  1. Until recently I only used zinc in this wax. The main reason I am trying other things right now is the mushroom. I really hate it and wanted to see what my other options were and how they did..
  2. Anyone order anything from here yet and receive it? Any OOB reviews yet? I think I am going to order a few samples and am curious.
  3. This is great advice and a great way to look at it. I think the harder we try to make a better candle -the more frustrating it becomes. You'll get it. I am still fighting with those silly mushrooms!Ugh. Hate them. BTW if it makes you feel better you probably are being hard on yourself as well. Just today a friend reminded me of how she loved my candles even before I put all the energy in to making them that much better.
  4. This! My biggest mistake early on was not buying sample packs and buying full packs of wicks that ended up not working.and this...
  5. I am sure melting a bunch of times affects the wax somewhat but I usually melt my testers a few times. I figure even though it may change I should get a pretty good idea about what will work and I always pour a new candle once I think I have it figured out and burn that one all the way down just to make sure.
  6. Not much help probably as I am not sure about the straight waffle scent. I know BCN has granny's pie crust that might work though. They also have a country berry hotcakes (more fruity though) It's not the same but it is kind of in line with wildberry mousse from CS and berry creme brulee from MC.
  7. I may have to try moonworks at some point too. Sounds like it's a favorite here.
  8. I need to place a CS order anyway so I'll try those. I recently poured the blue agave but haven't burned it yet. It smells really nice cold though.
  9. Anyone have an orange dye you love. I usually use liquid. My current orange seems to have a lot of yellow in it. I just tried ky's orange flakes. Like them. More of a halloween orange. I also recently purchased CS orange redi glow chips. Haven't tried that yet. I am looking for both a true orange for orange vanilla and a brighter orange for coco mango. The best I have done so far is a mixture of liquid orange and the ky flakes together.
  10. Thanks. Just looked. That looks nice. The summer breeze looks like it would be good too.
  11. Thanks to you all helping me figure out that fluorescent dye chips clog the wicks (which explains why I couldn't wick rain water properly). I mainly use liquid dyes. I would really like some fun colors though for things such as a bright orange for cooc mango, a pretty bright blue, bright pink and maybe even a lime. I love the looks of some of the bright candles I have see for certain scents. Just not sure the best way to achieve this.
  12. I agree. The cold throw I smell more honey. When I burn it though I definitely pick up on a lot of the lavender.
  13. I am glad I posted the question. That explains why I am having such a hard time wicking that container. Glad I didn't buy but one cotainer of this stuff! Anyone have any suggestions on what to use for vibrant colors? I am thinking like a fun orange for coco mango and maybe a fun blue color. I'll probably post a new thread about this!
  14. Rainwater from CS is giving me fits and I know it can't be a heavy fo. I have to go quite a bit higher on my wick size with this f/o and the flame always looks like it's going to drown out. I even re-poured it with another batch because I thought I screwed up. I did use a fluorescent blue dye chip with this FO though. I am going to pour it without dye tomorrow and see what happens. I normally use liquid dye. Have you guys experienced this. Does this happen to you when you use dye chips? Or maybe it's the fluorescent dye chip or just the brand I am using!
  15. I also have to agree that some hang up is okay-especially with the cube shape. I found that if I let it go it catches up on the second half of the jar.
  16. Funny. I ended up buying some and pouring it about a week ago and burned mine last night. I agree. I like it:yay:
  17. I did a search and it seems like cleancut might be slightly favored. I do like the packaging of wickman and the lower wholesale minimum. Any thoughts on what you guys like best?
  18. I feel your pain. I am experiencing this with one of my little containers too. I get very little soot with my wider mouth containers but the little libbey cube is giving me fits. I will say that a wider mouth jar is easier to work with in terms of soot but I understand wanting to make something work. Esecially if you have a lot of them. I don't get much soot unitl the end of my container too and it frustrates me to no end. I am testing the low smoke zinc in it right now and it seems to be burning cleaner but it's not at the bottom yet. I'll be testing two other wick types that I just poured last night so I'll keep you updated if I find one that works for me in a smaller diameter container. I use a parasoy blend too.
  19. I am testing this jar myself. I don't use your wax or wick so I am probably not much help. Although I just tried an HTP in the smaller libbey cube and I know nothing about HTP so this should be interesting! I use a parasoy with extra soy added in and finally decided that I like the 14 ounce cube double wicked with 2 cd 6's for most fo's. Didn't like the flame and soot with a bigger single cd or single zinc. Double wicking with zinc was actually creating more soot than the cd's which surprised me. I also found that the fragrances that I used dye chips seemed to burn slower/hang up more than the liquid dyes. At least it seems to be working out that way. Hopeuflly someone else will chime in.
  20. I was just thinking the same thing and wondering what wax they are using and what wicks! I am getting ready to pour some more tonight with htp's and lx's. Still burning the zinc down to see how it's going to do at the bottom of the jar. The frustrating part is I don't get the soot until the last part of the jar. The cd seemed to be the one until I got down there and saw that black soot on the side.
  21. I think they are very similar. I thougth the millcreek berry creme brulee has a little stronger hot throw though.
  22. I am not a big Patchouli lover myself but recently poured Patchouli Honey from Elements and thought it was really nice.
  23. Thanks for the feedback. I didn't trim the wicks until the end just to see how they would do if not trimmed by customers. I have been out of town for a couple of days but will keep trying. I have the zinc wick in the other cube that I'll continue to burn tomorrow to see how that does.
  24. Just had a random question I wanted to ask. I have heard people that have made candles for many years say they can't smell them much anymore. Do you guys find this true? I understand candle nose and know that happens but I am just wondering about long term. The main reason I started making candles was because I love them. I would hate to think that I will eventually not be able to smell them and appreciate them one day.
  25. I'll second rain water from cs. I also like their honeysuckle jasmine. I ordered a sample of the gardenia but don't have it in wax yet. Edited to add that I like Olive Blossom from Elements as well. None of these are too heavy for me. I used to not be a big floral lover myself but definitely can appreciate them more now.
