  1. I had the exact same burn when I tried a #1/0 square and realised it was going to tunnel and the walls never did "catch up". So then I thought I would wick up and went to a #2/0 and thought what the heck this is even worse. Looked at some charts and realised I should have used a #1. This was still too small so I have still to test a #2. I must say I like the square braid, but I was totally confused about the sizing system for this wick. Please let us know how you get on with trying a different siz. Thanks.
  2. Thanks for the replies. I have tried Peak´s Apple Blossom, which is a divine smelling scent and after looking through their list of fragrances, I can see plenty of choices to be starting with. They may not have a huge list like NG or AH/RE, but that is a good thing - will make me cut down on my addiction!! I have so many 1oz oils from RE, I think I will have to use them up making "limited addition" tarts and votives and even the odd candle for myself.:smiley2:
  3. When I first started making candles I did not know about this forum (and the list of suppliers) and happened to stumble on RE/AH and thought I would try their oils. I absolutely love them but as I live in Iceland, the shipping is just too much. I placed an order this a.m. for $167 and the UPS worldwide shipping cost is $192!!!*faint* I have pleaded with them to send my order with USPS Global Priority, but they say Company Policy is to use UPS. So I am gonna have to find another supplier! BCN said some time ago they could send me oils with USPS - what are their oils like? And Peaks are very helpful too, but I have not tried a lot of their oils. Thanks for any replies.
  4. Thanks so much for the replies - very helpul. Starting to get a few ideas for Christmas together!
  5. Has anyone ever used Dazzle Dust from RE/AH.? They have a picture of a candle covered in it and wondered if you would have to apply modge podge or some similar sticky stuff to the outside of the candle first. I guess I could e-mail them, but wondered if anyone had tried using this product. It is not glitter - it is very fine glass particles. Thanks http://www.rusticescentuals.com/dazzledust.html
  6. The orange/ivory mottle is great. Nice votives - such nice flat tops and the colour is fantastic. Well done for saving little smudge, he looks adorable.:smiley2:
  7. What a stunning candle. The green is so vibrant and I love the marble effect.
  8. Thanks Sabrina. The cold throw was amazing and a friend saw this burning and said she would never burn a candle like that, so maybe more people will not burn it - but I hate that - rather burn it and enjoy the candle glow. Sarah
  9. Hi, these are a few of the burn pics of the "cat´s eye" candle I made some time ago. This was using a 15 flat ply. Due to the shape this candle is never going to be a great burn, but I was quite happy with it. I also tried one with a 18 flat, and the gap was a bit bigger, but threatened to spill over the sides. I know some people will consider this a waste of wax due to what is left over, but I would appreciate any comments you may have. By the way, I did try this as a forever candle, but the sides cracked near the edges of the t-lite cup! Thanks.
  10. Very nice Donita, looks like its gonna work. Can´t wait to see all the other images you are going to do - I know you can´t wait to do a bear embossed candle, so good luck with all the experimenting. (I will have to go and read that thread again that you started on this type of candle because I read briefly about magnets and stamps and not sure what the hell is going on)lol.
  11. What a beautiful smooth looking pillar. Love the colour as well. I find that I "cannot think outside the box sometimes" - i.e. when I use a particular fragrance then I have to match the colour to it, so I always find it interesting to see the colour and fragrance combinations on this board.:smiley2:
  12. I have to agree with Eugenia - if they are meant just for decoration then you do not need to wick them. Having said that I think they are pretty and must have taken some time to make.
  13. Stunningly beautiful. Love the blue mottle colour. I can see you making some awesome candles and interesting layers with this mold. I also like the shape of this particular "cat´s eye" mould - mine seems to be a bit thinner and longer - if that makes sense!
  14. Those are fantastic - they look absolutely mouth droolingly (if there is such a word) scrumptious! They must smell divine. I think you make wonderful products.
  15. Those are amazing. Love the colours and well done on getting the levelling sorted out. Of course we would like to see the other colours when you have finished them.
  16. Beautiful candles - very classic looking.
  17. Hi Anjie, you are definately an "addict" - and an enthusiastic one at that. When I poured the chocolate orange rustics the other day, a friend's daughter said I smelled like Jaffa Cakes (which are her favourite biscuits) - took that as a complement! I also put a bit too much of Daystar's Cherry Meringue Bites in some candles yesterday, after taking them out of the moulds I rubbed them down with my hands and all day had this divinde smell with me wherever I went. It is unfortunate in a way that my sense of smell is directly linked to my stomach - because I get so hungry and crave chocolate when pouring candles - does anyone else?
  18. It refers to the shape - see pic below.
  19. Simply gorgeous. Love the white one. Don´t often see octagon shape pillars and it seems that Palm wax is fantastic for any shape!
  20. What a beauty - your friend is gonna love that candle. Lovely colour, very calming.
  21. Just wanted to say thanks for all the nice comments. I have done 3 two hours burns on this and it is burning ok. I don´t think I will make these too often as there is a lot of shell left and quite a waste of wax. I tried making an everlasting, by putting a glass t-light cup in the bottom, but as I have a low melt point paraffin, the edges got too hot and I got a bit of a split on one side near the cup. I cannot burn the "Serengeti Sunset" candle I posted some time ago, I am just gonna have it on display in the lounge!!
  22. The fragrance is a blend of Chocolate Layer Cake and Satsuma from AH. This is straight paraffin and stearin, uv etc. The tallest is 12.5" tall. I did not realise how addictive making these could become.:rolleyes2
  23. That sure is a beautiful pattern. The Gass Glow is a container wax - is that right? So it will be interesting to see how it burns. As you say will make extraordinary everlasting pillars. Fantastic colour by the way.
  24. This is using the cat´s eye mould again. I really love the shape.:smiley2: Pretty pleased with this result, although I did get some of the "pin holes", which I really do not like. My DH says it "adds" to the rustic look! I am test burning this one and so far it is ok - will post pics after a few more burns. Thanks for looking.
