell great:drool: . Took quite a bit of practice to get this look and thank goodness I took lotsa notes. Want to thank the great candlemakers on this board for their inspiration, i.e. JudyVega, Eugenia, Trish, ShannonWY, Donita and many more who are always showing their work and sharing their knowledge of this addicting "hobby"!:smiley2:
  16. I love the idea of these candles, especially with the palm wax. The waterslide decals are a good idea and I think you did a really good job on those candles. Very nice indeed.
  17. Sabrina those look fantastic and lovely colours. Congrats on the order, I am sure they will be very happy with them.
  18. Candle Man what rotten luck with the UV, and it is soooo expensive. I bought a 1oz bag from AH which was over $3.00 and I see that their 8oz bag is $25!! - Peak´s is only $12.90, so guess I will be getting some from Peak´s when I next send an order.
  19. Hi, how many bottles of FO do you have to order to qualify for the discount? Could not find that info when I did a quick search of their site. Thanks
  20. Thanks so much, just wanted to check on the levelling off issue.
  21. Seems like a very basic question, but what is the best way to measure out UV? I have some 1.25cc scoops from AH, but no idea how many of these I need to put into 1 pound of wax. Could I use a 1/2 tsp measure that I normally use for baking, and does it need to be levelled off on the spoon, or is accuracy not that important with this additive?:smiley2: Thanks so much.
  22. Sorry, I don´t have the link, but was just looking at Candlechem on Ebay and they had many different size lids like that. Not sure of costs etc, but thought I would mention it.
  23. Thanks Donita for posting your inspiring work. Those are beautiful candles. Such fantastic colours, reminds me of the bright clothing worn by women in a certain African country (can´t exactly remember) - maybe Senegal?? Anyway, really awesome.
  24. I recently purchased a candle that burnt like that as well. The wick was so small for this pillar that I knew it would tunnel and have a pathetic small flame. I certainly did not have to trim this wick much, the scent throw was good, but it did leave a shell like this one posted and you kinda give up burning these after a while, because the flame is small. Do you think that maybe manufacturers worry about the potential hazzard of larger wicks/large flames and just underwick so that there is no possibility of the candle flame getting out of control?
  25. Thanks so much for posting that - it makes this whole scenario a lot clearer. I have been reading the thread about Pourette and I was beginning to wonder if they in fact got their moulds from them. I think I will go ahead and start the ball rolling with the PayPal dispute.
