  1. I would try the zincs. There is no indication that zincs are a concern. Of course there is always a risk later on that is found to be untrue. But that risks exists in everything, our oils, our waxes. (Even coy recently has been critiziced and is partly why its being reformulated). You will never know for sure. All you can do is go with what we know now. And, no Ive never had a customer complain about a zinc wire in the wick. I, have always worried about it myself and worried what customers think, but have never once been asked. Take that information how you want. But, you WILL have good throw with zincs and they burn cooler which is also nice. Mushrooms are the only downfall IMO. But at least customers will trim those off before relighting more often then they will trim and Eco that appears like it doesn't need to be trimmed. Then it smokes like a freight train when they relight it. What jars are you using?
  2. Yes, good advise. If still getting poor throw, you could argue its the FO, the wax, or the combination of the two. If its better when in a wax melter, its probably your wick or your process.
  3. Yes, I dont like the soot from either 4630 or 4627. It still exists with 6006 but not as bad. Yes, Eco does have a smoke/soot problem when relit. And you are correct that customers will not trim them often, especially since they curl and dont always look like they need trimmed. I prefer htp over Eco. However, you dind't mention either CD or zinc. CD works well but can also get sooty sometimes. Zinc is perfect in the wax and best HT in my opinion over all. But more mushrooming. Fortunately, mushrooms make it more obvious to customers to trim than do other wicks. Id give both CD and zinc a shot.
  4. Sounds like you are doing everything right. Maybe wick choice? There are several that work ok in both that waxes, but could be causing your issues. Or maybe you are just no sensitive to smells. Maybe your scents are stronger than you think?
  5. You said most of your oils are from CS and you're having issues? CS is a great supplier. I have many from them, along with NG, AZ, etc. If you are having lots of issues with throw from these main suppliers, Id double check you are picking higher rated oils as well as double check your process and ensure you are keeping a keen eye on your temps during mixing and pouring, etc. Even the slightest adjustments sometimes can make a big difference. I see you are using 4630 and 6006. 6006 has been a little spotty lately because its a % of soy which has been inconsistent lately. 4630 usually is a great thrower but I dont like to use it by itself. Too sooty/smokey for me. Blending the two works well though. What wicks are you using?
  6. NGI pulled the plug on their Ecosoys because (contrary to popular belief) they were acting more responsibly than Golden Brands, etc who keep selling their garbage when we ALL have witnessed and experienced its degradation recently. Soy waxes have become awful and I think they they are ALL suffering from it. Ecosoya pulled out abruptly to stop selling it and work on the reformulated blends. I'm not saying they will be great or that you should love NGI/Ecosoya... but I definitely dont trust GB anymore than I would NGI.
  7. I think you are looking at this the wrong way. If there is less competition there its much easier for you to stand out than it is in the U.S. They dont have to be luxory candles to do well. And I agree with Flicker. I have many "cheap" scents that will blow you away. It depends on the FO, wax, process, etc.
  8. Oh thats nice. If I had the capital... Id just start my own candle supply business here in the midwest.... all of us in the area sure know we could use one around here!
  9. Love her math too... somehow $1100 is more than double 599. Regardless, pretty bad profit margin. Ha
  10. Lol....i saw this years ago, even worse when i see it now. The "reporter" is awful. Talks way top much yet simultaneously unableto find the words half the time. Oh, and its so "innovative". Lol
  11. Thats odd. Ive noticed larger wicks being needed, not smaller. By the what does adding the coconut oil do for ya
  12. Which clarus? The one most like 6006 (supposedly)? If so, Id start with htp 73 in the square mason and adjust from there. Permier, Id start with 745
  13. I did on one batch... or it seemed that way to me. Since then, not really. Although havign a bit of soy in it makes me nervous. I have zero trust in anything soy right now. Lol
  14. I tried to like RRD. I even made a post a while back asking why we all didn't talk about them more (to try and spark more interest and testing). But after all my test, I find that mushroom and soot too much. Ill test more with CD as i always do... but so far, I like Zinc, htp, and even premier and lx better.
  15. Oh yah, straight soy... I'm not sure. My issue with CD... and not sure if other see this too.. but I just feel like they soot too much, more than many others. And for a wick that is supposedly self trimming somewhat (and it curls), it sure seems like it still develops mushrooms pretty quick for a wick that isn't supposed to. but again, that has been my experience in 6006 and parrafins as well
  16. And I differ a bit here... i prefer HTP over CD nearly every time. CD soots too much for me compared to HTP. I feel they are really similar, but htp just works a lot better for me.
  17. Probably referring to Wicks Unlimited... would be my guess
  18. Yes, blending the two means you are using a good amount of soy and you will want to cure longer than parrafin or straight 6006 IMO. Id give it a week
  19. I do the same thing because i have candles that sit in shops. If you dont use UV , you will start seeing the effects. Trappeur... do you notice any differences in wicking when you add UV?
  20. Yah its unfortunate.... because in my opinion (and I think a general consensus by majority) is that their soy waxes were better than the others. It is what it is I guess. Thanks for sharing that extra info.
  21. From where? I contacted NGI and suppliers and was told it was pushed back to August.
  22. ok thats good. Glad CS wasn't only one willing to at least try and help. Lol. Lets all just hope things turn around
  23. To provide a little clarification.... CandleScience told me they hadn't received any complaints about the lot numbers I mentioned. After I posted a comment, then a couple more complaints came in I believe. Candle Science did apologize and is sending me a free replacement case and contacting IGI as well. So far, they have been the ONLY ones I feel who have done anything positive. Know what I mean? Not saying that cant do more... but I think the issue right now is the manufactures and not wanting to fess up that there are major issues with soy right now which also affects blends that include soy. But I totally agree.... THEY need to figure it out for THEIR customers. Simple as that. They all do.
  24. With all the issues going on right now, I am probably cutting back on much blending of waxes. I want to keep it more simple.. less variables until things improve again. Its too hard to constantly be battling issues with so many variables. The less going on, the easier it is to find a problem and find an alternative ya know.
