  1. Wow, so beautiful Suzy! I absolutely love the colors and your labels are amazing. Very pretty! You may have just earned a new customer. I've gotta try those body butters. They look like frosting!
  2. Truth be told, those people that the OP quoted probably just did a Google search and regurgitated what others have said. I believed the same hype until I did my own research.
  3. Like Candybee I stopped using the double broiler method when i started getting water in my wax. I have the presto pot and a griddle in my workstation and I stay far away from water. You can heat your wax directly on the stove, but it just heats up too quickly for my tastes. I remember watching a YouTube video and a guy laid aluminum foil over the eye on his gas stove and put his poouring pot on top of that. There were so many "Oh my god, this is so simple. i can't wait to try this!" comments on his video, that it brought a little tear to my eye. Sometimes I think of him and I wonder if his kitchen is still standing.
  4. Their email address (if anyone still needs it) is support@candlescience.com . I've used that sucker plenty and Heather usually responds rather quickly.
  5. Not sure OldGlory. Like Candybee said, maybe if enough people complain, they will make some changes. I won't hold my breath though.
  6. Yup! I selected a free sample of Brown Sugar & Fig and they wanted to charge me $13.00 to ship it. No ma'am!
  7. I remember speaking to Heather about it. At the time, she said it's just because they are two separate boxes, shipping from 2 separate locations, resulting in two different shipping rates. This is why I just remove anything shipping from NC from my cart. I am still small time and the shipping fees just put a killing on my pricing. Reno is about 8 hours from Vegas, so it's still not worth it for me to drive there, but man oh man do I consider it sometimes!
  8. Candybee, it shows where your items ship from at checkout. If there's ever anything in my cart shipping from NC, I cancel it. I'm in Vegas and shipping from their Reno store is still very expensive to me. There's no way I'd pay two different shipping prices. I do love CS and their customer service is amazing. If I order before 4pm, I get my order the next day, but I'd be willing to wait longer if it saved on shipping. A 50lb case of 464 will run me $83.00. $29.00 of that is shipping. Eh well. At least they give you a free 1oz fragrance sampler
  9. Ah Carribean Teakwood...That is another one of my favorite scents. Nag Champa as well. I also love their Day at the Spa and Oakmoss and Amber fragrances. I tend to shy away from typical kichen/baked scents, but their Cranberry Marmalade brings a little tear to my eye. LOL, I LOVE that one! Now, I think I differ from a lot of advice given here, because I don't add my fragrance until the wax is more of a motor oil consistency and I pour just before slushie. I know "185" is the golden rule, but I get much better throw when I don't add my oil at that hot a temp. On the flip side of that, I have no idea what the actual temps are because I just eyeball it, so I'm probably not the best to give out specific instructions. I also let my candles cure longer than 24-48 hours. I sometimes wait a month or two (gasp!), but two weeks minimum. I just try to let them cure as long as I can because one time, I made a Hydrangea candle in a little 6 oz 12 sided jar (I think CS has since discontinued them) and I had it lit upstairs in my bedroom and it had my entire 4 bedroom, 2 store home lit up! So, the longer the cure, the better. You really do just have to experiment and see what combination rocks your world. That's part of the fun
  10. I use 464 and I do like it, but it can be very tough to work with. When I first started making candles, I followed the instructions to a T. The first batch I made came out amazing. I used the cube jar and I could smell that sucker all over my house. I also thought, easy peasy! Nothing to this candlemaking. Why does everyone claim it's so difficult and you have to test, test, test? I got very cocky. I laughed at everything I read about how making a candle is a science and there are so many variables that go into making them. The next day, I marched back into my kitchen and I made more candles. I waited when I burned it...hmph. Nada. Nothing. No scent throw. My mom said that if she leaned waaaaaay over into the candle, to where she almost dipped her nose in the wax, she could smell them. Outside of that...nah. Candle Science has all of these videos and tutorial that make it seem very easy, but your testing will be never ending. Every container, every jar, every wick, every fragrance, you'll need to test it and then test it again and again and again. No one can give you the perfect formula, because it doesn't exist. You have to create the perfect forumula for yourself and the only way you'll be able to do that is to spend a lot of time (and even more money) to test everything. I have tried the Egyptian Amber fragrance oil. I'm actually burning it right now and I'm getting a really good throw but, I do not add my fragrance at 185 and the ugliest candles I've ever made were poured at 135, so you just have to try a few different things and see what works for you. Make sure you check the leaf rating for the fragrance oils that you buy. I like strong candles, so I only buy the ones with the 3 leaf rating. Good luck!
  11. I double wick with 464. You may want to just get some soy wax and run some tests to see if the switch is worth it for you. I really like working with 464, but there were several times I heavily considered dumping it. I don't find soy super easy to work with, but that's just me.
  12. For the frosting, have u all tried pouring your wax when slushie? If I add color, I always pour slushie and I rarely get frosting.
  13. I use a different wax, but I always cure my candles with the tops on. Good luck with your candles OP! Let us know how they turn out!
  14. I use tons of paper towels, my heat gun and alcohol. After I pour, I wipe my pouring pot out with paper towel. Then I put some alcohol on the paper towel and wipe it out again to remove any left over scent. I wipe down my thermometer and spoons with alcohol too. If there's any hard wax, I melt it with the heat gun and then wipe up the wax. Done and done!
  15. Your soaps are so cute! I've been stalking YT soap makers as I'm also thinking of adding soaps to my line. I have gotten so used to creating my own products that I can barely stand using anything else! Nice work!
  16. I buy labels from onlinelabels and I print them in Photoshop. It does take trial and error to get them just right. I usually print everything on a plain sheet of paper, then line that up behind the labels. Put that up to the light and see if anything needs to be adjusted.Have you tried that? This way, you don't waste your labels.
  17. I was going to suggest Carribbean Teakwood from Candle Science. I really love that one. How much are you using? It has a pretty strong throw to me.
  18. I love the Pink Magnolia FO. It's one of my favorites. 464 throw can be tricky. I made a 6oz Hydrangea candle back in October and totally forgot about it. I lit it the other day and it smelled up my whole house. Just a little 6ozer. Keep experimenting. It really is like reaching the promised land once you get it right. Candle Science has great oil, so if you're not getting the HT, let them sit a bit longer and then start experimenting with different wicks and fragrance loads until you find a combo that you really like. Good luck!
  19. I've also dumped ECOs for the CD wicks. CS swears by ECOs in the 464, but the CD wicks have worked out much better to me. The way the ECOs curl and drown in the mp is very frustrating and they just don't seem to burn as hot. Not for me anyway. I much perfer CDs. They are my go to wicks for now.
  20. I use Candle Science and Peak. I haven't used the Candle Makers Store. I've had good luck with the wick guide on CS but I do have to wick up a size. Which wax/jars have you started your journey with?
  21. I've used woodwick in the cube jar and the lucida jar from CS. I loved the way they burned. I used 6% of the Plumeria fragrance and 6% Hawaiian Breeze and they did really well. I ended up moving and lost my woodwicks, but I definitely want to order more.
  22. Does everyone heat their GB464 to 185? I usually don't get my wax that hot. I only heat until around 135. I add my fragrance at around 100 and then pour. I know this wax is designed for hotter pours, but I just can't stand having to wait so long. It's about an hour sometimes and I get too impatient
