  1. Anyone make tapered pillar candles? I poured two candles today using my new tapered square mould and an oblique triangle mould. After about 45 mins cooling, I noticed that the sides of the candle were pulling away from the mould at the top. I quickly poked relief holes in the candle to let it "breathe", this did help, but the damage was done to the edges. My question is : due to the shape of these moulds, do you have to be very vigilant about poking relief holes as soon as it begins to set up? I can usually wait between 2 - 3 hours with a 3" x 4.5" round mould, but guess this does not apply to the tapereds. Just wanted to see if anyone had any tips or suggestions about using this type of mould. Thanks
  2. I love the wavy pillars and the sphere candle especially - it looks like a planet.
  3. Hi Sabrina, those hearts look great and will be super for the wedding - will sure be a good way for other people to see your product and may even lead to more orders. Would you mind telling me what temp did you pour your overpour and was it just a straight paraffin with no stearin? Thanks.
  4. Love that easter bunny sitting in his patch surrounded by colourful eggs and his carrot - very sweet. That hot cross bun looks good enough to eat - don´t get them here in Iceland, guess I will have to make my own - lol!
  5. Congrats on the craft fair. Love the colours of your container candles.
  6. Beautiful rustics as always Judy. I love the way your swirling technique looks like wisps of mist over the candle.
  7. P.S. I should have given credit to Mozzie, who posted this a long long time ago (April 2005)! I found this post when I was looking through the archives found it, copied it, and it has always worked for me. Just thought I should mention it. I would not know half the stuff I do today if it was not for this board and the many experienced and helpful candle makers here.
  8. This is how I upload mine : After you have typed in what you want to say in your post, scroll down to section headed Additional Options. Click Manage Attachments button, then click Browse button to find where picture is stored on your computer. When file location is set, click on Upload button, wait for picture to upload then click on Close the window button, then Submit reply. When I first read this it did seem complicated, but if you follow it step by step, then maybe it will work for you. Don´t forget to resize your photos first.
  9. Thanks for the link Sabrina - definately worth a try.
  10. Love your layering technique and the candles are beautiful. Good set up for the photos as well. I think the polycarbonate moulds give a lovely shape to candles and a nice finish. My faves are the plum coloured ones. I have a lot of problems getting rustics out of my 2" aluminium moulds and have to resort to gently heating the mould with a heatgun for it to expand a bit and then give a good tug on the candle and it comes out - but too much rustic effect is left inside the mould which is a real bummer. I think Snowdrop is gorgeous - she must get very hot in Summer - does she find a cool place to lie in the garden when it gets real hot?
  11. Hi Sabrina. I really like the look of the candle and it is a great colour too - I love orange! Great photo as well. Did you find the instructions on how to make a light box on this forum? I did a search for it, but nothing came up. Thanks. Sarah
  12. I think your votives look great, very smooth on top and the layering is a nice effect. Labels and packaging nicely done too.
  13. Those are great looking pillars. I am fascinated by the palm wax and I love the colour.
  14. Those are very beautiful candles. Love the "accidental" colouring and the rustic effect is something I can only dream about achieving!
  15. Thanks, the one Peak has in their round mould section is about right, but I want taller ones.
  16. Does anyone know of a supplier where I can purchase tapered cylinder candle moulds from. Sizes say 2.5"x15" and 3"x12.5" i.e. I do not want thin tapered moulds, more chunky ones. Peaks only has a 2-3"x9.5". I also saw a canlde which was square shaped and that was tapered as well, about 1.75"x6". Thanks, any suggestions appreciated.:smiley2:
  17. Sorry to sound stupid, but I am totally confused and cannot picture this in my head. Regarding this statement, you have already taken the candle out of the mould then you insert the wick pin back in upside down?? I also use wick pins and my DH does the levelling for me, but I can see he gets a bit fed up sometimes and I would really like to do most of the levelling myself. Would you be able to post a couple of pics or PM me, any help appreciated as I would really like to give your method a go. BryCola, apologies, I don´t mean to be hijacking your thread.
  18. Hi Ian, I live in Iceland and have ordered most of my supplies from the States. I have ordered FO´s from Aroma Haven/Rustic Escentuals and think they are great. I ordered 10 2oz samples from Daystar on the 22nd January and they arrived here on the 29th!! Stacy used the Global Flat Rate option which was very reasonable - she has great customer service as well. I e-mailed Peaks a few months ago and they were very helpful, I ordered a stack of stuff and they shipped it to me USPS, which was a fraction of the UPS cost. It did take three week though, but will make sure I re-order stuff before I run out of anything. I have also ordered from Alan at Candelicious in the UK and got some stuff from Sensory Perfection. When I first started making candles I drooled for days over the Natures Garden website, then found out that they did not ship internationally. Having read this thread, I am going to try to get them to send me stuff via USPS. Good Luck with your endeavour and let us know how the NG FO´s turn out.
  19. Well I am not sure what you mean by "jacked up", but whatever the new swirling technique is, these look fantastic.:smiley2: No matter how much swirling I do, I can never get this look, but I sure am getting a lot of pin holes which are driving me crazy:sad2: , gotta keep trying though.
  20. Impossible to choose a favourite! Awesome rustics, lovely colours and your photography is beautiful. I would certainly be very tempted to purchase some of these if I saw them advertised in a brochure. Thanks for sharing.
  21. Love these colours, they almost look like pieces of wood sandwiched together. I am always so regimented when I do layers, but I love the way your layers "swirl" around the candle and the big chunks of caramel colour at the top and bottom of the pillar - really stunning.
  22. Very nice colours and interesting effect. Well done.
  23. Hi Donita, have to agree with everyone above, love this rose, it is really beautiful and delicate. Your work is a great insipiration to me and I love looking at pics of your amazing candles.
  24. Thanks for the replies and advice. Gonna start scenting both and give it a try.:smiley2:
  25. Hi everyone. I was wondering if those people who make chunk candles (pillars and votives) could advise if they scent their chunks and overpour or scent only the overpour. If you scent both, do you use the same percetage FO. I currently do not scent my chunks, but was wondering if it is better to scent both? Thanks
