  1. I followed a Soap Queen recipe for whipped body butter, except I used different butters than she did. She used avocado butter and I used almond butter and mango butter. The finished result has a very grainy texture Is it because I used different butters? Any input? Here is the original recipe: 14 oz Avocado Butter 5 oz Meadowfoam Oil 1 oz Green Tea Extract 6mL Lemongrass Essential Oil 5 teaspoons Tapioca Powder
  2. Hey Daisymay! I sent you a private message.

  3. I'm starting to dabble in bath and body and I'm confused as to what items need preservatives added and which do not. I bought the foaming bath butter base from RE and added sweet almond oil to make a cream soap. Does an item like this need a preservative? The base includes salt, phenoxyethanol, and tetrasodium EDTA...which from what I'm reading seems like they all are sort of preservatives? I also have ingredients on the way to make my own body butter. Do body butters need preservatives? The recipe I am planning on using does not involve water. Just butters, oils, and tapioca powder. TIA
  4. That is really really helpful! Thank you Do you know what percentage of fragrance oil would be suggested? 2%?
  5. Hey all! It's been a while since my last post. How is everyone? I was watching an episode of Shark Tank a while back and a lady was selling her own dryer sheets that came in really fun scents. I thought that was such a great idea! Have any of you done this? Do you know where to buy the paper or whatever it is that makes the dryer sheet? Thanks!
  6. JJC, How many more do you think would have passed based on cold/hot throw alone? This is encouraging! I often times felt like I have some sort of candle curse, but I think I just don't give enough fragrance oils a try. I usually just get frustrated and switch waxes lol.
  7. What percentage (or ratio) of the fragrance oil's you try end up working out for you? In other words, how many duds do you go through before you find a winner? I don't know how to word this one. Hope that makes sense.
  8. That's not bad, imo. It costs me $3.07 per candle, mainly because I'm not in a position to buy in bulk. Once I actually start selling, I think I can get my costs down to $2.54 per candle. I don't think I'd be able to get it any lower until I started making a TON of sales.
  9. Hmm...I haven't, but it's on my list now! I've been meaning to order from BCS for a while now so this gives me an excuse
  10. I love CS Strawberry Shortcake!!! I was surprised that I could smell the strawberries, cake, AND whipped cream. I only tested it in tarts, but it performed really well.
  11. I will never end my search for a FO that smells just like Duncan Hines' Devil's Food cake mix while baking *drool* I've tried like five chocolate cake FO and they all smell like tootsie rolls and nothing like chocolate cake If they do smell sort of like cake, it has a coffee sort of smell to it that makes it off.
  12. Sorry to bring up an old thread! I splurged yesterday and placed an order with Sweet Cakes. I was wondering if anyone has tried Ocean Shoreline, Oatmeal Milk & Honey, Snow Place Like Home, Fall Harvest, Citron et Figue, Rain, or Natural Rosemary Mint. TIA!
  13. Can you actually smell the pumpkin instead of just spice? I've been looking for a FO like that since I started lol
  14. If you don't want to lose the sale, you could try to find a mold for salt & pepper shakers. This way she could get the look she wants, but they'd be a safe voltive instead of a potentially hazardous container candle.
  15. I did some Googling, and I found the web addresses she used to use. Both are inactive. There are several reviews of her products online, but the most recent one was from June of 2010. She either changed the business name or perhaps she retired?
  16. I'm assuming that these would be un-scented because of flash points and stuff, right?
  17. Sorry for the stupid question, but...what are firestarters?
  18. I recently bought Millcreek's Peanut Butter Crunch. OOB, I wasn't a huge fan because it was hard to detect the peanut butter scent. However, I blended it with some chocolate FO...and OMG!!! Judging from just the cold throw, it smells amazing!! Just like a Reese's peanut butter cup! I have yet to test it, but I'll let you know what I think. P.S. it's 15% off right now!
  19. I've only done one craft show, and it was at a church. I think your sales will be based on who your market is and if that market attends the show. I only brought wickless candles with me because it was a spring show. It was a much older crowd than I expected, and they were not too interested in non-traditional candles. The fee was $40 dollars and my sales were $150 total. I did the best of all the tables in my area. Because of this experience, I am probably going to avoid church craft shows, but like I said...it truly all depends on your product and who your market is. The 5% thing kinda sucks though...
  20. Welcome to the board, James! I have some ocd tendencies too! lol
