  1. I have a bunch of samples but haven't tested all of them. The ones that I put in wax are Rain water sage and pomegranate very vanilla lavender honeysuckle jasmine white tea and berries I really like the rain water a lot and the white tea and berries was very nice. I not a huge fan of the "tea" scents but of the few I have tried I really do think this one is a good one. OOB I really like cranberry marmalade streudel and spice pumpkin souflee caremelized pralines I have heard that wildberry mousse and millcreeks berry creme brulee are very similar if not the same and I loved the smell of mc's version so I can see why CS gets good reviews on theirs.
  2. Welcome Nate! You'll get a lot of great information here. There is a lot more to making candles than I realized but it is fun and rewarding. I think you are off to a great start.
  3. Me too! Thankfully I had someone teach me the basics but I never realized how much there was to it.
  4. Thanks. I was thinking along those lines too. Yellow or orange. Love to hear more feedback if anyone has any other color impressions when you hear "energy"
  5. I recently ordered Energy from Bramble Berry. I really, really like it! I am curious what color you guys think of when you here the word energy? Here's the description: Energy:A stimulating blend of Citrus, including Grapefruit, Lemon and Lime, with hints of fresh Cucumber and Jasmine, and a touch of Pineapple, Blackberry and Champagne
  6. It's rewarding in one sense when you feel like you master something but I feel like I keep making it harder on myself by trying new things!:embarasse Always on the search for the best candle right! I have never played with cd's so it will be interesting to see how it all works out and what I think. Even though everyone's wax, wicks, containers, yada, yada, yada is different it always helps me to look at someone else's process to get a starting point. I was pretty sure some of what I tried was going to be way off but just had to try it. Stella I don't know much about cdn other than they use a special chemical process on the wick. Do you have any insight on why it might be advantageous to use these over straight cd's. Just curious. And yes I can GUARANTEE YOU that there is no lavender being teseted at my house at this point. Only once I am 99% sure I have an idea of what's going to work.
  7. I am currently testing cd's after reading more about them. I "thought" I was happy with the zincs and had those figured out. Now I just opened a new can of trouble. I wanted to test the cdn's as well but JBN is out of the smaller sizes and can't do the sample packs for another week or two. I know there are a couple of more suppliers but I really hate to pay shipping for just wicks so I think I'll test with CD's first and if I am happy then I'll test the cdn's. I am testing using 6006 with 15% ezsoy added in. I am using Sissie's sugar cookie from BCS and using the high end for fo load since I do have some that I like that I think need a liitle extra fo and wanted to test them at my max amount. Very minimal liquid dye added. I know this wax is now a hybrid with the extra ezsoy added in. I am testing 3 containers. the 7.5 inch libbey cube, the 14 oz libbey cube and the 11 oz tureen. The 20 oz tureen is next on mylist. I know each fragrance will be different and I haven't burned it all the way down yet which will be the true test as I mainly want to see how hot it gets at the bottom half of the container. Here are my initial thoughts. On the 7.5 inch cube I tested zinc 51-32, cd 16, cd 14, cd12 and cd 10. I thought the cd 14 was the one. I then added the cd 12 and cd 10. I haven't let the cd 10 and cd 12 burn as long yet but I actually think the cd 10 might work which is surprising me. The 14 oz cube I tried cd20, cd 18, cd 16 and zinc 51-32, and double wicked it with 44-32 and am just now double wicked it with cd5 (I have never tried this one so no idea how hot this will get). I like the cd16 the best so far out of all that I tried. But once again I have only tested it for about 6 hours. I'll have to keep burning to see what I think. The 11 oz tureen. I double wicked it with zinc 44-20, zinc 44-32, cd 8, cd 10 and cd 12. The cd 12 was too big. the zinc 44-20 strugled to stay alive, the zinc 44-32, cd 8 and cd 10 all seem to be doing about the same which is stumping me. The cd's have a nicer flame than the zinc though. I haven't tried single wicking this container because I really think it's going to take two wicks. I don't really like big wicks. They seem to produce bigger flames and more soot. Anyway I still have a lot more burning to do on all of these containers but thought I would share what I am seeing so far. I also can't help but wonder on the containers I am liking the best if it's because I did a better job of centering the wicks by twisting them. The one thing I don't like about the cd's that I like better with the zinc is that it seems like when you blow them out the cd's smoke a lot more. I always test this as I feel like people are more likely to do this than dip the wicks. This is just a starting point to get a feel for what I "think" will work in each container. However once I think I have a general feel for the wicks I'll test each fragrance individually. Edited to add that the 11 oz tureen is 3 1/4 diameter, the 7.5 oz cube is 2.5 and the 14 oz cube is 3 1/4.
  8. Thanks again for all the replies. I have made notes and plan to add a few samples on to my orders from some of these suppliers. I am really interested in trying sockmoneky's out but I can't get to her yet as I haven't been here for quite a month yet so maybe someone can help me "find" her. I can't access the classifieds and don't have pm access yet either. I also want to order the Manuka Lavender from elements to try. It sounds like it might be the best of both worlds for me. I am just seriously kicking myself for not adding it to my order this week. I was that close to doing it. Just to order one little samle doesn't make since. I am sure I'll like some of what I ordered samples of though so I can always order it later.
  9. Well I bought 8 ounces of it to try since it got such great reviews. I am going to pour some more tonight and see what I think. I originally poured it in a 11 oz tureen double wicked with 2 zinc 44's. I have been playing with the cd's so I'll pour that tonight to see how it throws after it cures for a few days. I also use the 6006 with a 15% ezsoy mixed in. I am also going to let a couple friends burn the one I poured at 1.5 oz/lb and see what they think. I am starting to think I have candle nose from pouring too much lately. I know DS gets good reviews too and the forbidden pomegranate was awesome and throws like crazy but a few of the others I burned I didn't smell too much. I think my nose needs a break!
  10. It's because you are branding yourself and you want it to be "perfect". Such a hard decision to make!
  11. You start opening your empty jars and smelling them! Seriously. I have a problem!:laugh2:
  12. You know I was that close to adding that to my order but hadn't heard much about it so passed. Now I wish I had added it. I'll try it next time though as it sounds nice...especially after hearing your review.
  13. I am putting them in candles. I put all 3 of them in a small container just to test. The cold throw on all 3 seems pretty nice so far and it hasn't been quite 24 hours. I don't use straight soy though. 6006 with a little extra ezsoy. I'll let you know what I think once I burn them in a few days.
  14. Lots of good feedback here. I'll add these to my list to try when I order from the different suppliers! I'll look sockmonkey up and see about ordering some from her as well. I love the forbidden pomegranate form DS and plan to test a few of the othes I poured last week tonight so I'll most likely be ordering some more from there in the the next day or two and will have to try the clementine lavender as that sounds really nice!
  15. I went ahead and ordered the one from BC because I know I love that one but I'll still try out the other suggestions. Thanks for taking the time to reply!
  16. I have some Olive Blossom from BC and really like it. I just ordered a sample from Elements to try but it hasn't shipped yet. Anyone try both and have an opinion. I need to order a couple of things from BCN today and need to get the order in so don't want to wait to try my new sample. I am trying to decide if I should go ahead and add some olive blossom from BC since I am getting low or if I should hold out because I might like Elements version better. So if anyone has tried both I'd love to hear how they compare. I use 6006 with a little extra ezsoy.
  17. I hadn't thought about mixing it with linen. I'll have to try that too and see what I think.
  18. I love the pretty colors and love the lavendar/vanilla look. Very nice!
  19. Okay mzpickles...you enabled me. I ordered some pistachio panache from the ebay seller you recommended. Can't wait to try it out.
  20. I am thinking it's not a good thing that he is so observant these days!:rolleyes2 He tells on me way too much! I actually was looking at your soap and the red currant and thyme tea sugar soap sounds and looks so yummy. Maybe I'll have to buy some from you! I ADORE cp soap. One day I hope to try my hand at it. Too many things I want to do and just not enough time! Btw I ordered some of the Daystar forbidden pomegranate and put it in wax a few days ago and it smells super strong and yummy! If you ever order from there you should pick up some to try. I am thinking it might be good in soap since it's strong.
  21. I was just thinking about all the FO I have tried recently. I have a problem and was wondering if there was a FOHO anonymous group!:laugh2:Of course I am not really in the closet about it. In fact my oldest son called me out tonight when he told my husband that 2 delivery trucks came to the house today! My husband told him to tell him more about this.....
  22. They look great! What a great feeling. Way to go. I may actually be interested in ordering one myself. My dad is retired AF and that would look nice with all of his memorabila.
  23. mzpickle sorry to enable you!:laugh2:I am actually really excited to try these. I was going to order last night and got distracted so I'll check them both out tonight. I am actually really excited about it. Did you like the LM cream you ordered. I never would have thought I would have liked that by I think it smells heavenly?
  24. I meant to say I think lavender has a "bite" to it. I seem to make so many typos when I post! Thanks for the feedback. I have actually read good things about sockmonkeys oil. I think I find her in the classifieds right? I haven't been on here quite a month yet so once I am "qualified" I'll have to look her up!
