  1. Hi i heat my wax to 190 and add FO around 170-180 and stir while cooling pour at 100-120. i have to say the temps depend on my candle room temp. if its cold i have to pour candles closer to 100 because they cool to fast and cave around the wick. i dont use alot of dye in my soy candles just enough to tint them so they all arent white . I dye in bulk though i will make an enitre pot of pink or what ever colour and then when it hardens the whole thing comes out so when i want to make candles that would be pink its easier than dying one batch at a time. i heat to 190 and use liquid dye. stir stir stir. Happy chandling
  2. Hello all I have been expierimenting with mixing some of my scents. any suggestion any at all. I think im flying blind here.
  3. I have tried the vanilla lace it did well in my soy candle but i prefer to have it around to mix with.
  4. Thats what it said soy based fragrance oils. here is the site soycandlewax.com and thank you for the reply I am now melting and repouring test candles with HTP. Talk about burning the midnight oil. Test test test test test every candle I make is a test and I want a gold star for effort.
  5. I have read some of the posts and I am still confused. I am using LX 30 wick in cb puresoy with 1oz fo per 16oz of wax ( i dont know what % that is). Is mushrooming to much wick or to much candle. I am testing now and have found my wick doesnt have any curl to it. It is straight as an arrow and has the weakest flame. I could poke it and its does better but who has time to poke candles all day. I think I should go back the HTP. Also I have seen adverts for fo's made from soy has anyone tried them?
  6. I cant find the samples I need. I have tested and tested and know that I need to test these paticular sizes LX 26 28 30 and CD 26 28 30 and HTP 1212 1312. I have already tested sizes up to this point. Does anyone know where I can get samples containing only these sizes. I dont need many just 5 of each size should do well. If anyone has large enough cut offs from made candles and could mail me some just send me an email or catch me on the IM's. I also have hundreds of HTP 126 and 105 if anyone needs them ill send them to you. I have samples of a few more if anyone is interested. Thanks for the replies to my pour pot problems. Cheers
  7. i got my last shippment of jars from candlesandsupplies.com
  8. I am currently using the small metal pour pot and the mess is terrible. If I pour the bulk amount quickly I am fine but the smaller amount just dribbles down the side of the jar and pour pot. I considering a funnel. Please tell me the skill of being able to pour the candle to the desired amount is something that gets better over time. Should I be concerned if my candle isnt the EXACT oz amount I can eyeball and come pretty close. Maybe im just overthinking it.
  9. Hello All I need to find some help regarding home based business. I have researched on my own and gathered enough useful information and would like to take it to the next step. If anyone has recommendation or information with one-on-one mentoring or groups targeted for this I would be most greatful. Cheers
  10. some of my candle do the same thing. just two days ago i called one of my contacts who works with makers of soy wax for candles about this very problem. tunneling around the wick seems to happen if i pour the candle to cold or if it cools to fast. he said soy doesnt like cold for any reason and becomes more tempermental than a cranky bear.:waiting:consistant enviornment has been the key. if my candle room is cooler than normal or my jars are colder than normal or if i pour the wax too cool it clumps and creates tunnels. it sound crazy but if my jars are cold i use an electric roaster. i dont use it for cooking anymore and as i am heating my wax i will turn it on warm put the lid on it and let it sit for a few minutes min then turn it off and set my jars in it. by the time im ready to pour the jars have become just warm enough. its deep enough and big enough to hold 12 jars. ive wicked the jars before and after i warm them with no problems
  11. I dont use dye. My customers like the natural look of the candle and since i use them as a body oil dye would only defeat the purpose. i will dye them only if i have a request for them. i use a frosted jar so the candle is already dressed up. you would be surprised if you use a fantastic glass colour wont matter.
  12. Soy candle making is not for the faint of heart. I currently make only one size soy candle using CB-pure soy wax in a 6oz. frosted deco jar. No dyes and only body care FO's. This is a most difficult jar to wick and i have considered changing but my customers are deeply in love with the jar so i accept thier challenge of making a quality candle in this paticular jar. The resaerch i have done both on the web and by speaking to the distributors of the wax i use, while helpfull, can add more aggervation to the pursuit of my goal. I have also considered other application of soy in lotions and soap but the all-in-one candle/body product is very fetching for people. I love the idea of a soy candle that is body friendly. My main reason for this is that i have a special needs son and we live in New England where dry skin especialy in the winter can be brutal. I use the candle on a warmer and then apply to his rough little knees and i can honestly say it has worked wonderfully on him. i have even given up spray perfume for the everyday use of my candles. we smell fantastic and are as soft as a baby's tushie. what more could you ask for? I try to keep this candle as pure as possible so i can continue to use it as a body oil. Now that soy is being used in everything from lotion to make-up the marketing of this candle gets easier. My success has come first from my personal use and from there the sincere "word of mouth" advertising. I have a grand goal for my candles and hope to make this my livelyhood. I want to thank all of you for the information you share on here and say that for whatever reason you make your candles that your contribution helps in so many way. I have learned so much from all of you just by reading your posts. To each of you best of luck and i cant wait to see what comes next. Cheers ScentedGrace
  13. I have found a wick size that is working about 90% of the time. i was considering using a wick made of different material to improve the other 10%. Cotton V. Paper has anyone had to switch material for certain FOs?
