  1. That's understandable, it was a scary situation I hope to never be in again. I'm so thankful no one was hurt and that damage was mostly just in her apartment.
  2. Hi @Lynnann81. If it was me, and I've had this happen, just blow them out, take a skewer, skinny screw driver or something like that that will go all the way to the bottom of the candle and punch several holes all around the wicks. Take a heat gun gently to the tops to melt more wax to fill in the holes. Let them cool and harden completely and then continue your wick testing.
  3. I forgot to mention, a few years ago when we were living in an apartment in FL, our downstairs neighbor a few doors over burned her darn apartment almost down with a candle left alone. She was a young girl, evidently not very cautious, she had a candle burning and left it in the care of her cat and went to the store. 🤪 Before she got back home her apartment was still on fire and she was screaming about her cat. Luckily one of the neighbors knew she had a cat and saved it. By the time the fire department arrived there was a ton of damage and all the rest of us had grabbed our valuables and evacuated. 🔥 🚒 Needless to say, no one, especially the landlord was happy with her and her stupidity and she was evicted. It was reported that the cat had knocked the candle over. 🐈🐱 Maybe her candle didn't include a care card? 😝
  4. Yes, including the care and warning info on your product listings is nice. I can see if you are including a Thank You note with contact info, etc. then I guess you may as well include the care and warning info. Oh yes, the one where someone would actually, intentionally leave home after lighting a candle blows my mind. 🤯 Wonder if those same people leave their house after lighting their fireplace? 🤪
  5. That's a great point and I never looked for a warning label on a candle or even cared until I started making candles.
  6. Oh yes, a warning info card with tapers makes sense. Some people will do such stupid things and then blame someone else or wonder why bad things happen to them. 😄
  7. Nice looking candles @Ken and welcome to Craft Server. ☺️👍 There's a lot of great candle making info on this forum, happy searching.
  8. I noticed there is "The Jar Store" in China and "Jar Store" in OH.
  9. I don't have experience with jars that tall but I just happened to be looking at that type of jar today thinking about it. I'm curious about your experiment.
  10. Hello. Curious about the term "Advanced Fragrance Technology®". I've searched on this topic but not sure I found the same thing. Maybe it involves fragrance encapsulation? I don't know. Am I just missing it or is this nonsense and made up marketing jargon? I will say that CandleBerry has done a great job with the branding and packaging of their new luxury candle line called UnEarthed candles. Even on their website they don't clearly explain it. https://www.unearthedcandles.com/pages/advanced-fragrance-technology® They say things like: "taking the craft of fragrance development to higher and higher levels." So what does it mean to go to "higher and higher levels"? " We formulate and intensify fragrance to it's most pure potential for candles. We then combine it with some of nature's best ingredients, together with ultimate craftsmanship to bring you what we consider to be the finest candles in the world." So what does it mean to "intensify fragrance to it's most pure potential"? Does it just mean that it's concentrated? "UnEearthed® fragrances are developed using Advanced Fragrance Technology® and contain the very best ingredients possible." So what does this mean? Pretty much everybody tries to use the best ingredients possible. It all sounds great but does it have any substance? Maybe I'm behind in candle making technology. What does anyone have to share on this topic?
  11. Exactly, Etsy and Shopify are not alike. Like you said Shopify is not a marketplace but a website host with lots of bells and whistles I guess. I've never really looked into Shopify. For me, I don't want anything to do with Facebook or Instagram and will seek other alternatives. I hate dealing with Amazon but they also have built-in traffic that is ready to make purchases. I hate monopolies. 😒
  12. Oh boy, I hate this subject. I always cringe when I see any type of artist/crafter selling their goods for a lot less than they are worth. It's really sad to go to all that trouble and then devalue your own work and miss out on deserved profits. I just don't get it.
  13. This is an interesting post.
  14. Yes, that sounds real good. Next time I make some test candles I'm going to experiment with lower FO %s, I've been getting carried away and I'm afraid I'm just wasting it. And with testing FO %s it seems more reliable or noticeable if you start low and go high instead of the other way around.

    Wax Drops

I guess some people like mica on the outside and it does look pretty but I agree with you, I don't like to deal with messy stuff If I don't have to, LOL. I do really like it mixed in the wax. Her melts and packaging are pretty.
  16. Hi April. I've never used IGI 6006 wax but sounds like you have been making good progress with the wick testing which is the worst part of candle making. Yes, double wicks or even single wicks can cause too much heat as the candle melts further down in the jar. You may be onto something with the ECO 2s or possibly another wick in that similar size. As I have learned on here from others, especially from @TallTayl, you shouldn't get hung up on your candles reaching a complete melt pool (melted wax from side to side) on the 1st, 2nd or even possibly the 3rd burn. Sometimes the 4th or 5th burn will achieve a full melt pool without over heating then or later as the candle melts down. Of course this doesn't mean that you want a candle that is tunneling terribly. A container with a thin wax ring can be fine and end up melting after a few more burns. It's a balancing act between the heat build up and the wick size. It's also a matter of taste or your preference of how you want your candle to look and perform or even what your customers want in performance. What you consider a great burning candle may not be what I consider a great burning candle. We all probably have our own slightly different opinions on that and I don't think a "perfect" candle exists, close, but not perfect. Hope this helps and will give you a new perspective on your wick testing. 😉

    Wax Drops

I know, I thought the same thing. Hopefully she didn't use protective gear only because she was making a video. She could have put the mica and wax drops in a plastic container with lid or baggie and gently shook it up.

    Wax Drops

Yes, I certainly agree and I don't have that much patience, LOL. Making wax drops is not for me, I was simply curious. Maybe the people that want to make them will find that video helpful. 🤷‍♀️

    Wax Drops

Hey, I just came across this video where she does the same thing you are talking about, using a scraper, and it does look quick and easy. I thought of this post so I thought I'd share it. ☺️
