  1. Ditto. Since I don't do candles, but I do melts, I run into that same problem sometimes. It got to where I was getting so many requests for scents that weren't so strong, that I actually had 10 scents that I sold as "lightly scented". Some people's sinus's can't take barn busters, but they do want something. Also, others like to have four or five candles burning in the room for ambience(sp) but need them scented light.
  2. Both Buttercream and Snickerdoodle have vanilla in it. I'd put money on that's what caused it to go brown. FO's with vanilla in them, need a vanilla stabilizer in them ( I get mine from WSP) to keep them from turning. There's different stabilizers for wax, another for lotions and yet another for soaps.
  3. I've always been a Hobby Lobby gal, but I hit Michael's up after Valentine's day and Christmas, and get their decorations and such for way cheap.
  4. It's sort of "what the market will bear" ( no pun intended ) .. I've seen the smaller ones go for 15.00 and the big ones for 25.00. Me myself, I never can get more than 13.00 for a medium size.
  5. Cake, yall might think I'm crazy, but I literally cried the day I went to order more LBC and it was forever gone. I got 2 lbs off of someone in the classies, but it's gone now too. I don't think anything can replace that. Karen, I have really gotta bite the bullet and try the BSC LPC. I keep hearing how great it is.
  6. well dang that bites since it's not what you're looking for. Hopefully they'll get some more back in soon. A lot of times I'll get my clear basket wrap from there and it seems like I buy out all they have, then later when I need more, there isn't any to be found anywhere for a few weeks.
  7. Yep Yep !!!!!!!!!!! Trust me, the money spent will be more than worth it. Check on Ebay for pop up tents that have the silver coating on the inside. I have two.. a 10x10 and a 10 x 20 and I'd probably kill someone if they tried to make off with them. That silver coating is a true and total life , and product, saver. ( it's amazing how cool, or how warm ) it keeps it inside, depending on the weather. I've had people come into the tent just to escape the heat at MANY craft shows. ( it also has four removable sides with windows) People who come in from the heat or cold and hang around for a little bit, tend to feel obligated to buy something. They are warm/cool, I make money.. we're both happy !
  8. Do you have a Dollar Tree around you? I get tons of the glass votive holders from there
  9. I love those bears. Usually I get some from BCN when I order, or I've even gotten them from discount stores. Kiss them on the nose before dunking them LOL. The fluffing is the fun part:)
  10. Congrats on make a lil money. That's always a good thing.
  11. Thanks so much sweetie. I guess out of all of them, the tie dye ones, and the really big floral ones for centerpieces, are my favorites .
  12. Thanks so much. What I love about them is they can be as "plain" or "fancy" as you'd like. I had to figure out something to do to compete with all you amazing candle makers and serious soapers lol
  13. @ Simply I'm flattered! Here's some of the more plain ones
  14. Congrats T. Trust me, sometimes breaking even, is an accomplishment in itself !!!!!!!!!!! Be proud, you got your money back out of it, you got some exposure, and you got invaluable experience.
  15. I don't scent them on purpose. I use a lot of wax accumulated over time from melts I burn for my own personal enjoyment, and that from dipping tp or pinecones so they usually have some scent in them , but no , I don't purposely scent them
  16. I'm with Faithful, I pretty much pour accurately, but sometimes I'll get some left over and I use it for either the firestarters or just melts for me ( OR I'll make grab bags of various scents ) When I'm doing my TPs is when I usually have some left over and I use it for melts most times ( for me ) I always have left over wax when I dip pine cones, and it goes for the firestarters.
  17. I agree 100% with Scented. I got a helluva deal on some closeout FO's from BCN 5 years ago and the last time I used some, in Feb, it was just as kick butt as it was the day I got it. But I've also bought some off of some classifieds before, where they said they were a year or so old, and they weren't worth the time it took me to pour it out of the bottle. All you can do is test and see.
  18. I wish I was joking If any of you are members of the Bittercreek board, you can do a search on it and all sorts of things will pop up and numerous people who have received the C&D order. Edit : Here is a copy of the C&D letter a lady got, back in 05 : This company is the owner ofthe trademark TARTS (U.S. Registration No. 1,726,934) covering fragrant wax for use in potpourri burners(a copy of the registration is attached). Federal registration of ths trademark gives this company the fullprtection of the trademark and unfair competition provisions of the Lanham Act, as well as protectionunder state laws governing trademarks and unfair competition. We recently visited your website, which uses the name "Tarts" when referring to fragrant wax for use in potpourri burners. Your product name uses the trademark protected by our federal registration. Your use of the names "Tarts"on identical or similar goods is a clear infringement of our rights and is likely to cause confusion among customers that your business and products are endorsed by or in some way connected with this company. The purpose of this letter is to advise you of your infringing acts and to request that you promptly cease and desist from all use of the name"Tarts" or any colorable variation thereof, in connection with fragrant wax for use in potpourri burners. We would prefer to resolve this controversy in an amicable fashion and would, therefore, consider this matter to be satisfactorily resolved if: (A) You promply sign and return the enclosed copy of this letter indicating your agreement not to use the name "Tart", or any colorable bariation thereof, in connection with the sale, shipment, or advertising of fragrant wax for use in potpourri burners after May 13, 2005; and ( You refrain from any future use of any of the trademarks of The Yankee Candle Company, Inc., in connection with any of your company's products, and © You actually carry out this agreement. (( Sorry for the typos, having fumble fingers tonight )) Also, hold yall's hats............. the word " wickless " is trademarked ( guess by who ) Here is another post on the BC board from the owner at the time, this was written in 99 : (There's a bunch to the it and I"ll put the link up, but here's the gist of it) The problem is that the large companies are being granted trademarks on common scent names, such as "Strawberries-n-Cream" and "Sugar Cookie" which are very common food scents, "Christmas Eve" which is the name of a holiday, and "Home Sweet Home" which is a commonly used phrase. They are also trademarking common names of candle types, such as "Cake Candle" and "Tart". Cake Candles, made by frosting a pillar candle with whipped wax, have been being made for years, and have been referred to as "Cake Candles" by crafters and even in craft books since the 1970's. The word Tart is a common shape of a pastry with scalloped edges and has become the common term for the wax potpourri "tarts" that are made to be melted in potpourri burners to scent a room. It is the common names like these that home and small business candle crafters object to being trademarked. Large companies are taking advantage of the fact that they can afford to trademark as many names as they want (which costs $245 just to register each one) whereas most of the smaller candle companies can't. It seems they are attempting to use this as a tool to corner the market and keep these smaller, but ever increasing, competitors from sharing in the sales. As I understand it, even when a small candle company can purchase a fragrance oil for use in candlemaking from one of the many large fragrance manufacturers, that may be named "Sugar Cookie" etc, the candlemaker cannot technically use that scent name on their candle if another candlemaking company has a it trademarked. The key here is that the trademark is on the name as it pertains to candles, not as it pertains to the oil that scented it. So a supplier can sell an you an OIL called "Sugar Cookie", but that doesn't mean you can call your CANDLE "Sugar Cookie". The manufacturer, seller or creator of the fragrance name can also trademark the name for use on the fragrance oil itself, so that other suppliers cannot copy it. 19. I use the Diamond Clear from Aztec and love it
  20. I make mine with cedar pet bedding chips and wax, and there's not a drop left of anything
  21. That, for a lot of us, is a really sore subject ( them trademarking common every day words ). Not sure how anyone on here feels about it, but we've had QUITE a few "discussions" on the Bittercreek boards about it. Yankmee has sent quite a few cease and desist letters to individuals for the use of that word and others. I'm cooking so I can't look it up right now, but I think they have All Hallow's Eve locked up, and Sugar Cookie, and some other things. Not positive on which ones, but I know it's quite a few words we've used since the dawn of time.
  22. Just an inkjet and they come out very nice. It's a Brother and although it is NOT "rated" to do card stock, it handles it like a pro. It cost about 99.00 at Office Depot.
  23. Bless your heart. I'm so sorry that is happening to you.
  24. With the templete ( it's the same as the name badges in size ) you just cut them out, and stick them inside the clamshell. They fit absolutely perfectly. Also, you don't have the risk of something messing your labels up. I will say this though. I do NOT dye my wax, I leave it natural. If there is an FO that has a ton of vanilla in it, it will eventually over time, turn the label a light beige. ( but , on the back of my card, it states that any discoloration in the wax or label, is due to the vanilla and it's nothing to be concerned with, and a natural occurance.
