  1. Thanks chuck, Does this wax require any wicking up like 4627 or is it about the norm? I am looking to see if I can get a sample from somewhere. I left an email with the Clarus people.
  2. I do have cd wicks but not cdn. Is there a big difference?
  3. Chuck out of curiosity, being that it's a mix, what kind of wicks work well with the Clarus?
  4. OK Becky I just ordered all of the zincs that you suggested and should be here in a couple days I imagine. At least I know that I will have all that I need for testing
  5. I have noticed that my brownie scent worked really well in soy but it's lacking a bit in paraffin. Hmmmm interesting point and thank you for that tip. Makes sense now
  6. Thanks Candybee! It is definitely a journey to say the least yet fun and grueling at the same time
  7. Yes that helps but it's super frustrating considering I have used just about every wick known to man for 4627 lol. I will try the zincs tomorrow and hope lol. I would love to have my own formulation believe me. I am still a rookie within my first year. I have learned tons already though. I will need to buy more zincs though if these seem to work. I only have a sample pack of 3 different kinds.
  8. Yes cranberry marmalade is on the sweeter side but amazing. Also peak sells cranberry oak which I really like. Yes candle science has a lot of great scents but some just won't work with me. Honey suckle jasmine is super strong, Hansel and gretel, macintosh apple are some of my favorites from candle science. Aztec has chocolate brownie which is fantastic. I got mojito from NG and jelly bean which are not bad. I am looking to try a different paraffin wax. I want to experiment with one that is not too hard to wick. 4627 that I use is great for scent throw but horrible to wick. I am not against blending but I need a starting point lol. I want a wax that looks decent with a decent scent throw and easier to wick. Any suggestions?
  9. Becky, I took your advice on the zincs and made a couple last night. I made a cranberry marmalade from candle science in a libby and one in a 6oz mason. I used the wick sizes that you had suggested. I will test tomorrow and see how they work out. How are you liking the new scents?
  10. Hey everyone, I am just curious to see what others may be using as their wax of choice for container candles. I know that many people blend waxes much like how I do for melts. I have used GB464 soy and its not bad but the cure times are crazy. I have and still do use igi4627 and it has awesome scent throw but wicking is really tough. I want a wax that is easier to wick and had a decent scent throw without crazy cure times. Paraffin wax is a preference of mine. Any ideas as a starting point? I really do not want to keep switching waxes but I would like to experiment a bit more. Thanks
  11. Wow that is a lot of fragrances but then again they are on sale for .99 lol. I first started with soy and yes the cure times are ridiculous with mostly mediocre scent throw. My customers want scent throw above all else. I am most selling little jellies and lots of melts. My melts are more popular than the candles. I need to get the libby jars down so I have variety. The masons and 12 sided I am working on also. My business is only a part time thing for now but I do well with melts mostly lol
  12. I was thinking of blending soy with 4627 and giving that a go. First I want to try these zincs. It's all good in regards to the date thing haha. I have learned a ton as well on this site. I need to get this formula down for at least a couple candles. Great throwers I have found are cand let sciences Mac apple, Hansel and gretel, cinnabuns, and a couple others. Aztec has fudge brownie which is great. Trying to nail down the right wick for these libbys ugh. Can't wait to try the zincs in these
  13. I would love to meet up with someone else in the candle business to see how they make theirs compared to how I make mine. I have often wondered what the differences are in the production aspect. Different temperatures, ways of cooling, so on and so on.
  14. Thank you and I was about to ask you about the difference in waxes. Usually 4627 I have to wick up. I do appreciate the secrets though and it is a struggle with this wax. I think that if I made candles full time than I would have figured most of this out by now. I have a full time job and a fill in pt job and a girlfriend lol. Sorry Becky but I hope that you can still help out haha
  15. Awesome! Thanks Becky I will definitely give them a try. I wonder why zincs only have a couple sizes lol. Do I need to twist the zincs before I pour?
  16. As long as the dark side works I am happy with that. My main concern is the heat of the containers while they burn. I find that after a burn or two, the jar is never hot right where the wick is burning, it gets hot at the top of the jar. Many times its just hot on 1 side of a jar. Also after almost every burn regardless of wick type, the mushrooms or pieces of the wick fall into the wax after I blow them out. I hear that this is not safe for it may cause a fire. Does any of this sound normal to you?
  17. Ahhh yes and I will try those as well. Maybe tomorrow I will just crank out some libbys with zinc and also a htp 93 to see.
  18. I was thinking the same thing but I will burn it down to see. I think I tried the 104 but it soots the jar. May try a 93 next but I want to finish off the 83 burn. If these wicks don't work properly than I will be at a loss
  19. I'm guessing towards the end it may burn it all off?
  20. Not sure if he did or not but I think his understanding is that the next size up will probably soot. It's a good inch to a inch and a half hangup. Almost like it's tunneling but he said to have patience with it
  21. Sorry I have been fighting a cold for a bit. I haven't gotten much testing done yet. I did however make a libby jar and placed a htp 83 in it. I am testing at the moment. I have burned it twice for 4 hours a piece and it does not get to the edges as I was told it wont. The scent is not strong but I'm thinking that's because it's lemon meringue. I put 8% in but the lemon meringue is not the strongest to begin with. I also made yesterday a small mason jar of blueberry at 8% with 1 drop of blue dye and an HTP 83 also. I will test that tomorrow to see where it stands. I will finish the libby burn and I'm hoping that the sides will burn off eventually.
  22. 4627 since I have used it has always had a dancing flame. I'm willing to bet that the only way to not get that is to maybe mix it. It's a stubborn but great wax I believe
