  1. JUST BE CAREFUL! If they are anything like mine, they will "slice" you up......ask me how I know
  2. I did a search and I "think" this is the website they are referring to....www.latherworks.com.
  3. LOL - there goes the coffee all over the 'puter..... I have never made these so I can't be of any help, but I am interested in knowing what the problem turned out to be....keep us updated! Good Luck!
  4. MMMMMMM, all of those scents sound wonderful. I have samples of JS orange clove and apple cider. I LOVE dreamsicle, but have not found one that works well in wax. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  5. My mother-in-law did the same thing....burned it in a saucer and then complained that it spread out all over and went out too soon! I had to explain to her that that was why I had given her a VOTIVE HOLDER with it..... I used to put votives on anything myself (before my candle making days....), sometimes they would burn like a pillar and sometimes they would go all over the place.....but at least I could figure out myself that that brand of votive needed to be in a regular holder. Some days it doesn't seem like it's worth the risk to sell candles....kind of scary what people do with them...:undecided
  6. Our jars are going to a full melt when only halfway burned (it is a 10 oz apothecary, so it is not that deep to begin with). One jar was too hot to handle during the final burns, the other was ok. We are going to try another with the same wick and see what happens...and also go down one wick size and see if that helps.
  7. Is there a one pour paraffin tart and/or votive wax? I can make such a mess when I do the second pour on tarts if I don't do the first pour "just right"....LOL I have to leave a little of the tin showing on the first pour so the second pour has something to hold onto...
  8. Thanks so much for the advice. Can you tell me about how much the "crimper" is for the shrink wrap? Rather than buying another tool for the shrink wrap, I wonder if I posted in the classifieds for a a few feet of tubing, if that would work. Jane
  9. We are preparing for the fall shows and would like to shrink wrap the 18-pack votive boxes that we have ready to go - the room we work in is musty and we don't want the cardboard boxes, nor the votives, to pick up the odor. We do have an impulse sealer, but have not purchased the tubing as yet. Would it be ok to use the shrink wrap that you can purchase from Michaels or the Dollar store to use on these boxes. Is it easier/less expensive to buy the rolls or the bags? We are only going to have around 25 (we are using them for melts and votives), so I am not sure if it is a wise investment for us to order a whole roll of tubing at this point. Thanks! Any advice is much appreciated! Jane
  10. Yup, I feel your pain! :undecided We did a show last week with the same results as yours....very disappointing! We also shared a table with my neighbor who makes jewelry....she did MUCH better than we did.....my husband wants to know why I don't make jewelry instead!!! :rolleyes2 It sure is easier for her to pack up her stuff and go...one folding table and a bucket...how I wish it were that easy for me!!! Better luck next time! Jane
  11. Well, our sale STUNK! LOL My neighbor had booked us for the second day by mistake- which is mostly garage sale items - so everyone was looking for something for a quarter. We did sell some air fresheners. They looked at the wickless candles and warmers - but no sales on those. A few votives, holders and lighters...that was it. We probably cleared $26...pretty darn sad. My neighbor, who was selling jewelry, did quite well, tho...
  12. Even tho my business partner had no trouble using the lighter, I found that I would tend to hold the it a bit longer than needed....and burn through the wick. It worked best for me if I just aimed the flame on the wick tab, heated that up then pushed the heated tab into the wax with the eraser. Still was a PIA....LOL Good Luck!
  13. Not sure about the pillars, but our old votive wicks needed to be heated up (we used a lighter, heated the area between the wick and the tab, then pushed it up and held it with the eraser of a pencil). Now, we use the LX10's with the higher tab - the tab itself holds the wick in place. I am sure plenty others will chime in with their tricks! Jane
  14. Which wicks are you having trouble with? I started testing with HTP's and two out of the four slipped out when I gave them a "tug". Very frustrating!! I do this before I pour the wax in, so I haven't had to clean jars, but we were testing another wick (can't remember which one right now) that would be just fine until we poured the wax it.....then it would come out of the tab and float to the top....AAAARRRGGGGHHHHHH!!
  15. Does anyone know if the wicking is similar between the two waxes. We wick with LX10's right now...wondering if they would work with this wax. I may just have to try that out....I am getting a little tired of the hammer and chisel.....LOL
  16. As soon as I opened up the thread and looked....I loved it! Very nice...different....clean...love it!
  17. Do you think they would be interested in a "Flaming Hot" jar candle? I sure can make'em...... Since this is my first Farmer's Market, and I take it from the peeps on this board that summer is the hardest time to sell candles, it may be the most action I get all weekend!
  18. We are doing a Farmer's Market on Sunday....just selling votives, tarts (whoops, meant melts...LOL), wickless candles (yup, I feel like I am the only one in the world without a perfected jar candle ), air fresheners, etc. Hoping to make a little money to reinvest.... Good Luck All!!
  19. When my sister visited from Italy, she was not impressed with OUR cappuccino...so she would probably agree with you! I just drink plain, black coffee, so I am no judge of a good cappuccino hazelnut FO.
  20. We are going to have a booth at the Farmer's Market this weekend....not sure how well we will do, but maybe I will "find" something good!!! LOL
  21. LOVE the Citrus Linen....this was one of the first ones we tried from JS. (This was in paraffin) We are in the process of ordering more of their scents.
  22. We had bought some votive holders at Michaels when they were 4/$1.00, but they were too narrow for our votives....so now we use them for measuring our FO's - works great!
  23. Has anyone tried the Leather scent? I was thinking of that one for car sachet bags/blanks. I missed out of their last ebay sale....I want in on this one!!! LOL Thanks...Jane (Hmmmm, $7.31 to ship a $1.59 pack of tart warning labels. Does anyone know if she will ship a light item like that USPS. Well, I guess I will just have to buy ALOT to make the shipping worthwhile...LOL)
  24. We figured out today that it was costing us about $1.00 to make each one (organza bag, beads, FO). What would be a reasonable price to ask for these? Thanks so much! Jane
