  1. I love them! I love stuff like this! I could spend so, so much on fun soaps.
  2. Omg, this made me laugh!! I don't think I will ever order black cherry!!
  3. It's ridiculous. I agree. I've seen so many bigger corporations lie about little things. Things that wouldn't even bother the average, educated person. For instance; Glade's melts. Advertise something like 80 hours per clamshell, which works out to about 12 hours per cube. HA. Lucky if you get 4. Only grinds my gears because they mention it. If the package said nothing on the subject, you just couldn't complain. Anyways. I understand! I bet it's rare for the average user to track that stuff though, kwim?! I would feel terrible if I willingly mislead my customers. And a $30 candle, Ouch! Hope it's a nice jar you can re-use!!!
  4. I did! I was just worried about shipping time since I'm in Canada and the show is next month. I'll have to do some research and order a good vinyl one not too far in the future!
  5. I just ordered 16oz if pink sugar yesterday on the fly! I'm nervous now!!!
  6. I got super excited when I saw a banner sale at Staples. They had business cards, posters, Banners on sale. I didn't realize their 'Banner' was a freaking poster. (They had 2 categories and I did not choose poster). I guess a 'banner' is just a long poster. Blah. It looks fantastic but I can't possibly use it like that. I am thinking of getting it laminated and adding grommets. I'm so bummed, I could have gotten one from Etsy or ebay for the price after lamination and it'd be a REAL vinyl banner.:undecided
  7. Ooooooh, Cracklin' birch! Poor thing. LOL! It's funny because Perfect Pumpkin was one of the first pumpkins I've liked in a long time!! Did you actually put it in wax? I despise cheesecake scents. OK, Pumpkin cheesecake...and the brulees. There's this one note, I don't know what it is...but it's in the cheesecake/souffle scents and yeah, I can't even melt them. Pumpkin crunch cake was another one that I am bummed about! I have patchouli oils but haven't put any in wax yet. I just don't like any OOTB, but I guess I should try! I think I have similar nose to Karen up there!! Though I do enjoy zucchini bread!
  8. What are some of the 'Must Have/Must Try' scents that you have made and just don't understand the hype? For me: Birds of Paradise & Island Christmas. They are both really similar to my nose and though I don't hate either one, I wouldn't buy it. My customers LOVE, LOVE them! I think everyone who sniffed island Christmas 'ooooh'ed and ahhh'ed' over it. I'm like "Mmmm, yeah.....she's a beaut!" Breakfast at Tiffany's. (Peaks, I believe) So highly rated...I HATE it. HATE HATE! It actually makes me ill. It's the only scent I've ever made that I have had such strong non-love feelings for! :undecided Okay, you go!
  9. Hey Canadians, I am too, eh!! Question; do you ladies have insurance? I'm wanting to get that sorted out (and not just craft SHOW, but year round insurance)...I'm a little puzzled on who to go with. I'd love to head into an office but alas, I'm stuck with a very busy not-quite-2 year old who would make that TRES difficult!
  10. Oh yessss! So bad but sooooo good! LOL! I just want to have an idea of when I hit the green after all these shows. Unfortunately I didn't keep any record of my sales out west, which were pretty awesome before I moved...C'est la vie! That just means when I finally get in the green (in approximately a decade! LOL!) we'll REALLY be in the green!
  11. I just started added my costs for this year (I haven't done any of that yet) to an accounting program. I think I'll just back away from the computer with a bottle of wine now....
  12. The gold one sounds so good! Very pretty! I bet they look great burning!

    Honest Opinions

I have some who are great. My family SUCKS at being testers. I get 'they smell great'. (Yes, I know that!!!) and I got 'it lasts a really long time...I've had it going for 3 hours!' LMAO! Yessssss, nailed it! Lol!!!
  14. We moved across the country recently. When I left out west, I listed my clamshells on Facebook trying to get rid of some weight before the move. I had only sold at fairs and hadn't listed on FB! It was crazy, I sold almost everything. Well, a friend from out that way tagged me in a photo of her last favourite melt (Morning Dew!) and I suggested she talk to the other girls and they could order if they wanted something and share the shipping! Oh my goodness. There's 6 girls now wanting to order! This makes me that much more nervous about my October show since this will clear out a bunch of scents! AHHH! Not that I'm complaining! I haven't even officially listed anything online yet and I had a huge order last week from a girl I know via online (6 clamshells, 6 portion cups & 4 of my soy scoopable candle jars!!!) I need to just nail down a final scent selection and order 16oz each. I'm pretty much out of all my best (just bought!) oils and now I think I'll need to make more for the fair! :undecided You US ladies are so lucky to have shipping within days. I have to wait a week-2 weeks!
  15. True. Don't be worried. You have a good product, get it out there and you'll get a following. I day dreamed about standing next to the Glade melts and challenging anyone buying one to compare it to my cube, LOL! Word of mouth travels quickly and you are priced fairly. I actually even thought of issuing a challenge on a local moms swap site, telling people to show me that they use Glade melts and then giving them a single clamshell cube. I usually offer samples (I'll make a cookie sheet worth of a popular scent and smash it up) at my craft show, so this would be another way to do it while proving my 'point'.

Have you gotten other people to try yours yet? The air in the house can make such a big difference! It's wild! We have a bungalow and its amazing what the air conditioner/an open window can do!!!
  17. I recruited one of my testers from another site after seeing her rave about a glade melt! LOL! She burned one of mine and said it filled the house whereas the glade didn't leave the room and mine lasted way, way longer!!! I was worried at first when I saw the melts but not anymore! I don't understand why big companies don't actually make sure their product is lasting?!! It's good for us but it doesn't make sense. Their claim on the package is ludicrous. (About how long one will last!!!)

Sounds good to me! I wait until its about 150 before pouring into my clams/portion cups and have to heat higher since I do t have it on a heat source after ladling but other than those differences it sounds good to me!
  19. I ended up buying a 6 and 8 foot spandex covering! I love the look! I got black and I want to make nice runners that will match my teal shelving! . I figure with black, I can easily add a different runner according to season/mood! I have bags otw, though didn't order tissue. I did get bright turquoise bags (I also have some left over red ones. Red & turquoise are in my label). I also got an extra 250 cards otw and a 72" banner custom with pics of my products! I hope it will look good!!! Staples in Canada had their cards and banners on for $20 which is awesome! I never buy things locally because its always so crazy in price so this was perfect timing!!!!
  20. OMG, I WANT SOME OF THAT! That looks beautiful (And delicious, lol!) and sounds like it smells amazing!!!
  21. This is so true. I get so frustrated when people ask questions (not on here, but in general) that could be solved by a quick Googling. (Not that candle making can be figured out that way! If only!!!) People constantly give me credit saying I'm so good at things and I always reply with "Nah, I'm just a good Googler!" LOL

ETA: Anna, I wasn't sure if you were asking OP or in general!
  23. She is close enough to drive for sure. I wrote to her suggesting she come here to pick what she would like and I can make an inventory sheet and bring it to her. (This way I can check it out!) I'm asking for more details too! From online, the shop looks cute! In a farmhouse near a bigger city than mine, which is a positive!! I totally don't mind the discount but find it odd that she suggested it! Lol I sell clamshells so I don't think there's much of a markup she can do...I guess I'll make more than wholesaling this way though so hopefully it works out! I might be back with some tips on a contract!
  24. (Sorry for my many, many posts on this board lately!!!) There's a lady semi-local to me that had a little rustic, cute home based store. Sells handmade items. She is having a 'home party' for her store and was interested in getting product. She will consign but she also will take 20% (And requests 10% off any purchases from me, by her). Wholesaling (which this is not, but it's a step, right?!) is definitely something I want to get in to. She has NO wax products (candles, nothing. I just do melts & bears)... Is 20% a reasonable amount? Anyone with any experience with this? It'd be a good way to get my stuff out there a little further. (she's a bit out of town from me but not too far)
