  1. Well, I popped my post right in here, then realized I was in the natural wax forum...:rolleyes2 My experience has been with IGI4794 - paraffin - using the Premier 700's and LX10's. We are just experimenting with the soy and have only burned a few votives....with lots of tunneling.....so we obviously have to wick WAAYYY up!! LOL
  2. At the craft shows, I see anywhere from 50 cents to $1.50 each....regular stores $1.00 to $1.75. I am trying to figure out what my cost is and I have come up with the figure of .37 - and that is buying the wax in bulk and using the average price of Peak's scents...so I guess I will be charging $1.00, and maybe $5.50 for 1/2 dozen...not sure yet.
  3. I am wondering the same thing....but I have the opposite problem....mine do well at the beginning, then get very tiny and almost look like they are going to drown, then pick back up again. I tried wicking up with the same type wick, but got soot on the votive holder. Now, these burn fine in a holder that is larger than the votive and allows it to spread out, but I feel they should burn good in a tight fitting votive holder - that should be my goal. So I will be interested in hearing how the "perfect votive" should burn...
  4. If you already have the Premier 700's, try the 720. Otherwise, the suggestion of LX10 or 12's is a good one.
  5. Good for you!! I haven't gotten brave enough to try yet....
  6. Thanks....I was not sure if the HTP's would burn a bit better or not, but I do like the LX's for many things, so I will test it with the LX14 tonight.
  7. I am "on the fence" about these....I definitely want a safe candle, but with the 12 oz apothecary's, the jars are so shallow, I am afraid people will think they are not getting their money's worth if they see so much wax on the bottom of the jar. Of course, safety first....which is why I SHOULD opt for the higher collar and be done with it!! Wow, I'm alot of help, aren't I?
  8. I tried wicking with an LX12, and it tunneled. Any suggestions for what I should try next? I have some LX's, HTP's and Premier 700's. Since I made these with the samples that were sent out, I only have one votive left to try...I don't work with soy much, but I thought I read they needed to be wicked higher than the paraffin. Thanks for any help you can give me! Jane
  9. OMG - How exciting!!!! My heart would be flip-flopping all over the place!
  10. Sorry, I didn't get my nap today - which ones are you referring to, CandleCourture?
  11. Yes, you do. We have had one container work fantastic with a wick and FO, just to make six more containers with different FO that don't work. Frustrating, yes....but we are getting closer and closer...LOL
  12. mmmm, let me know how that Dreamsicle smells....I have bought that scent from two different suppliers and have not had good luck with hot throw. Love the pillars...they are beautiful!
  13. Good Grief!!! And I thought I was a novice.....
  14. I think I may have read this before, htaylorrn, and I contacted Lonestar and they told me that as far as they were concerned, I had received what I ordered.... But, like I said before, we have had a tough time getting this wicked so it doesn't smoke, so I wasn't too concerned. Just adds to the confusion...
  15. I did notice our new shipment was whiter, but we have had no luck in wicking this wax (the old or "new"), so I can't really tell you if there is a difference......but we are still working on it. Let me know how you make out...
  16. That would be a good idea BUT I was melting my very first soy tart yesterday - enjoying the wonderful scent and thinking "this is the life....no wick to worry about, no soot, no shooting "torch" flames....just lovely scent - then I glanced at it....IT WAS SMOKING....what the heck is that?!?!?!? I tell ya', this little hobby is turning into a nightmare!!! LOL
  17. It is definitely a problem. I noticed a fuel smell with a candle also scented in mulberry....my friend did not smell it at all! Here we are trying to distinquish which scents are going to "work" for us and which to knock out of the running, and we don't even "smell" them the same....LOL....
  18. We had that problem when we were testing our 12 oz apoth, 4630 (Harmony) double wicking with the 700's. We had to cut the wicks way down (1/4") or they would be smoking and dancing all over the place. After the second or third burn, again cutting the wicks way down, they seemed to burn nicely. The problem is, tho, I just know the customers are not going to cut them way down, so we stopped testing with them...for now. We are suppose to have 600's on the way (more geared toward the para rather than soy). Have they continued to cause soot after the second and third burns?
  19. I've never heard that saying before...thanks for making me smile!
  20. I have searched around the previous posts, but I have not seen where anyone has been able to wick these. Sorry.
  21. Would the rub-ons work on the muslin bags that I use for air freshners? I am already making stencils so I can use fabric paint to brighten them up, but I thought I could use the rub ons to put our business name on the back of them.
  22. Update from my previous post: We are in the stages of testing the LX16's with the 4630. The four jars we are doing are "behaving" so far. My Peaks Cinnamon is doing great. I am a little concerned about the small flames (double wicked 12 oz apoth) as it is nearing the end of the test, but there is virtually no soot on the jar. This is a first for me! We had soot with the LX18's, so wicking up is not an option. I will see how the other ones do before I decide if these are the "right" ones.
  23. OMG - I AM IN LOVE!!!! This is my first time working with a soy votive wax and I have got to say it was a very positive experience! Thank you, Jason, for sending me the sample. My notes are at the "shop" (my friend's basement... ) so I will go by my memory....very scary..... I did two votives and a partial tart...heated 5 oz wax to about 180-185, poured into warmed glass pour pot, added some leftover GL Energizer FO (approx 3/8 oz) and two drops blue dye, poured at 155 into cold molds. Except for a ring around the wick on one of them, these babies are smooth and BEAUTIFUL - no frosting, no cracking - and they popped right out of the molds. The tart is perfect, and the cold throw is wonderful. I am going to let them cure for a few days. I will let you know how they burn.
