  1. Thanks CandleFreak and candlebean for the advice....definitely going to try this next time around....
  2. So rather than trying to heat the tab and wick, I am heating the bottom of the votive itself to get a little melt, then pushing the tab? And I learned the hard way not to use my fingers....
  3. I am having a hard time getting my cotton wicks to stay in place on the votives.....so when I take a warning label off, it pulls the wick out! If I try to heat the tab/bottom of wick too much, it burns apart. Obviously, I am not a pro at this...any suggestions? I had decided to bag them and put a label on the bag, but I guess that is not a very good solution.
  4. Thanks Dustpuuppy and LynnS for the information. When I was looking up craft shows in my area, I saw "juried yes/no" and had no idea what it meant. Still learning lots! Thanks again! Jane
  5. Thanks for your input! Maybe I will stay with Peak's right now....just to help me keep the records straight for testing, etc. We have been trying to figure out how to bring the cost of the votives we sell down....it is tempting to order from Candlescience because of that reason...
  6. Oh, no! As a newbie, I have been reading this board and decided Peak Candle Supplies was the way to go for fragrances (I can ALMOST smell the McInstosh Apple that everyone was raving about!) But I just checked out the prices at Candlescience, and I am back to the drawing board!! Decisions, decisions......
  7. My sister has lived in Italy for at least 15 years and loves it there. It is so funny to talk to her now, tho, because she "forgets" the english word for something because now she speaks only italian. I think you do an EXCELLENT job! and I promise not to buy Yankee...LOL Jane
  8. So for each fragrance, it could mean a different wax and/or wick?
  9. We have made votives and jars. Her sister has been making them for awhile, and she recommended the wax that we use (from Candles and Supplies). She also told us what type of wick she liked, but we were not happy with the zinc so we switched to the cotton wicks for votives and German coreless for the jars. Are you thinking we have not done enough testing, etc.? If so, after reading this board (which I only found five days ago), I agree! We need to learn so much...this is much more involved than we ever thought! I thought if we found a wax we liked and a wick that burned well, we were set. Now I find that depending on what fragrance, etc you use, it could change everything! How do you keep up with it all?!?!?!:undecided
  10. Kimberly....pm'd you! Let me know if you didn't receive it! Thanks!!
  11. Have I got alot to learn!!! I thought that if they had room, and you were willing to pay their fee, you were in! This sounds much harder than I ever thought!! CONGRATULATIONS!!
  12. Kimberly....I pm'd you....Thanks! Jane
  13. My friend and I were just discussing this today. We have only been doing this for about 6 months and are trying to decide if we should start this now, or wait to see how the business goes. Does everyone here that does craft shows have a tax id's and insurance (New York State)? I think we need to talk to an accountant.....any advice?
  14. I am new to all this, so I have some questions. I have tried the glue dots and have had them float to the top after the pour :undecided I have no clue what the silicone is you are talking about...but I was told you have to heat the jars before a pour, so do you wick them, wait awhile, heat the jars then pour? I have been heating the jars in the oven. Thanks for any help you can give me.
  15. I am a newbie and I am just amazed by this message board! My friend and I have just started making candles and selling them at craft fairs. We have so many questions...and in the last few days I have found the answers right here! Thank you so much for all your help - hope someday I will be knowledgeable enough to be helpful to someone else.
