  1. Thanks, Marj. I checked out the site above, but there is a $250 minimum for ordering. If you happen to see them at the dollar store, let me know. We won't be doing shows anytime soon (back to testing some things before we try to sell), so I don't know why I think I NEED them right now! Just got excited when you said you saw them...
  2. We have a jar warmer. We use that to melt them down, pour it into a foil lined bowl, then take paper towels and wipe them out. We double wick, so I grab one wick and get it off, then use it to scrape of the other one, scrape the "wick sticker stuff" off the bottom and use a dish scrubby to finish the cleaning. HTH
  3. OMG - you're not teasing me, are you?!?!?!? I would do ALMOST anything to find those darn lighters again!!! LOL I would really, really appreciate it if you would check that out for me. (Hey, I just noticed you are from Flagstaff...my nephew is in college at Flagstaff and my sisters and father live in Phoenix!! Hard to believe they were all born in NY - traitors!! They love Arizona!)
  4. I found an 8" lighter at a 99 Cent Store while on vacation in Arizona - shaped and colored like a match - and thought they would be a great hit to sell with our candles. I bought two dozen and had them mailed back to New York. We sold them for $2.00-$3.00 each and people loved them. When I went replenish my stock, that store had none so I started looking around. They were selling them on Ebay for $8.00 and UP!!! I looked for awhile, got disgusted with the whole thing and gave up. Good Luck....and if I find them again (which now I have to start looking because you reminded how much I liked them!!! LOL), I will let you know.
  5. I have not ventured into pillars yet. Yours are AWESOME!
  6. I love your site! Your soaps look great!
  7. I use 4630, which I have purchased from Candles and Supplies, Lonestar and Peaks. I recently wanted to order from Bittercreek, and they carry 1945, which the last time I ordered the 4630 from another company, it was listed as 4630/1945. When I received it, it does look "whiter" but I am hoping it really is the same. Any comments or experience with this?
  8. Just received an email from USPS - Brenda has sent my sample!! WOOHOO! Don't give up - I signed up quite awhile ago, but due to heavy demand and the popularity of this product - along with some unforseen problems - the sample shipments have been delayed....but they are coming!
  9. So far, my favorites have been Fruit Slices and Mac Apple. For some reason, I am not getting a great hot throw from their Cinnamon. I have only tried it in votives....will see how it does in a jar.
  10. Hmmm, the wax we have been having discoloration problems with was also from Lonestar.....:undecided
  11. For me, it is only happening after burning - so burning too hot could be the answer. Thanks!
  12. I am a newbie, but this is the wax we decided to go with. We have tried the HTP's and LX's....no luck. We recently started trying the Premier 700's. Other than the fact that we have to cut the wicks way back or they smoke (this is a double wicked 12 oz apothecary), they are doing beautifully. The testers we have going are almost out, and except for a "touch" of black on the side of one jar, there have been no smoking issues. The 700's are suppose to be for natural waxes, so maybe the 600's should be our next step. (We were sent the 700's in error...but free is free! ) If you haven't already requested a sample pack from http://www.wicknclip.com/ , that might be the answer....I sure hope so, because we have spent some time with this and I don't want to throw in the towel yet!! :undecided
  13. Had another one discolor on me yesterday......it almost looks like a layered candle. Does anyone have any idea is this is from the wax, FO or wicks?
  14. Oh, I definitely want to chime in here....I feel very lucky to have found this board. The people here are knowledgeable and helpful...what more could you ask for? (except all their secrets... ) I thank you all! Being a newbie, I learn from the experts and the other newbies....everyone's experience helps us learn!
  15. They sent me the 700's rather than the 600's (I use para mostly) and we have been very impressed with the clean burn. The only problem we are having is when we first light the double wicked apothecary's, cutting the wick back to 1/4", the flame is very large and we get smoke. When we blew them out, trimmed them WAY BACK (probably more like 1/8"), they burned like a charm...and have continued to do so. We are going to try to wick down....and I really cannot see our customers cutting the wicks back that far, so we are very much still in the testing phase of these... I have emailed them to ask if this is normal - that they need to be cut back so far. Have you noticed that at all? Maybe I should try the 600's and see if I have better luck and save these for the soy candles.....
  16. HEY! Apparently I am an expert at making "SMOKIN' CANDLES"....maybe I have found my calling!! My luck, my citronella candles would not smoke at all.....
  17. I am going to have to take another look at the 8 oz metro I received - I thought it looked just like the 12 oz! The "mini-metro" 3 oz is just adorable! I need to check the prices also...not sure how cost-effective they will be.
  18. Ohhh, that is JUST what I wanted to hear!!! LOL I just hate messing around with those relief holes if I don't need to!! I will test it out and see how it goes....THANKS!
  19. Top and Dixie - Thanks for your help! Our subsequent burns have shown none of the issues that we encountered on the first burn....no soot and nice size flame....but we don't want that initial mess when someone first lights our candle! We did not do a second pour on these, so there was wax on the wick after the wax had shrunk back during cooling. Could this have been part of the problem? Is it imperative that you do relief holes if you choose to do a second pour? Thanks again for your help! As always, I really appreciate you taking the time to help the "new kids on the block"!!
  20. We wicked three 12 oz apothecary jars with 4630, Peak's Fruit Slices 1 oz pp, and double-wicked several different Premier 700 wicks that were recommended for that size jar. We trimmed our wicks to 1/4". When we lit each one, the flames were shooting up, dancing around and smoking. We blew them out, trimmed back even further (probably 1/8"), lit them again and they burned beautifully for the next two hours. My "theory" is that we put the wicks too close together..they probably are about 1" apart from each other. I believe the jars diameter is 4". Has anyone found that the Premiers have to be trimmed back more than the average 1/4"? At this point, we are not seeing a difference in the burn with the different size wicks...but I am hoping that will come after several more hours of burning. Or maybe they just started that way because they were so close together? Any other Premier 700 testers out there ?
  21. I just made votives with the Peak's cucumber melon.....have not burned one yet but they smell WONDERFUL just sitting on the dining room table!
  22. I tried orange with a "hint" of ivory to lighten it.........ended up with a beautiful PUMPKIN color...not quite was I was going for......
