  1. This was made with some leftovers (scented Honeysuckle) of 4045H.
  2. The wax was on sale recently for $43/case. I got another case before the sale was over. I have a spare room in my apartment and you can use the kitchen to make candles- it hardly gets used for cooking. LOL
  3. Made with 4045H. Red- scented Amish Harvest. Blue- unscented Mottled purple- Honeysuckle Click on the thumbnail to enlarge.
  4. I have two Presto pots- one with a valve and one without. I put the valve in myself, but don't use it any more. I either pick it up and pour into a pouring pot or use a ladle and scoop out what I need.
  5. Thanks everybody. I haven't had any ambition to do anything for a while. At least one thing that I did came out like I planned.
  6. Finally got one to turn out as planned. Made with 4045H. I've seemed to have lost what little creativity that I had. Lately I've been discouraged by alot of things-including candlemaking. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge.
  7. I've tried HTP 93, 104 and 105 in 3" dia. pillars with this wax, but for me, it seems that the wick has to be kept trimmed pretty short in order to avoid a high flame with the 104 and 105. 93 seemed too small. 30 ply fb works the best for me. I have found some differences in flat braid wicks from various suppliers. Even though they might be the same size, the burn rate could be a little different. Hope this helps.
  8. Thanks everybody. I'm taking a break from candle making- need to concentrate on something that has to be done before it's too late. I might have waited too long. I have a bad feeling about it.:lipsrseal
  9. This was made with 4045H. No scent, mineral oil, or additives other than 3 tbs/lb. of stearic. Several times I left a little wax harden in my Presto, and noticed it was mottling without any scent added. Uncolored wax also mottled. Thought I'd see if it would happen in a mold. This is the only candle I've made in the last several months. I thought either FO or mineral oil had to be added to get mottling. Guess I was wrong-as usual. I haven't posted for a long time. You never know, I might not post again for a while. :undecided
  10. Made with 4045H, 1 tbs. of stearic and 7/8 oz. Honeysuckle oil in 11 oz. of wax. I know that's alot of scent- I usually use 1 oz/lb. Didn't have any sweating with this much oil. Got to love this wax!
  11. Great job! My first several attempts at marbled pillars didn't look nearly as good as yours. Keep up the good work. :highfive:
  12. Try cooling it in a water bath. That should make the candle smooth and glossy. It works for me. Hope this helps.
  13. I have the solution to your problem, but you'll have to wait until this fall (if all goes well). Julie (Scented) knows what I'm talking about.
  14. I haven't been in a creative mood lately. Decided to start messing with wax again. Made with 4045H and scented Honeysuckle.
  15. Thanks. Only burned it for a few hours. It has great cold and hot throw. I have to keep it in two plastic bags- how appropriate. LOL. Wouldn't want the police breaking down my door.
  16. Unfortunately, it's been a long time since I've had the real thing . I don't know if it is an authentic scent. It sure is strong!
  17. Made this one months ago with 4045H and scented Peaks Mary Jane.
  18. I made one out of sheetmetal stove pipe. LOL. Soldered the seam, and soldered the pipe to a piece of flat steel. No leaks! It's 5" dia.x 16" high.
  19. Wow! Very nice. Your mom will love them. Did the "thang" help you make them?
  20. A 3/8 NPT pipe tap will work with 3/8 NPT fittings. When you're looking for fittings to add a pour spout to your Presto, make sure they're all marked 3/8 NPT (National Pipe Taper). They will not interchange with SAE or any other threads. If you use a tap for regular bolt threads it won't work. A tap for pipe fittings makes tapered threads. Confused yet? It's possible your package was marked wrong. It's quite a pain trying to find stuff in the home improvement stores. The products are always mixed up. Some people look at things and don't care if they put them back where they found them. Hope you can find the right combination of fittings.
  21. Make a pillar and burn it for 12 hours, then measure how far down it has burnt (measure it before lighting). Crimp a piece of small metal tubing on the wick at the place where you would like it to extinguish. Of course you will have to use the same wax formulation and FO (if desired) as the test candle. Hope this helps.
  22. I bought some molds on EBay years ago, and they have the rubber grommet in the wick holes. I still use putty on the base of the wick pin on those just to be safe. I prefer the seamless aluminum molds, but the steel sheetmetal ones can give a smoother finish.
  23. Yeah, it's a strong one! Out of curiosity I bought a sample size of it a little while ago. Made a pillar and it took a few days to get rid of the smell. LOL. I even put the candle in a plastic bag right after unmolding it.
  24. I use a paint strainer. Cheese cloth works too, but a strainer is my choice.
  25. Welcome to the board. You probably won't get much scent throw from a scented taper- the melt pool is very small. Would be a shame to waste your FO's/EO's.
