  1. This is what I buy and free shipping works out to be $3.95 a pound...very clean and mixes instantly. http://www.essentialdepot.com/product/NAOH-10-FOOD_GRADE.html
  2. They look wonderful, JC! Love the color combo.
  3. I BTW, if they ever run short (the Holidays) BakeRite is identical...been swapping back and forth for years.
  4. Why is it that errors only appear AFTER we hit the send button? I thank my stars that we have an edit button here! BTW, one of my 2 main recipes are almost identical to the one you posted! I love Walmarts GVS!!!!
  5. BTW, Armour is the only brand Lard I use...always fresh and bars come out a pale ivory white or you can use a little Titanium Dioxide (TD) for an even whiter bar.
  6. This makes a gentle, creamy and economical family soap. This is for 32 oz oils, which fits most single silicone loaf mold. I used soapcalc for my calculations. 91 grms Castor (10%) 91 grms Shea butter (10%) 136 grm Coconut oil (15%) 590 grm Armour brand Lard 124 grm Lye (5%) 248 grm Water (2:1) 2 level TBSP white sugar added to the water and dissolved BEFORE adding the Lye. Fragrance is a personal preference, but I generally use 1 TBSP tea tree oil per pound of oil, so 2 TBSP for this recipe.
  7. This is how I make mine, too. I use "sugar baby" from MMS and assorted flavors, except if I use mint ESSENTIAL oil straight oob. Then I will cut that in half. If I use a mint "flavor oil" I would still use 1/2 tsp...my favorite is banana.
  8. No problem my dear...don't fret...if you change your mind, just let me know and I'll be happy to help you. BTW, you can substitute any cp soap recipe, just so long as it is gentle on the skin...I like to keep the coconut oil around 15%.
  9. sorry, my bad! I have no clue yet how to shrink my photos. (*sigh!*)
  10. There is no such thing as a dumb question! I'll be happy to convert the recipe for you...how many ounces of oils do you use in your mold? And yes, lard is different than Crisco...lard makes Uber-creamy, gentle soaps...you'll really like this recipe...no drama. Get your lard at the grocer store...I use Armour brand and it's really cheap!
  11. Awwww, bless your heart! I really prefer Cierra Candle's much more than WSP...I have left unwrapped bars for months on my soap racks and they never sweat, crack, warp or shrink. IMHO i believe this is a superior product that behaves like CP soap with abundant lather, even in hard water. Now with lower glycerine, the soap is not as moisturizing as the high glycerine soaps...My favorite way to use this is to make a batch of unscented lard soap, give it 3-4 week cure, then I grate it and put it in the crockpot on low, stirring occasionally for about 1/2 hour until M&P fully melted, then pour into mold...the cp soap will not completely melt, so your soap will have a rustic texture, which I find very appealing. CP soap recipe: 10% castor 10% shea butter 15% coconut oil 65% lard 7% Superfat
  12. Welcome, Ken! And thank you for your service. There's a very nice group of soapers & chandlers here...they're very supportive and creative.
  13. I use this soap base in several applications... 1) for touchy fragrances that freak out or wither from lye 2) For lye batches that fragrance fades out...I just weigh out 16 oz M&P extra hard WHITE base and 16 oz grated soap, then throw it all into a small crockpot and place on low...the soap shreds halfway melt into the M&P giving it almost a HP texture..I just re-scent and color. 3) I save my most colorful trimmings and shreds in baggies, then melt white Extra Hard White base, pour 1/4 full into a loaf mold, add shreds, pour more base...then shreds, etc. Kinda like soap lasagne. BTW, I haven't tried Vermon M&P...I have really limited use for M&P, I hate waste and when added to regular soap, it becomes a really nice soap for the home and friends...waste not, want not.
  14. If I might suggest Cierra Candle and soap? I save a lot by buying 16 1-lb blocks as they will ship in medium flat rate box...about $13 bucks? These people bend over backwards with their customer service! I buy the extra hard and mix in grated soap shreds. http://www.cierracandles.com/Soap-Making-Supplies.html
  15. Just in case...the Frasier Fir is also exceptional in soap...no drama and the fragrance sticks forever...I like it best after a 4-6 week cure...just like spaghetti sauce, it always tastes better the next day. I use a scant .75 FLUID OZ (PPO).
  16. Nuture Soap has a bunch of discontinued and hard to find Lush dupes.
  17. I was just noodling around the Net and stumbled onto these Maxi-lites thru Amazon...are these the ones? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Polycarbonate-Maxi-Lite-Tealight-Cups/dp/B00MB6XCHY
  18. If any of you make soap, WSP's Frasier Fir is terrific in soap @ .75 oz ppo...smells exactly like Thyme's soap...no A or D and no drama soaping. And don't forget the room spray! Essentials by Catalina has professional cologne base that doubles as a body spray or air freshener.
  19. Beautiful Job! You do very nice work and I'm really loving on the lavender one, especially.
  20. I love their colors, and I see now that they have a really RED red! I get solid, saturated bars when I use 3/4 to 1 tsp per pound of oil...Now I add 1/4 tsp of water soluble Titanium Dioxide to the water, too, which seems to make the colors "pop" more.
  21. Just a little heads-up on the sale for those of us who aren't on the email list...not sure when it ends, but this is a great time to stock up! https://nurturesoap.com/collections/soap-colorants
  22. So glad to hear that many of you are putting all those dusty little bottles to good use! BTW, I use a lot of 16 and 32 oz glass bottles of apple cider vinegar for laundry, cleaning, etc...Rinse the bottles & caps and use them to put you blends in.
  23. I'm in Blount County, just south of Guntersville...out in the country. Being a truck driver, I'm gone 4-6 weeks at a time, so I've never joined any organizations...maybe when I get out of the truck and start doing this again full time.
