  1. It seems like people used to like them but due to some reforumlatting on their part they aren't as popular. I had thought about trying their mexican vanilla, coconut lime verbena, havanna nights and a couple others. Anyone still using them?
  2. Thanks for the tips. I actually tried the added soy last night and must say I am pleased with the results. I haven't tested them yet but the appearance as far as sink holes looks better. I even poured one with straight 6006 to do a side by side comparison and I could tell a difference. I still want to post pictures. I have a new computer and haven't loaded everything up on here yet. I am hoping to share tomorrow.
  3. Ravens I don't have much too add about the scents you tried. I do have NG's lick me all over being shipped to me now and plan to try it next week once I receive it. However for what it's work I use 6006 and the 11 oz tureen with two 44-32-18z. It does well other than it may be melting too fast. Great hot throw and little to no soot. I think it may still be burning a little too hot though as it gets a good melt pool in the first hour. So my suggestion in your 8 oz tureen would be to not use more than the 44-32 if you double wick. Just telling you this because I always love to hear people's input when I am trying to wick something new. I am trying the CD's out tomorrow to see how they compare with the zinc.
  4. FO is much more exciting these days. Who needs new shoes, clothes... I love nice FO!
  5. Stella thanks for always being so helpful. This is what I figured I should do. This is how I measure my FO (except I use glass). The tare feature works well.
  6. Okay I took photos. Just need to upload them tonight when I have more time.
  7. I curently use 6006 and have read some good tips on here about doing 85% 6006 and 15% soy to help with the sink hole issue. I have a little Ezsoy from BC that I thought I would play with. My question because I never have worked with soy is what is the best way to measure it? I looked on here without much success but maybe I am not using the right key words. I currently just lay a piece of was on my scale and measure my 6006 directly. Since the Ezsoy is flakes do I put it in a container and tare the scale with my empy container? This is probably stupid but this is my best guess on the proper way to measure it- right?
  8. I definitely do that. I have a bag labeled with the different sizes. If I find a stray I toss it just to make sure I don't screw up!
  9. So I called AAA. No 11 ounce containers with black lids. Just gold. They do have the black lids in at least one of the sizes though.
  10. Stella I need to do that. I have my clippings I have been saving and keep meaning to pick up some tabs. It will be like having a whole new supply if I finally do that! Thanks for the suggestion. I am going to take pics in the am in the natural light. Not working too well at night with the flash.
  11. Stella I'll see if I can figure out how to load a picture! I am technically challenged that way but agree a picture would help. candles4ever: I actually just posted tonight about cd wicks with this wax and a good starting point for my containers. I am definitely going to try it out.
  12. I couldn't remember where that chart was so that is helpful. I appreciate it! The only thing that I am trying to figure out is that the CD 22 seems so big. I am wondering if two smaller ones might be a better option.
  13. A couple more qustions regarding 6006. For those that use this do you always get nice creamy smooth tops or do you get crackling or uneven color discoloration on top? I have used this for quite some time and it seems like I always have had nice tops just had to fight the sink hole issue occasionally. Lately I seem to be having problems with this. It seems like my tops don't look nice and smooth anymore. I can't figure out if something is going on with this case of wax or if the colder weather is causing problems for me. They aren't really "cracking" but they do have color variations that makes it not look nice and pretty and creamy. I even have been covering with a box. I pour around 170-180 so I don't think I am pouring at the wrong temp. Just for the heck of it I pulled out some onld Taylored replacement 30/70 wax I had. (70% paraffin/20% soy and 10% petro) They compare this to the 6006 but I can tell it's sligthly different. These candles look beautiful. Nice and creamy, beautiful coloring and no sink holes. Even made me think about switching to it. However I am test burning two candles exactly the same except for one has the Taylored wax and one has 6006. While the Taylored one is performing well enough I think the 6006 is giving off a slightly better HT. The 6006 is burning faster though and reached full melt pool faster. So I think if I can ever get my wicking figured out so that I am satisfied with it I'll try the 85% 6006 and 15% ezsoy tip and see how that works out. If anyone has any experience or suggestions with the top appearance thought I would appreciate it. I am not even getting much in the way of wet spots. Just this crazy top situation.
  14. Okay this may be too many questions for one post but here goes. Let me start by saying that for the most part I am happy with my current choice of wax and wicking. I have been using 6006 (nothing added to it although I think I might try the 85% 6006 and 15% ezsoy once I get this figured out) and zinc wicks. I am happy with the zinc wicks EXCEPT for the mushroom. They aren't even bad on some of my candles but I keep mine trimmed. So I am trying a couple of new things. I have orders for the WU lower smoke zinc wicks and am picking up some CDN's this weekend. In the meantime I want to play with the CD's. I want to see how they burn, mushroom etc. in comparison. I have a sample pack of CD's so I only have 5 each to play with and would love some advice on where to start. I currently am testing on 11 and 20 oz tureens. So the diameters are 3 1/4 and 3 3/4 respectively. With the zinc wicks I double wick both of these. Do I do that with the cd's or do I try a single wick. With only 5 of each to play with I'll run out fast if I totally screw this up. I can always buy more but am lost as to where to start. Do you think I should double wick them with a cd 8 to start. I have tried to read as much as I could to figure this out but am so lost because as you know there are so many variables: wax, container, fo, dye, wicks. Everyone uses different things so I am not even sure where to start. Is there a chart that compares zinc and cd's? I know candlescience has a chart but they don't have zincs listed so I can't compare there. So just to re-cap: 6006/6-10% FO depending on type/ small amount of dye. 3 1/4 and 3 3/4 diameter tureen containers. Thanks!
  15. Bugtussle just saw your post. I'll call tomorrow and see what he says. I am going to be in Dallas this weekend so that would be very convenient! Thanks for the tip. I'll see what they say.
  16. Candlelady: I actually called and talked to them about it a week or two ago and they said they have never had them in the 11 oz size. So weird. It seems like everyone that carries them has them in a couple of sizes but I have yet to find the 11 oz. Too bad because I have that jar down but really dislike the gold lid. Maybe someone will eventually bring it in if we ask enough! Thank you for the suggestion though!
  17. I have been looking for these for awhile myself with no luck. It's the 89 mm lug and all I can find is gold! Ugh.
  18. Thanks mzpickles. I have no idea if I'll even get close but thought it was worth a try!
  19. Thanks for responding. That does help. It sounds like the Ile Fottaine might work or at least be a good starting point.
  20. Beautiful soap. I'd buy it just for the way it looks! I'll bet it smells heavenly!
  21. I know Daystar has ile flotante which has pistachio in it and backwoods has a pistachio dream cake. Anyone know of any other pistachio scents? It seems like Daystar had a pistachio ice cream but I don't see it anymore. I absolutely adore Laura Mercier's creme de pistache souffle body cream. I just don't adore the $50 price tag! I would like to try to create a candle in this fragrance (I think she actually has a candle that goes with it too) and maybe eventually a b&b product. The description on the box says it contains creamy pistachio nuts combined with almond, praline and hazelnut with freshly whipped cream. So my question is if anyone has tried either of these two do you think they would be in this category and blend well with some of these other fragrances. I saw that someone has a pistachio pineapple pie or something like that and I don't think that would go well. If anyone knows of another pistachio fo that I might be missing please share!
  22. You guys really are determined to make me try every birthday cake fo aren't you? I actually am trying a lot of new things so I think I'll be buying samples from most of these places so I'll just have to test them all out! Carol good to know that you like MC since I should have that one any day now. I also want to try the frosted lime cupcake after reading so many good things about it. Thanks for the heads up about the OOB smell. I have a few that definitely are wonderful in wax and not OOB so I know not to judge it this way but it sometimes means I try those later rather than sooner. So now I know to try this one out soon! Grama and rustic thanks for your input too. I'll add both of those on to my samples I try.
  23. I have read good things about DS too. I have tried BCN and Peaks and I prefer the BCN version of the two.
  24. I should edit this to add that I use 6006. I also just found an old canlde that I poured with BCS scratch cake and never burned. It actually smells pretty good. Not sure if it's a birthday cake but it does smell good.
