  1. Trappeur, Thanks for responding and I am using 8oz mason jars. I have been using these for years and zincs with much success but sometimes a heavier scent will not cooperate. I have CD wicks and I do like them. So what would you suggest to start?
  2. Sorry guys I meant to respond back sooner but I have been struggling with signing in. So I never measure by width of a wick I go by charts which are accessible online. Or I will call the company who is selling a particular brand of wick and find out where they would suggest to start testing at. All you really need is a general idea of where to start and the rest is testing. In my situation I have been using Zincs for a long time as my primary wick but sometimes they are not strong enough for certain scents. So I have a million other wicks and just wanted to see what others have had success with.
  3. Bfroberts, Thank you for your response and I do have CD’s laying around. I always have trouble with Pumpkin Soufflé from CS and Pumpkin Pie from CS and a few others. I just ordered some CD 8’s and I am hoping that they will work in my 8oz mason jars. I tried CD 10’s in those but it seemed like it was a bit too much. The 10’s seemed to melt the wax away too quickly and they got pretty hot.
  4. Hey everyone it has been quite a while since I have commented or posted a topic and I hope all is well. Ok well I am primarily a Zinc user but there are scents that I just cannot get Zincs to cooperate with while using 6006. The issue is not the scent throw but they will drown out on heavier scents. Whether I wick up or down it still does not work and it has been frustrating. I do have some CD’s, CDN’S, HTP’s, LX, ECO’s, Premiers and maybe some other brands. Anyone have suggestions on a wick that works well for them with this combo?
  5. It has been a while everyone but I need some input. I have been using 6006 for a while now but I keep having the same issue over and over again in any container. I will do my usual recipe with dye, fragrance and heating blah blah blah. I will pour slowly at 170 roughly then pull the wick taught and then let it cool. I will come back hours after cooling and there always seems to be a bit of wax about maybe 1/4 to 3/4 of an inch on the wicks at the bottom half. Sometimes the tops will look nice and smooth but it seems the wax like to attach itself to the wicks. I have used the heat gun to melt it off but sometimes that takes the coating off of it and leaves a puddle of white on the surface of my candle top. It seems that I have to repour often and I know that I can do better than that. I am not sure if the candles are cooling too quickly but I am making them in my garage and it's hot outside. They did the same thing during the winter also. I am currently using 6006 in 26 oz apothecary containers. I also sometimes use a toothpick to pick the wax off of the wicks and not bother repouring but occasionally it's just too high on the wicks. Any suggestions?
  6. I make melts as well but I do not use either wax for those. Some people do incorporate 6006 into their melts but I use my own secret recipe that does not involve either wax. You can get a good scent throw from 6006 but 3022 will have to be mixed with another wax. I would prefer a pillar wax to some degree. 3022 will melt easier and on its own it will become a mess in the container because of its softness. You will want to add some pillar to stiffen it up. 3022 has great scent throw if used with the proper scents. Scents are a big hit or miss with candles and melts. It just takes a lot of testing and money lol.
  7. Clarus 3022 works well for me with CDN wicks. I have used other wicks but I just can't seem to get them to work with this wax. I have some scents that are absolutely amazing in this wick wax combo. 6006 is a very good wax to use as well. The wicking is different for this wax though. People use all kinds of wicks in this but I prefer zincs. I am not going to give away all of my secrets here but a little won't hurt. This wax I find that it needs a little more attention than 3022. I have found that anything larger than an 8oz mason jar will most likely need a repour. I have a heat gun and a heat lamp that can also assist at times to eliminate a repour. Pouring at the right temp and a little maintenance will go a long way with this wax. It has great hot throw when it cures for a few days to a week. The cold throw I find to be a little weak in comparison to some other waxes I have used. Some may argue the cold throw comment from me but I am going off my personal experience. I usually use 8% fragrance as well. Hope that helps?
  8. Jcandleattic, It looks interesting to me but I would just like to get some opinions on it first. Nothing like throwing money at something only to find that it does not work for you.
  9. Hello all, Has anyone ever used Craftmaker pro and if so do you like it?
  10. I use a paint scraper on the 4627. I also cut slits down the sides just how Debratant described. You may want to wear disposable gloves but you don't have to. I also like many other people, store the wax in a bin protected by a lid to keep stuff out of it.
  11. Yams, Welcome to the fun!!! A business to where testing and headaches run rampant hahaha. I hope that you are willing to drop a lot of coin because this is definitely an addictive business. I first got into this thinking it would be easy but I was dead wrong!!! Thousands of dollars later only to test much of that away lol. The good news is you are learning a craft. When you finally make that one candle you have been working so hard on you will get that feeling of accomplishment and pride. Stick with it and ask a lot of questions!!! Test test test
  12. 4627 will always be soft. I use this a lot in my 8oz mason jars. This wax is nothing like 464 at all. Golden Brands 464 is a harder wax than 4627. The comfort blend has excellent hot and cold throw. I only have to let my candles mold for half a day for them to become solid. This wax will always be soft unless you blend another on to it. Cure time is pretty good though. I really only have to let them sit for 2 days but obviously the longer they sit the better they throw. Hth?
  13. Peak is starting to irritate me as well. Perhaps this is the busiest time of the year for them? They have great customer service and response times but they cannot seem to keep anything in stock. I needed a few items from them yesterday half of which they had in inventory. Consequently I was left having to pay shipping 3 times because I needed to pick up what they didn't have on hand at other suppliers. They were out of 6006 and tumbler lids which I need asap for a party that I am prepping for. I also have been waiting on their clamshells to reappear so I had to go a 3rd distributor for those and pay their shipping. UGH!
  14. I use primarily zincs with 4627 and agree with chariste. Whenever I make a candle with a higher cinnamon content and use the liquid dye brown, I run into issues. Many times my wick will die out or the scent does not like the wax and combination. I will get brown specs of cinnamon pile up at the bottom and sometimes throughout the jar. No matter how long I stir it just does not seem to take to 4627. I only use 4627 for 8oz mason containers and lower. I have run into plenty of issues trying to wick higher. I use parasoys for anything above 8oz but that's just what works for me.
  15. Hello everyone, I have been dabbling with 6006 as of late and using Zinc wicks. I am working with 11.5oz tumblers which are roughly 3 inches around. I have CDN wicks that I use in Clarus 3022 and they work really well. The Zincs do the trick at athe roughly a 60. I do however feel that sometimes it may be getting a bit too warm for my comfort. Has anyone used CDN wicks in 6006 with success? Thanks
  16. Yams, I get my wicks mostly from Peak. I try to stay with the same supplier for each brand of wick. Sometimes other suppliers will provide you their version that they get from other suppliers and it winds up being a little different. My cdn wicks I get from a different supplier and premiers from Aztec. Your welcome it's no problem
  17. Np anytime you need some help just message me. Don't let 4627 scare you it's not all that bad. Have fun
  18. Yams, Sorry I forgot to answer a couple questions for you. I never use candle science wick chart because it seems to be off a little. I like Rustic Essentuals chart. Wick guides are only a general kind of chart. They will land you in the ball park for where to start. Every wax, fragrance, amount of dye and so on will ultimately determine which wick. You will have to test and test and test. This does consume time and lots of money believe me. Problem with all of this is its addictive. I would start off with Zincs for 4627.
  19. Yams, In 4627 people will tell you to use htp wicks because that's what suppliers recommend. I have never had much luck with those plus they soot a lot. I use 4627 in 8oz square mason jars. I have tried wicking larger containers with this wax but ran into issues. This is not to say that you will run into issues but I have. I may try again in the future but for now I use parasoy blends in larger containers. I will warn you that 4627 is very gooey and sloppy! It is a strong scented wax but very sloppy to use. I recommend using a metal spatula that you don't want anymore to cut into it and it's easier to slide the wax off with it. You also will need paper towels or old rags to wipe your hands off with. You could use disposable gloves I am sure. The wax in my experience will almost always leave wetspots on the containers and sometimes little bubbles. Cosmetically it is definitely not the best looking wax. It will take liquid dye well and will smell amazing. I use it all of the time because my customers love strong scented candles and don't really care about the cosmetic aspect. Now 464 wax I would try premiers and cd wicks. I had a lot of trouble with 464 myself so I gave up on it. Frosting, sinkholes, and 2 week cures did me in. Sometimes it's good to focus on just 1 wax at a time until you get into the swing of things so to speak. Learn how to use 4627 and get some successes under your belt and build that confidence. Since you use candle science, get their Mac apple, cranberry marmalade, honey suckle jasmine and grapefruit mangosteen. You will thank me later lol. Lastly, if you have any questions just message me. Hope that helps?
