Grannyscandles
Anyone checked these out lately! I bought sunflower instead!
pixie*dust
Yeah, Olive prices are way too high at the moment!I replaced all the Olive in my soaps with RBO instead, and am quite pleased with the results. Who knew RBO could make such a silky lather, and why didn't you tell me earlier!pix
lindsaycb
I like RBO too...but my skin misses olive. It can tell the difference.
Kaybee23
Kroger here has had Olive Oil on sale for 25% off for the last couple of weeks, so I stocked up. I still use it in my soap, just at a smaller percentage.
heirloomoriginals
I ordered some RBO from the co-op and am hoping I can combine it with OO to cut down the use of the OO in my recipes (hoping i can find a base recipe that I like too).Steph
Sherie
I bought the 101 oz. jug at walmart and it comes our to about $3.13/lb. I love olive so much. I may have to try a batch and replace it with RBO to compare.
sudsnwicks
Who knew RBO could make such a silky lather, and why didn't you tell me earlier!Yeah, I wish I had known about this earlier too. I've been testing with RBO and am really liking it. I also tried cooking with it and it's great - less greasy than soybean or canola oil. Guest EMercier
I went to Costco and their extra virgin olive oil was $18.37 for 3 liters, so I figured it out to be about $3.06/lb. That's not bad. It's better than what I paid at walmart.
Candlewitch
Coscto was a Xtra virgin and i bet Wally was just a Virgin. Besides that, has anyone does a test between cheap yellow olive oil and the better green olive oil?
Crafty1_AJ
I sub out some soy for some of the olive in my recipes. Helps a bit with the bottom line, and makes decent soap, too!
soulshine
I've been testing recipes with some canola, soy shortening and rice bran to sub most of the OO.... however I haven't tried NO olive oil.... will have to try that out!!!
heather_dw
How much does RBO cost?I'll have to check that out
sudsnwicks
It depends on how much you're getting. If you get 5 gallons, it can be as low as $6 a gallon.
RobinInOR
I'm *so* glad I've never ever used olive (where's that sticking out the tongue as you're winking icon) Well, my first batch I did....
heather_dw
Yeah, the only reason I had all this olive was because I bought a bunch from carmen a while back :-)I haven't actually had to buy any at these new prices
SheilaW
When I was shopping yesterday I thought I'd pick up some olive oil. NOT! I about fell over when I saw the price. Did all the olives die or something?
RobinInOR
Actually, they did. 2 bad seasons for olives

tlc26
so tell me what is the difference with pomace oo? I got some of that super cheap. $8 for 3 liters. What is different?
Regina Filange
I bought a gallon of Pomice Olive Oil at Cash & Carry for $13 and some change. That's less than $1.75 per pound. I'm guessing that if you have a Smart and Final near you, you could get it there for about the same price.
Crafty1_AJ
Pomace is just a lower grade of olive oil. The first pressing yields extra virgin olive oil. Then the second is a grade lower. After all those pressings, then they use solvents to extract the remaining oil, which is pomace grade. It's not necessarily bad for soaping, but it wouldn't be my first choice of olive oil for cooking with. That's my understanding from the research I've done; however, my memory may be a bit rusty...I ain't getting any younger, yunno. LOL
MaryinCary
I loves me my Olive Oil. 20% in every recipie regardless of price....what can I say, I'm OLD :tiptoe:
