  1. Two hours? Wow! I could assembly-line them, lol. Hmmmmm, assuming I spent around $7 for a skein, 2 hours labor, I wonder if they would sell for $25-$30? Ya talked me into it! Like I need another damned thing to make!
  2. Ah, thanks for the video link. Does one skein make one scarf? I clicked another link on the YouTube page and the guy doing the tute said RedHeart brand makes the scarf an extra foot, made me think one skein, one scarf. I'm always looking for something different to sell at my store. I might have to give those a try just to see how it goes. Never mind. I looked up Starbella on JoAnn's site and it says one skein equals one scarf. It's $6.99/skein, but with a 50% coupon, what a deal! What size needles do you use? The directions leave the needle size wide open.
  3. Boy, if that ain't the truth. Sure, you could sue for breach of contract, but what are your damages? Unless you've had your candles in the store and have a record of sales, you really have no damages other than what you think you might have sold. If the store previously sold someone else's candles, you would have to know what sales ran for that other person to anticipate what your sales might be. Definitely not worth pursuing legally. Yes, it hurts, and yes, it sucks. Just move on. If you mention it to another possible sales contact, they'll drop you like a hot potato, so move on and somehow convince yourself that life's too short for the scum of the earth, which both the store owner and the soaper are. Just be ready to have a good, private laugh when the soaper fails, which she will if she's pushing something she's never even made before.
  4. Oh, wow, I would love that!!! Yes, it looks hard, and it looks more crocheted than knit. I used to knit years and years ago. That's the kind of stuff I would work with were I still knitting. Beautiful!
  5. IMO, a business name is very personal. It's the kind of thing you know when it hits you. I can see coming up with maybe a half dozen ideas and asking people which name sounds the most unique, the most pleasing, the most whatever you're trying to achieve, but to ask strangers who haven't a clue what your products are like to come up with a business name just isn't working for me. What is a hobby farm?
  6. I've often said the same thing about the first person to eat an egg. What was that person thinking?
  7. I have a suspicion you all would be in a perpetual state of revulsion if you knew half of what you're putting in or on your bodies. To me, it makes no sense that you would bathe in goat's milk soap but not human breast milk. I guess none of you would want to use a wet nurse for your hungry baby. And you probably smear emu oil all over your faces and don't give it a second thought.
  8. I have always charged even amounts. I've always included tax in my pricing, rounding my pricing up to the next even dollar amount. I've never taken credit cards. Cash or checks only. I know of 3 sales I actually lost because I didn't take credit cards. Some people feel like they sell more because they take credit cards, but I don't buy that theory because people don't find out I don't take cards until they've got their candles lined up on the table and are ready to pay. Customers always seem to be able to fish around and find the money. My philosophy is that shows are hard enough without making them more difficult by lugging around heavy change and figuring out where to put it. My pricing on 8 oz masons is $8 each, 3 for $21. If someone came along and all they had was a $20, I would reduce the price to 3 for $20. I couldn't tell you the last time I had to do that. One of the stores where my shop is told me I could use his credit card machine so I agreed to add 10% to the purchase to pay his fees, and put up a sign that I took credit cards. I only had 1 customer take advantage of it and it was for a lousy $10 perfume. It wasn't worth walking her to the other store and explaining why we were doing that. After about 6 months, I took the sign down. I'm all about relaxing and having a good time. Some sales just aren't worth the hassle.
  9. Quite a few years ago I did a craft show and took a couple cases of Sex on the Beach. A very elderly lady (older than me by quite a bit) came along, saw them, giggled a bunch, said it brought back fond memories, and bought all of them. Butt Naked used to sell well for me, but not lately. I think I have a couple of wickless left and have had them sitting for several months.
  10. Patchouli can be difficult to wick. Good luck!
  11. I tried them years ago; they're not new, but there are not many places you can get them. In all applications I tested, primarily comfort blend and oils I couldn't wick with HTP or CD, they smoked like crazy. Horribly, in fact. I didn't like them at all.
  12. That's true, but I wouldn't dream of telling someone they shouldn't be in business because they don't want to do what I like. If doing an outdoor show bothers you selling at craft shows may not be the business you should get into.
  13. OMG, look at all those tiny pieces. It wears me out just thinking about it! Absolutely beautiful. My colors are reds and pinks. Feel free to put me on your next to-do list. lol Truly beautiful!
  14. It's only been gone a few months, so I'm sure there are plenty of people here who remember it. Spellbound type from AWE was pretty close. Unfortunately, they're poof, too. I honestly don't know what the real Spellbound smells like. Maybe find a supplier who offers Spellbound, get a sample, and see if it might be close enough.
  15. Surely, you jest. I did craft shows for 15 years, have never done a single outside show, before I opened a permanent store I did shows nearly every single weekend, and trust me...............................it was a good thing. I wouldn't struggle to put up a tent just to watch it blow away for love or money. Or sit in rain and/or wind, or worse. Your little bit of advice might be the worst advice I've ever seen here.
  16. My viewpoint is the opposite. Firstly, there will likely be fewer vendors at the conference, and likely no other chandlers. I'd check with the sponsors on that. Secondly, women at conferences love to spend money and outspend each other.
  17. Obviously, nobody can decide for you. That said, I wouldn't do an outside show in a million years.
  18. Absolutely money up front. Whatever you're doing, deal with ONE PERSON only. A friend of a friend? No way, no how. Honestly, I wouldn't even give it a second thought until talking with the one person in charge. You've already expended far more energy and worry than it's worth at this point.
  19. Lavender Sage from WSP is wonderful. Very strong, yet the lavender is somewhat tempered with something that's definitely not sage. I call it Wildflowers.
  20. I don't have any idea. That's good to know. I never ordered from her. Not once. Loaded my cart many times, but backed out. No reason.
  21. My favorite Lavender of all time was Tassi Lavender. Someone else took it over, and someone else has what some say is identical. Do a search for Tassi Lavender. I can't remember who bought what these days. My second favorite is what was KY's Lavender Vanilla. I think AH took over KY's oils.
  22. This thread is going to make me cry. The best, period, was AGE's Salty Mariner. I've never found another that was even on the same planet. Unfortunately, AGE is poof, long gone.
  23. If it's sinking, I would also poke relief holes before the 2nd pour.
  24. I've used HTP and CD wicks from Candlewic custom wick builder for years, and buy only when they have their 1/2 price sale. I have always used standard coating and have never had a wick flop over in my testing. I've never crimped my own.My eyes aren't that good and my hands aren't that steady. In other words, not worth the time or potential savings.
