  1. Thanks guys, this doesn't seem like it's going to be too bad. Now I just have to go pick up some pumpkin and some pumpkin pie spice! thanks so much!
  2. If I wanted to adjust my usual soy/coconut oil CP soap recipe to make it for fall. How do I figure out how much canned pumpkin to add? Also, would I need coloring or would the pumpkin do that naturally. I have a body safe pumpkin FO, but a bit lost on the next step. thanks in advance! Also, if were to make apple cider soap, could I make it with instant cider or do I *have* to use the real thing? I have a show in September and it's too early to buy real cider around here. thanks in advance!
  3. it now costs me over 60 dollars to get a 50#case of soy wax shipped. Customers already scoff over 5 dollar candles,(they are rural farm types and they are cheap) there is no way I can raise the price. I'm either going to have to get a cheaper wax supplier or just go out of business. I usually get my wax at tennesee candle supplies. Does anyone know of a cheaper place to get it? I'm in rural Missouri.
  4. hmm,.. how would I adjust that recipe? I usually don't mess with the recipes too much, esp when I get one I like XD
  5. I got some neat molds on ebay recently and tonight I decided to try them out because I needed to make some plain olive soap. ebay link to what I bought here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=005&item=150024964188&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1 I make my usual 2 lb batch and I have two molds, each are 2lb each supposedly. Well, it filled out one mold and a bit over 1/4th of the other mold. Now what am I going to do with that other 1/4th? I'm not going to get my usual number of bars from a 2lb batch now. I like the molds too.. darn Anyone else get molds from this person and have this issue?
  6. Here is the Lilac 3 days later. The color is still holding well. The picture looks like itis turning on that bottom edge, but I don't remember seeing it that way in person (maybe it's just the pic)
  7. I already have olive oil soap for sensitive skin types, but wanted to do something else. I heard honey was a good choice and makes a nice brown soap. I took my regular recipe of soy shortening/coconut and added 1 tbl of honey per pound of oils. I added the honey to the melted oils and stick blended it and then added the lye to it because I wanted to make sure that honey was incorporated well. The "batter" turned orange, it weirded me out, not what I was expecting but here are the cut pics. I don't really notice a honey smell but it is a little sticky but not bad at all. Is this what honey soap is supposed to look like freshly cut?
  8. Thanks guys! I should get to ordering..lol
  9. Originally the soap was blue with a small white top layer (so cute!) but I did melt it all down in the microwave stirred in the shea really well and now it's back in the mold. Hopefully it will be ok! **edit** no such luck, There seems to be oil pockets on the top? Should i pitch it, or try rebatching again and cooking it longer?
  10. I have seen pumpkin soap, so there *has* to be a body safe pumpkin FO somewhere out there? I want to make a pumpkin soap but the problem is that for one, I don't think "pumpkin" is an ingredient on the soap calc, so I would have no idea how to figure a recipe and 2, I don't have a body safe soap FO. If I made one without the FO, would the natural pumpkin scent it? I was wondering the same thing about an apple cider soap.. would the cider be enough or do you *have* to have FO for it? Thanks!
  11. The recipe is 75% soy shortening and 25%coconut. I added the oils at trace. I had the purple portion set aside after I added the FO (so both colors are scented) It's the natural color of the soap, although it may still change, you never know :-)
  12. Well ladies, I went into the kitchen to cut the soap this morning and guess what i found? The Shea butter was still sitting in the microwave. Can I salvage this? The soap looks fine, it's just shorter than usual and a bit more crumbly than usual. Can I melt it in a pot and just add the shea and re-mold?
  13. Crafty, I tried that one first. It set up super duper fast and I sorta smooshed it into the mold. Hope it turns out! It's scented "Downy Clean Breeze" from Nature's Garden
  14. It traced fast while I was mixing/coloring the swirly part and by the time I was swirling, it was so stiff XD. It still turned out pretty though! Soy shortening and coconut recipe, CPOP method and Lilac Blossoms scent from Snowtop.
  15. Can someone help me make a moisturizing bar of soap with the following(dont have to use all, this is just what I have): Shea Almond oil Olive Coconut Soy shortening (i have soy oil too) sunflower Crisco little bit of grapeseed castorI can go out to buy other stuff if it's readily available at the grocery ;-) I have been playing with the lye calculator but not found anything that seems all that great :-/
