  1. You can say that again. Their website is so cluttered and hard to navigate. They need some help in that area, for sure.
  2. I think I agree with your husband on the Forever Yours idea. It's just one of my crazy ways of thinking about things, but what you're selling isn't going to last forever. Go with the eco idea. I don't have anything specific to offer to you, but something may pop up in my head and I'll pass it on to you. Actually, I do have something to suggest. Make your company name the same as your website address. ForeverYoursCandles.com, just like Amazon.com, eBay.com. Those names have become household words. Even if you have no immediate plans for a website, when you come up with your name, go online to some site like GoDaddy.com and buy those domain names fast! Don't wait until "tomorrow" to do that. Make sure you renew them each year. They will be your property should you decide to get a website store going. It's cheap insurance. I think it runs around $15.00 to $20.00 per year per domain name.
  3. Thank you 100 times and then some.
  4. I'm not sure I understand. It's been long time since I've experienced Chloe' but I'm sure I would recognize it right away. If what you've posted here is the description of the Chloe' profile, you've piqued my interest.
  5. I don't think I've visited this part of the forum yet, so hello! I'm trying to start making my own fragrances to scent my candles. I have an idea and for one of it's components, I need something that is really close to the women's perfume Chloe'. I've seen some of these "types" for sale by the candle supply companies. Does anyone have any idea where I might looking for this?
  6. Maybe you could add lip balm in tubes or tins. I carry it my pocket year round.
  7. First, I agree with TallTayl. Spend some time to carefully consider which items to take. You could take SOME candles that you can afford to lose if it got really hot and sell them as 'Clearance'? Maybe you could place candle accessories along side the candles as add-on sales? Perhaps candle holders, votive glasses, pillar plates. Things like that. As we used to say in retail. If it's raining, sell them umbrellas.
  8. The shipping on glassware seems to be the real killer. To add injury to insult, you also have the breakage factor there. You lose the shipping war on two fronts. I'm starting to see my % of freight creeping upward. Q
  9. I'd like to find one too. I use the Avery software with an inkjet printer to make all my labels. When I looked at what Avery had to offer in a burst, they were all designated for laser only, which you have. The selection was limited. I don't remember if they had a clear one or not, but you can check their site. In fact, I'll take a look myself and report back.
  10. The pictures of the butterflies, etc. are very close to what I'm looking for and these seem to be formulated to stick to candles.
  11. Thanks, I'd really like to see those pictures if you get a chance.
  12. Has anyone here tried using Rub On Templates to decorate the outside of a paraffin candle? Will they stick and stay? If not, is there an alternative? I asked two of the sellers on eBay. One responded that they WOULD NOT stick to wax. I haven't gotten an answer from the 2nd seller. Over on Amazon, I started a little discussion. Some said no, others answered maybe. I'm starting to think it won't work because paraffin is an oil/petroleum based product.
  13. Thanks, good to know my stuff is going in the right direction.
  14. Thanks. Glad to hear that I'm somewhat in line.
  15. I started making candles this past summer of 2017. I started to keep financial records in January. Year to date (starting Jan. 1) I figure my percentage of freight costs is about 12% of the total I've spent. The total includes everything, items that had freight charges, items that had free shipping or that I bought at retail stores. 12% seems a little high to me. Is it?
  16. Thanks Flicker. Very interesting. I'm going to print off this whole topic and put it in my notebook.
  17. Both of you answered some questions that I was unsure of regarding temp of re-pour and when to do it. I wasn't sure about whether or not to make the re-pour hotter or cooler. Now I know. I was also unsure of what to do when the first pour has cooled and pulled away from the walls of the mold. Many times I've done the 2nd pour and when I take them out of the mold there is a little rim of wax around the bottom. It's impossible to repair.
  18. Is there a general rule as to what the interior temperature of a paraffin candle should be when you do your second pour? I use a slender meat thermometer when I start to make my first probe.
  19. I just checked it out. Nice selection. I bookmarked that one.
  20. I'm wrestling the same problem now. I've thought about having small pillars for each one, so the customer can use them like testers at the cosmetic counter in the department stores. I'm going to use a combination of cellophane bags, boxes, and those mylar stand up ziplock pouches depending on the candle. That's the plan anyway. But you're right, there will always be the person that just has to open the carton.
  21. Automatically? I respectfully disagree with you. On to other topics.
  22. Thanks for sharing the picture. That gives me some idea about what to do at my first show. I really like those risers on the back of the table. Q
  23. What do the numbers mean in zinc cored wick specs? Example 44-24-18.
