  1. Hi Fern, I use the warmer for candles I made in 8 oz jars, they are the small, squared off, mason jars...the only ones left at Wally World last week. Works great, and fits perfectly on the plate. It takes about 40 minutes to get a throw...not bad. I just love the concept of no flame, and great scent.
  2. Ahh-haaa! There you are! Thought you were trying to duck me! I should warn you, I am one of those ppl who gets into trouble just standing still...it runs in the family. A caulking gun, is he kidding! He really thinks that I can work that thing, I have news for him. I am probably going to have to pop the bottom off the stupid tube to get the glue out...IF, I can figure out how to detatch the stupid gun! I'm not doing it with him home - that's for sure!
  3. Ok, just one question on this: I had a situation a few days ago where the sink hole was really deep, and next to the wicks. I realized that I had heated the wax hotter than normal, usually at 155, and I went up to 170. So, I doubled back and tried to recreate the 155 deg perfection, unfortunately, happened again. So, I poured it a lot cooler, like 115. I also poured close to the wick...just to see what would happen. I think there are sink holes, but hard to tell as they only went down about a half an inch. Now, that I could zap, but they have been burning for a couple of hours, and seem to be burning fine. If the hole was deeper, as before, what then? I reheated the jars with the sink holes, and guess what...it did it worse. My fear is that there would be a hole, and it wouldn't be visible from the top or sides. What do you think? Thank you for the help.
  4. Hi Daniedb, Please help, I think I did something wrong... Ok, so the hubby came home and I asked him about the silicone. He told me that I had some in my crate of home stuff...it's a big caulking thing, ya know to do around the doors and windows. He says, yes, that acts as a glue. So, I got it, handed it to him to open..he sliced it with a knife and handed it to me. I brought it back to my kitchen, held out a wick tab, and squeezed. The freakin' bottom popped off, not knowing what to do, and not wanting to look like an idiot, as if that were going to be avoidable, I dabbed a bit on the wick tab, and stuck it in a jar...the proceeded to try to wash it off...everything. I practically had to stand on the stupid bottom to get it back in the tube. Handed back to the hubby and thanked him. I tried to quietly walk away, like I knew what I was doing...:tiptoe: ...no go. Then, he showed me where the caulking gun was. Yeah, this would have helped. I thought it was just a biiiig squeezy tube of glue. Is this the stuff you meant? and does it come in a smaller size? and how long does it take for this stuff to set if ppl use it for wick tabs? Thought I would practice with wick tabs before I turned myself loose on some poor glass fishies. Thanks for helping me out with the info. Sorry I screwed it up.
  5. Hi LynnS, I am not sure exactly what your question is. The embeds in any candle being lit or heated with a warmer should always be glass....was that what you were asking? If you are interested, I can direct you to some of the suppliers I used. I have tons of glass embeds, and I have some little fishbowls that I just picked up at Wally World, I am definitely going to try this. One question...WHAT IS SILICONE GLUE, AND WHERE DO I GET IT?? Thanks
  6. I'm going to go back to Wally World one more time....I dread it, but I'll do what I have to do. I would love for it to be that easy. I looked and looked twice. One more time.
  7. Don't despair. I just started a couple of months ago, and it was not until this week when I got the wick problem resolved, and now the boogers are getting air holes and sink holes, and cracks. So, I went back to my original notes, and found that I was heating the soy to no higher than 160, dropped in one dye chip, stir slowly, and added the FO when the temp dropped just below the flash point of that particular fragrance. I thought that was what I was supposed to do, since I did that with gel candles. Now, I hope that I am back on my feet with this thing. I will know in a couple of days....did this today...so far so good though. I am trying, like you, but get frustrated with it. It is ticking me off that I did something different after all that work and frustration with the wicks. grrrr!! It is like a battle of wills, and you just have to keep pressing. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, and you do the same for me!
  8. Hello Idaho, I have not tried the ones from Jo-Ann's. Do you know if they are the actual "Cozy Warmer" Brand such as the ones sold at Michael's, or is it a different brand? Do you know how much they are? Thanks for the info.
  9. Hi, Ditto here...I cannot find them at Wal-Mart either. The only ones that I had were the Cozy Up and Aroma Warmer, otherwise, believe me, I would have tested them along side of these two. I think that I would have been inclined to trust the Wal-Mart product. At Wal-Mart, they have those coasters and hot plates, it's a boxed item, all different pics on them. Sandstone is what they are made of. That is what I had and used them. I think that the warmers are a great idea, for all of the obvious reasons. We just have to find safe ones so as not to bring on the risk of further liabilities to ourselves. Because, you know that as a seller of candles, people will trust you as the 'professional' who should know what is good. There is that unspoken trust...and here-in is your/our legal responsibility. YOU are assuming liability. I am sticking with it. I love the warmers, and have been asking everyone I know with kids, pets, and disabilities what they think of this product/idea...everyone is really positive...they can't wait to try it. I spoke with my 75 year old aunt last nite, she is blind, and is thrilled at this idea - she didn't even know warmers were in the world. Uncle won't let her light a candle - she already set the kitchen on fire once!
  10. You are entirely welcome. You know, when I shut if off, the button was so hot-on the Cozy Warmer, it burnt my thumb. Are these ppl kidding? They have to know this thing is bad. I feel badly for ppl who have purchased them. I'm glad that I got them from Lakeside when I handed them out as gifts..phew! I just wish I could find the ones I saw on line for $4.00 Candles and Supplies has the ceramic ones for $6.99...everyone else is selling them for $15-$20. Order early from Lakeside, they are slow shipping. A great site for shopping! Best Wishes
  11. Hi Everyone, Here are the results of the tests on the candle warmers: Cozy Warmer from Michael's: After 3 hours, inside pool is 160 degrees, underside is 125 degrees. The plastic sides of the plate, on top, felt too hot to me, I had a hard time handling it. I burnt my fingers. Aroma Warmer from Lakeside Collections: After 7 hours, inside pool is 163 degrees, underside is 115 degrees. The plastic sides of the plate, on top, did not feel hot, and I did not fear a burn when I touched it. A full 10 degrees difference is fairly significent. Especially taking into consideration the amount of time that each plate was on. I find it a bit alarming. I looked up the Cozy Warmer info on the Michael's website, it states that the inside pool reaches a comfortable 154 degrees, it was at this temp after two hours, but you can see what a difference one hour made. It is hot. In my opinion, too hot, and kind of makes the 'safer around kids and pets' theory... moot. I will be returning mine...all 10.
  12. Hi Fern, Those are about the prettiest pillars I think I have ever seen anyone make. Congratulations! Just gorgeous. Are they hard to make? How long have you been making them? I'm still working on wicking 8 oz jelly jars, but when I see what you have done I think 'maybe some day'. topofmurrayhill is conducting a contest to re-create BBB mottled pillar candle, are you joining in? You should. Anyway, thank you for sharing, very inspiring.
  13. Yes, definitely. I am going to get it running right now. I will give it 2-3 hours, if I feel brave enough, and will get back asap. Pretty scary, isn't it. See how you can get into trouble just standing still! I'm going to put a hot plate under it, for safeties sake.
  14. Hi, I just wanted to add: I have had my warmer on for about an hour and a half now. This is in fact one that I got at Lakeside Collection last Christmas. The melt pool temp. is 160 degrees, the underside is warm but not burn your hand hot. I set mine on a ceramic plate holder just in case. I got 10 of those warmers at Michael's just Saturday. I will test them. I may return anyway, It is too scary to think that it could malfunction and do damage to person or property. I will be sure to tell them why I am returning them, very clearly.
  15. Hi, I got several of them last Christmas at an online site, www.lakeside.com for $4.95 But I did a search awhile ago, and did see some online for $4.00, I can't remember where. Someone on the forum said that they got them at Wal-Mart, I could not find them. There is also a place online called Candle Warmers Etc. at: www.candlewarmer.com , they are looking for Wholesalers, if you are interested in taking it to that level. You would not believe how far they have come with these, some hold the whole candle jar, apothecary style, and in ceramic. They are nice looking. There must be a market, or they would not be investing into so many different styles. I am seriously considering it myself. Good Luck
  16. Hi, I just did a search at Jo-Ann Fabrics, they have it. It's $4.19 for the can of Gloss, there is a Matte variation as well for $5.00 Re: the husband, today is our 9th Anniversary. He just came home-can't work due to heavy rains and strong winds-wished me a Happy Anniversary, and says, hey, I have something to show you....get this, since he got out of work early, he did some deer scouting in the woods, and found all kinds of fresh poop...so, he took pics of this with his camera phone, and couldn't wait to show me...Yippee. My heart is just all aflutter. Most women would expect flowers?? Not me, I guess I'll just have to settle for pics of deer poop..and a really nice dinner!! lol Love is grand....and I'm telling his mother.
  17. Phew!! You just sent me into 'alarm' mode. Mine has been on since five o'clock. Just checked it, it is not hot on the bottom. I hate to say, but I read in this forum awhile ago that some ppl had problems with them catching fire....? Hard to believe that Michael's is still carrying them if there is a liability question. Return it, tell them it is over heating. I would not want to take the chance. Best Wishes.
  18. Hi Henry, I saw that site a couple of months ago, but at that time I was a bit overwhelmed, and I didn't completely understand it. Now, I am going to use it as a jumping off point. I do think that I like the smaller flame, will have to test some to get a feel for it. The RRD's did not perform as well in the EZ Soy as the do in the CBA2. Thanks:)
  19. I just checked the stuff I used when I my wedding centerpieces. It's called CLEAR ACRYLIC GLASS SEALER. What I did was use a gold metalic paint marker, write our names and wedding date, then sprayed over it with this sealer. It works really well, and is holding yet, 9 years later. Now, the trick to it is, if you spray it on a cold jar, or spray it on and then chill the glass..it will frost. I found this out the hard way when I asked my husband to help with the spraying, and he set the glass in the window, it was cold, and they frosted. It says it will frost on the can. He comes from a long line of sufferers of never-read-directions-itis. It will work, and it lasts.
  20. Thank You, Henry. I just made a batch of the Christmas Cedar, I like it very much. I have the Mistletoe as well, I think it smells wonderful - I'll do that one tomorrow. I did not know that the wick trimmer was a bad idea for the initial cut... I do now, thanks for that. I will most definitely not use this tool at the beginning. I cannot believe the damage that this thing could do. I nearly ditched my wax and wicks. Good grief! You are right, it smashed the wick, but I thought that by smoothing it out, that would solve that problem...wrong. I have not added any additives as of yet, I have not found the need to...or I am not knowledgeable enough to know yet that I need to...I'm really trying to get this down pat, and will do whatever I need to do. I'll get there. I like the look of the CBA2, and I really want to do well with it. The tops are beautiful. I did notice that the LX wicks burn large-flamed, I am glad that you mentioned it. I thought that I was doing something wrong. One more worry put to rest. You are an enormous help, I thank you.
  21. Well, I'll be dipped. Had to blow the 1/4" trimmed wick out, again, after an hour it was starting to do the same thing. I trimmed it to 1/8", and it stabilized. I burned for 4 hours, not a split, and it self-trimmed...who'd-a-thunk. I think I am going to toss the wick trimmer. My Fiskar scissors did the job much better. I will have to be sure to stress this to any potential customers, or gift recipients. I thank you. I am retracting that other stuff! Go ahead JoyofSoy, and give it a whirl - oh, and make sure you trim to 1/8"!!
  22. Hi, I just saw your post, and just happened to have been snooping around the other day, and saw these very jars....with lids. www.jarstore.com I channel surfed the other night, and saw these being sold on QVC, by a candle co. called Cape Cod Candles(??)...and wondered where the maker/owner got them. One note...they were double-wicked because of the width. Good Luck
  23. OK, I got my best cutting sheers, reached down, trimmed 1 wick to 1/4"-nice and clean; and another candle wick to 1/8"-also a nice, clean cut. These are the 8oz quilted jelly jars. The 4 oz jellies with the rrd wicks are doing well. Just for the record, I counted at least 6 threads with fat, black carbon heads on one of the wicks. I will give it another go, what the heck, I've come this far. I will let you know how it turns out. The LX 22's, tunneled down 1/2" and went out...tried to re-light, but it did the same thing..it did not do this with the EZ Soy. I knew within seconds of lighting it that it was not right. Thanks again.
  24. Hello Henry and Kaybee Henry, I have been reading your posts for two months, following your lead, taking notes. YOU are the reason I chose the products I did. Love your stuff. I even e-mailed Candle Science about using an additive to my CBA2, because I read that you were helped by using an additive. Mike told me that I did not need it with this type. The info you both provide is really helpful. I bought a candle wick trimmer, when that didn't work, I would trim and smooth the wick end. I thought about the possibility that I got a bum batch of wicks, so, I ordered more from Lone Star (which is when I ordered the wick trimmer), I originally got them from Candle Science. I tried the Cinnamon Stick fragrance from Candle Science. I am getting a lousy throw as well, or I have a severe case of candle nose....I have been hard at work. I'm not giving up without a fight. I am going to try the Hot Apple Pie, and Christmas Cedar tomorrow. The Hot Apple Pie did very well in the EZ Soy I tried. It wasn't until I got the CBA2 that everything went steadily down hill. What a disaster! Not having any problems with votives or tealights. My most recent disasters were with Apple Cinnamon and Pumpkin Spice from NG. Also tried Home Sweet Home, lousy throw on this one too. I am getting, virtually, no cold throw and I have tried at least 7 fragrances. I am dumb-founded, did gel candles for awhile, never, ever, saw anything like this. Should I give up on this soy, and try C3? I wanted a nicer looking candle than that which I get from EZ soy. Thank you both for your helpful suggestions.
