  1. Thats what I would do. I only do plain paraffin with 10% stearic for my pillars in a 3 inch diameter and I almost exclusively use 28 and 30. You can use the 12 for votives if you are stuck with it - they actually burn very nicely for those.
  2. If you are willing to carry shipping cost, which i think would be around $8 but I would have to check, I can send you about 2lbs of it, no charge for you to play with. You only use about 1-2% max. PM me with your zip code if you want me to confirm shipping. Katinka
  3. Just so you know, I would be willing to go into a co-op for about 300 at least at that price if you are willing to ship internationally! Katinka
  4. I use LX 28 for a 3inch diameter in lighter fragrances and a LX30 for heavier like vanillas and strong coffees. I have absolutely everything from 12 up and trust me, if it is straight paraffin start looking at the 28 and wick up or down. I know what the manufacturer says, but I have personally found you have to wick up extremely with these. BTW, I use them exclusively for my pillars. HTH Katinka
  5. Here we have an additive called Paraflint C80 that makes paraffin a beautiful opaque white. I believe it is similar to your luster crystals, but not 100% sure. A good person to ask would be topofmurryhill - he know alot, about additives too. HTH
  6. I test paraffin 2 to 3 days after making them but I know of people who light them after 24 hours to test wicks. Soy has to wait a bit longer, anything from 4 - 5 days for me. HTH!
  7. Just because it is an expensive candle or O promotes it, it does not really automatically mean that it is a badly made candle. I think it is a mistake to think all big companies make bad candles, you simply don't know that. I used to be very quick to critize any candles I saw in stores that have a mass-produced look, and then I realised at least theirs are on the shelve and selling (even if only because people don't know better) and mine are not, so who is the idiot in the equation?
  8. most probably FO yes, could be that your soap got too hot while gelling
  9. My MIL covers them with fabric, ribbon and lace and then hangs a tiny crochet beaded ball on them that she scents with a drop of FO to make your cupboard smell nice. If you want I can take a pic for you and post it. HTH Katinka
  10. hack it to pieces using a butter knife and remelt your wax at a low temp to reuse. you might want to spray the insides of your molds with a non stick surface spray - sounds like they need it.
  11. have a look on candlewic.com - they have a huge selection.
  12. Mushrooms are a bit of both - could be too big a wick or too much unburnt fuel (fo, particularly heavy ones). I have found the LX does that with the 100% soy I tried it with and now use HTP's in a parasoy blend. My LX's don't mushroom in pure paraffin, though. I know that you get the LX30 with the NST (I think that it) treatment which are supposed to be better for veg blends. Fo's made from soy - how the heck? HTH Katinak
  13. As far as I know beeswax is reasonably hard and brittle, so I don't think poured candles like votives would work with 100% beeswax. I might be wrong (won't be the first time) but I think that is why you mostly see the sheet rolled beeswax candles when it is 100% beeswax. Any specific reason why you want it beeswax only? I think that would make a rather expensive candle and I am not sure if I see the point, so maybe enlighten me? Katinka
  14. Candlewic has the best prices I have seen too. I once got some from Candlescience that was also really well prices - might want to have a look just to make sure.
  15. Some of my favourites is: Raspberry Vanilla Creme - people just can't get enough of this Hyacinth Chula Orchid - very light, subtle flower Plummeria - spa's love this one Ultimate Vanilla - I love this one Caramel Cinnamon Latte - so strong I only use 0.5oz pp. I probably have close to 75 samples of hers that I still have to put in wax, but those I have put in my line.
  16. Hi Cybersix - glad to see you are thinking on the positive side again! Got a bit worried for you there for a while. All I can say is go for it, because if you don't someone else soon will!! And remember, there is someone else in the same boat you are, so if you ever want to chat just shout! Katinka
  17. LX 30 is the biggest size available from the manufacturer, Wedo. Candlescience also sells it by the yard. And I have also bought from Candlewic before.
  18. Burners to go with wax melts, votives, scented sachets (to be used in tumble dryers, as car freshners or in cupboards) - those are the only ones I can think of right now.
  19. In body care there is no problem, but it face care it has been proven to be comedogenic, i.e. it causes blackheads. Also, used to be used alot as an eye make-up remover because it emulsifies the waxes and pigments used in these products so easily. However, I know of one plastic surgeon at least who condemns the use of this, because it can enter the tear duct of the eye and being oil based can cause long term problems with your eyes and the surrounding tissue, meaning it can actually build up in the fatty tissue surrounding the orbital cavity and that is not pretty. Just another bit of info - not meaning to be negative at all. If you intend to use it as a base for body exclusively, can't see the problem. HTH Katinka
  20. Handling fees should really be stipulated in their "shipping info" section on the website - I always check that because I order international. Whether national or international, dishonesty with regards to shipping is simply unacceptable. As far as I am concerned if the company did their costings properly handling charges should come off their gross profit margin and not be the customers problem.
  21. If you don't mind me asking, what temp are you pouring the 50/50? Thanks, Katinka
  22. generally 1 oz per pound of wax or almost 6%,i.e. 456 grams of wax plus 28 grams of fragrance oil. at the risk of sounding offish, the reason why you are probably not getting a heck of alot of responses is because this type of answer can be found very easily (and alot faster, BTW) by doing a search or reading old posts, always a good place to start off with...
  23. Don't know about a UK supplier, but Greenleaf sells them, so does Indiana Candle Supplies and also Just Scent and Daystar. I have had them shipped before and it was really not that bad!
