  1. Hi Stacey, I use muffin tins also...mini muffin tins. I put them in the freezer for a while, or sometimes I'm tired and forget so they stay in there until I think I'm missing something and have to go look for them! They come right out. I usually put a piece of wax paper over the pan and tip them. Don't wanna break 'em! I make wickless as well. Find a short jar, not more than 2-3" tall. Larger jars take too damn long to melt. ie, a 6oz jar took me over 3 hours before I got a full enough melt pool to smell anything. Who has time for that? Good luck to you
  2. I just love the colors and theme. under candles: 4 OZ jj candle $4.50, but 8oz. jj candle $2.50 under 8 oz smelly jelly: alittle Nice site.
  3. I know the smell you're talking about...I got it with Christmas Thyme...not in the wax melts or wickless, just in the wicked jar. How can this be? It has to be the FO, there's no petroleum in soy. What is up with that anyway? Thought it was me. I'm glad you posted this
  4. I went to Wal-Mart and got a box of 300 glue dots, press the wick tab to the dot, and stick it in the cup. Doesn't budge.
  5. I am not familiar with them, but there is a difference between not offering good customer service, and just having a jerk at the phone. Some ppl just don't care, but that's the nature of any business. Believe me, it is hard to find good help. Others here say that they got great service from the owners...that is who you should contact, and let them know that the person you dealt with didn't give a damn whether the company got your business or not. It's important to them, I'm sure. It's a shame that someone like that is dealing with the customers. I once called my bank when they didn't deposit my husband's check into our account, and bounced checks, and charged me $15 for each check. What made it worse, is that the check was drawn from the company's account..AT THE SAME BANK! You wouldn't believe it, but the idiot on the phone had a world class excuse...dig this..."We don't cash checks"! To which I said, you're a bank, what the hell do you do...would you like me to ask the banking commissioner to advise you of your job description? The next week, my husband went to the drive-up window..CASHED his check in small denominations, then handed the teller back the cash, and said...'Now, deposit it"....hehehe. They're out there! We did change banks.
  6. Love that morning smoker cartoon...I think I must kill off a half a pack while lingering over 2-3 cups of tea, trying to shake the cloudy remnants of my arthritis meds....this is a ritual for me. Anyway, re: the jar washing....When you take a jar out of the case, did you ever notice a soft-ish, oil-like feel to it? During the MFG. process, a glaze is sprayed on the jars. The reason: FINGERPRINTS! They don't want fingerprints on the glassware during packaging, or unpacking and stocking at the stores, the glaze prevents the prints. It rinses off with water. I am afraid that it will have an effect on my candles and labels, and sometimes when I haven't rinsed them, I have trouble getting the wick to fasten securely. For this reason, I DO rinse my jars.
  7. I had seen a recipe..maybe at Bitter Creek?..that used a cheap-grade of alcohol, like Vodka. If you add water to alcohol, of any sort, doesn't it cloud?? Would Witch Hazel cloud? and...wouldn't water cause more of a problem with dispersing and drying? I want to try this soon, so I don't want to mess it up. Thanks, Fern-Marie
  8. Don't you find that the EZ is not a very attractive wax? It kind of concerned me that it looks so dull and unappealing. It DOES have the best hot and cold throw, but man, it's ugly!
  9. [ my dad would make sure us kids had a big fat orange. Yeah, in your stocking. My mom did too. We never understood what the orange thing was about. Now, I know how fortunate we were to have the orange. I wish I appreciated the gesture then, and the history lesson she was trying to teach us, if only for her own memories from childhood. My husband's dad speaks of the same thing, orange in the stocking. Funny. We're in the same country, sometimes we seem worlds apart, but then there's something like an orange and all at once, we're neighbors. Gotta love our America!
  10. Hi Firstlady, I just wanted to tell you, when I read what you wrote my mind just conjured all sorts of images of a family making memories. I just love that you wrote about the kids, now gone. For the first time in weeks, I stopped to 'smell the roses'. Thanks for sharing that, you have no idea how much I needed to be reminded that life is about the good stuff, making memories. Gosh, I miss my mom, but we sure made some memories. Fern-Marie
  11. I have not tried this scent, but now after reading this, I just might. I tried something with a chestnut topnote once, a few years ago, and I thought it was horrid - afraid to try it again.
  12. I don't do soaps, but I sure do enjoy looking! I just love your enthusiasm. Congrats!
  13. Hi Mitch, and Welcome! Don't be scared. We all have been where you are now, some of us still are! Confusion goes with the territory, but rest assured, it is a human emotion...don't worry, you're normal! Starting with a wick sample pack is absolutely the best thing that you can do. It is how I narrowed down the wicks for my candles. Move at your own pace, when you feel comfortable with what you have created - move up to another size jar and wick testing. This isn't a race, it's a craft, and for the sake of safety, you must, you MUST test, and learn, and test, and learn at the pace best for you. Otherwise, you will not build up the confidence you need in yourself or your product. If you do not feel comfortable, safe, and pleased with what you have created, start over. Ask your husband to go through the creating process for one candle with you. He will understand. I went through the same thing. My husband thought that all we do is pour wax in a jar, stick a wick in it, and voila, InstaCandle! Remind him that you are JOB TRAINING! There are a lot of very experienced and knowledgeable ppl here on this board. You can rely on them to steer you in the right direction. Best wishes to you and your success. Fern-Marie
  14. Now, who'd have thought that you were into faeries? lol Anyway, Mommie, just a word of caution TARTS is a registered trade mark of Yankme Candles...their legal beagles will get their panties in a bunch, and you will receive a 'cease and desist'. I like the immediate, visual appearance of the site.
  15. Good Grief! I need to get my nose out of the candle pot and get out more! Now, I have to see them up close and personal!
  16. I hear you loud and clear! For the past month, every candle I make, with the exception of the 4 oz jj, has gotten sink holes and air pockets right next to the wick....every single one...this didn't happen to me EVER! I used to come on here and read about them, and not know what ppl were talking about. I know now! MISERABLE! I wish you all the luck in the world, believe me. Fern-Marie
  17. What a neat idea! Very cute. Funny, no matter what the situation, we always have candle making on the brain. No dessert, make candles! Works for me. :smiley2:
  18. Welcome, I look forward to hearing more of your successful results.
  19. Cute, D! lmao :tiptoe: you are so bad! I use wick stick-ums too, sometimes, when I feel brave...SILICONE GLUE! ...be sure to get the glue gun that goes with it or prepare to do an awful lot of 'splainin! You need to give it time to set before pouring, so stick-ums are usually best. still lmao!
  20. Don't over use...don't let glass get too hot, it may break. Protect your wick, I usually aim towards the wall of the glass, away from the wick...don't worry, the heat spreads quickly. You almost never need the higher setting, especially if you are just smoothing the tops. Keep the heat gun moving..back and forth, up and down..don't "park it" in one area, go back over an area if you need to, but give the heat a chance to work. If your wick burns or ignites...go back and read my warnings again! Just be careful, use common sense and you will do fine. Any problems, and there is always someone here to help. Have a good holiday, and remember to thank your dad!
  21. I'm the same way. I much prefer baked scents in my kitchen. I like that we can do so much all year 'round...sure keeps it interesting.
  22. You are all so talented. I love looking at the pillars you post. You all make me feel proud to be associated with such talented people. Thank you for the inspiration. ahhhh....maybe some day......
  23. Boy am I glad you asked that question, and I am glad that I am not the only wierdo who likes off season fragrances all year round! I absolutely LOVE the Pumpkin Spice, and can definitely see me using that one year round. I had two ppl ask me for Lilac, of all things. Lilac. Who would believe.
