  1. I haven't tried much from there but I love their energy and relaxing. Both are on their best seller list too. The relaxing doesn't have as strong of a ht throw as energy but it's a nice scent that appeals to both men and women. My husband actually asked me to make a car air freshner for him with this scent and he never says much about my candles or FO's. I am sure it's mental but the relaxing actually does make me feel relaxed. If you do order I would love to hear feedback on what you pick up. I'd love to try some others from there.
  2. Honestly I think people just don't notice those things. I never really did until I started making candles. I have to agree there are a lot of candles out there that have wet spots, yucky tops and aren't pretty at all but still sell. Actually made me feel better about my candles. I used to buy lots of those candles years ago. Not too impressed with them anymore though. Haven't bought one in years so I don't even honestly know how well they really smelled to be honest.
  3. I could use some feedback here if you guys don't mind. I have been testing the 7.5 oz libbey cube for a little while now. I seem to have found what wick size works for most of the fragrances I am testing in this container but now that I think I have that down I am now finding that I am getting soot on one side of my container when it gets a little below the half way mark on the container (closer to the 1/4 of the candle remaining). My variables are that I use 6006 ( 70% paraffin and 30% soy) and then I add an extra 15% soy to this mix. I am currently testing CD wicks. I really don't think I am overwicking this container and the soot isn't noticeable as it's burning. I am finding that a CD 10 works best on most of my fragrances with some of them needing a bigger size (like my vanillas). If I use anything smaller the flame is drowning out and I am getting a lot of wax left behind- Hang up and tunneling. The cd 10 still hangs up a little but it evens out towards the 3rd or 4th burn. For those of you that aren't familiar with this container it's 2 3/4 across and 3 inches tall. I am testing the WU 210 low smoke zinc wick in it right now but it will take a couple of days before I get down to the bottom to see what that does. I really hate the mushrooms on the zinc wicks which is why I would like something esle. JBN is out of the CDN's in the sizes I would need/want to test. I know someone else carries them so I may just order from somewhere else this week to see if a CDN behaves any differently. I think with this container being the size it is a cotton wick won't be rigid enough but maybe I am way off base on that. I guess what I am asking is has anyone successfully wicked this container? Am I most likely going to get soot on this container no matter what wick I use due to it being a smaller opening it's an oxygen consumption issue down at the bottom which makes the flame get bigger and dance around more. Up to this point I have always used wider mouthed containers. Mainly tureens. I know the only way to be sure is to test all my options which I will do but I am trying to decide if I should give up on this container or if I should keep trying. I like the size and style of it but not used to seeing a big black soot spot on one side. I will say that I did not trim the wick for testing purposes because I like to see how it will do for those people that don't trim wicks. It seems like more don't than do. So for grins I trimmed the wicks on two of them, cleaned the soot off of the one side and re-lit. After an hour no soot yet but I have a feeling it will eventually show back up. If you have read this far...thank you!:tiptoe:
  4. This little cube is going to be the end of me.:pI tested the butt naked almost all the way down with the cd 10. I am at the last 1/4 of the jar and it has about an inch of wax in it. The last hour I burned it the side of the jar is getting a fair amount of black soot. I really don't think it's overwicked as it always leaves a little hang up in the corners but is continuing to burn down. My next plan of attack is to try some different wicks. I am going to see if JBN ever got the CDN's back in and I'll most likely try a couple other types as well. I am test burning another FO in this same container with a cd 10 as well just to see if it does the same thing. I'll burn that one over the weekend. I am not used to seeing soot like this on my containers so I don't like this at all.
  5. Never tried it but I think KY has one and it gets good recvies on here when I was searching their FO's.
  6. I think it's brand new. They have a facebook you know what going on right now and I ordered it as part of a special pack. It shipped yesterday so I can give you my reviews once I get it.
  7. I find it interesting. I know this is why we all have to test our own containers with our wax, wicks, fo and so forth. I am finding that so far the 7.5 oz cube the cd 10 works well on most of them. With NG butt naked it gets pretty hot at the bottom though. With BC olive blossom it seems to be doing well so far but haven't burned it all the way down yet. DS forbidden pomegranate is leaving a little wax hang up on the side sitll on the 3rd burn so I'll probably end up bumping this up to a CD 12. I will burn it more though just to make sure. CS rainwater is confusing me. I thought it might be doing okay and better than my original tester but the flame is prety low and I am afraid it's going to dye out. After 2 hours I have a nice circular melt though. Definitely no full melt pool yet. Which I don't want yet either. I'll be interested to see how this one does. I may end up bumping this up to a cd 12. The 14 oz cube is it's own monster. I haven't burned any of those all the way down yet. A couple of the fragrances seem to be doing pretty good with a cd16. Some not as well. I don't like the big cd's as much due to sooting so I may try to double wick this one even though it's not my first choice. I tried two cd 8's and it was too hot. I poured two cd 6's to see what that does. I'll keep testing and let you know what I find. Just curious what everyone else was finding with these containers even though I know all our variables are different.
  8. Okay I obviously didn't wick this tester properly. I pulled what I had out and put in new wiks and they seem to be doing okay. Makes more sense. I knew this couldn't be a wick up fragrance.
  9. April I haven't ordered much from Starville but here Creme Brulee gets good reviews. I also ordered their high maintenance and like that one. If they are close enough you should pick up some sample sizes of things you think you would like and test them out. I learned the hard way that it's more cost effective to try samples out before you buy the big sizes!
  10. Okay now I am confused about this container. Did everyone that responded to this thread use these wicks in the 7.5 oz (smaller cube) like the original poster. Or did some of these mean the larger 12 oz cube? The only reason I ask is that I have been testing this for a couple of weeks now and am finding that I am needing a smaller wick than you guys. I use 6006 with an extra 15 % soy. I realize that soy will burn differently than what I use. Just curious if it makes that much of a difference. I only ask because I don't work with 100% soy so I don't know. I am testing it with NG butt naked and I thought the cd 10 was the wick for this fragrance as it seemed to be the best but it gets pretty hot towards the bottom with a pretty big flame. I just poured some more tonight with cd 8 to see if that would be better.
  11. Sounds good. I order from Uline too. I also meant to say site and not sight in my earlier post. Ugh!
  12. Welcome April! It is very fun and this board is wonderful. I have only recently found it and already consider it such a valuable resource!
  13. Yes I agree. I love their FO sale! I also agree that unless you really want to make votives that containers might be easier to play with until you get a little more comfortable. But if you want to make votives by all means you should just research it and go for it.
  14. I obvioulsy don't know her but it sounds like she's an honest person that found her calling. That's actually kind of refreshing.
  15. Here are a couple of links to get you started: http://www.craftserver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50047&highlight=golden+444+temperature http://www.craftserver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18176&highlight=golden+444+temperature http://www.craftserver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40888&highlight=golden+444+temperature Sometimes I have a hard time with the search feature depending on what I am looking for. However I have found a ton of good info. on this forum. I am sure if you do a search on "votives" you'll find some help their too if you get frustrated. Sorry I can't be more help in that department.
  16. I really don't know the wax you are using and they are all a little different but I find for me personally using a parasoy blend that adding the FO at a higher temperature works well for me. I heat the wax to the recommended temperature the I add my dye and fragrance oil into my pour pot.
  17. Candle science has good fragrance oils so you're on the right track! It's really a lot of trial and error to find what works best for you but hopefully some of the suggestions Judy gave you will help.
  18. I am really loving NG's Butt Naked, Coco Mango and Monkey Farts (Although I really want to try Bert's when it comes back in stock) Pomegranate, watermelon CS, . Melons like CS Honeydew melon. I think florals do well. I like CS Rainwater a lot. I also agree with Peaks Ocean and my new fav is ICS cactus and sea salt.
  19. Vicky- thank you for responding. I am new to using cd's so the tip about making sure the flat part faces each other is a great one! I vaguely remember reading something about that but didn't remember what to do. I am going to pour some candles in just a bit and I plan to use some smaller wicks to see what happens and will implement some of your suggestions. Thanks again!
  20. Well thank you! I can't believe the sight is tealightboxes.com. Makes me feel really stupid! I did try the search feature but didn't pull much up on here and I obviously didn't do a very good google search!
  21. I don't use your wax and don't make votives but I also wanted to throw out there that some fragrances are stronger than others. Some just won't work in the wax you use. Also with soy wax you really need to let them cure for about a week to get a nice scent from them. The other thing to think about is that while some fragrances can fill a room up in a votive size...not all will if they aren't a strong thrower. What fragrance did you use?
  22. I gave my son's teachers each a candle at Christmas and they really liked them and another teacher asked me today if I could make her some tea-lights. I have the supplies to make tea-lights and can give her some but I think I would eventually like to make some of these. For now I'll just give her some in a cello bag and it would be a gift. I have a couple of ideas for packaging. Either the tea light tubes from bittercreek or I like the clear tuck boxes with a ribbon around it or label. However I don't know where to find them. I tried to do a basic search. Papermart seems to have some of these things but I am not sure what size would work. Anyone have any suggestions for me. I checked WSP and it didn't look like they had them.
  23. Sharon I tried the NG dreamsickle and did smell the fuel smell. I have heard GenWax mentioned a couple of times though so I may have to give them a try. I have never ordered from them so I should look and see what other items are good to try from there! I may just need to stick with the OV from CMS as it does work. Just a little expensive.
  24. These are adorable. What a great job. I am sure they smell even better! I agree that I would love to get something like this as a hostess gift!
