  1. Hmm, I'll have to go do a sniff test. Is there a fruity smell to that one too? Cherry? I think my blend might be more patch.....off to sniff Angel
  2. I saw that post...didn't have time to reply though and somebody already gave my answer lol Thats the kind of the swirl I got with the first batch. What I did was pour at thick trace in a vertical mold, just each color on each side, didn't move it. Then used the handle of the spoon to get the circular swirl. I don't have any pics of that batch though do'h
  3. At first, when I first mixed the "eos" they are all very separate scents. If you let it sit in the bottle for a few months, it becomes one scent all its own, I think it smells really good. I couldn't put the bottle down
  4. Thanks Its good to hear nice things after your 8 yr old walks out "OH, what stinks mom??" It really does smell good! Well, right now it has that odd smell cocoa does when you soap it, but that goes away with a good cure...or mostly. I made a batch of this before and didn't think anybody would want it. I put it on my site on sale and people bought it up so fast and have been asking for it ever since I first created it for valentines day...chocolate and patchouli are supposed to be aphrodisiacs lol Oh, and the swirlies were total luck! I just poured, moved, shook and dumped the soap in the molds LOL I poured it into 2 vertical molds so I didn't have a whole lot of control and just hoped for the best.
  5. This is my Chocopatchouli soap scented with Patchouli EO, Cocoa Absolute, and just a touch of Vanilla Oleoresin, the dark part has cocoa powder. This one was HARD to wait so I could cut it.....it came out with so many different swirls, even from one side of a bar to the other its different It was a 5 lb batch split between two molds. soap ends... tried to get all the various swirls in one shot...didn't do too good lol edited to add one more pic....the other view...
  6. I tried searching, but didn't turn up much... I have an EO blend I want to test as a bug spray. I would like to make a preservative free bug spray using distillate as the base. Would this work? As far as I know, they contain alcohol that acts as the preservative right? If I really need to use something, I will go with suprapein...I just don't want to because it smells so bad lol I also read that someone suggested keeping distillates in the fridge. Is this necessary? I hope not, because I haven't been.... Last question, would rose distillate be a bad choice? I wouldn't want to choose something that attracts the bugs lol I could probably go with lavender distillate (for one its cheaper ), the EO blend has lavender in it. Thanks!
  7. I'm using a silicone mold to make a rose shaped candle with IGI 4625. So far unsented, little bit of dye. I'm having major bubble issues. I've tried warming the silicone mold, but I'm not sure how hot they can be warmed to. Is there a wax I can add that will help with the bubbles? I've got ecosoya vb, IGI 4627, Micro 180, IGI 4630A, and IGI 1554. I don't have any additives like vybar though.... Also, if anyone can share some tips on doing a repour, that would be great. I'm not usually a pillar maker but I'm doing this for my sister...new ground for me
  8. Thats what I was just coming here to say! I got red candle dye on my favorite lazy day shirt...you know those huge mens shirts? lol Well, I soaked the spot with cooking oil and scrubbed with dawn - came right now. Should the grease have stained - all you do is take some wd40 spray it on the grease and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then scrub that with dish soap. Works everytime It sounds scary at first...but it works. The first time I tried it, I spilled about 1/2 cup of cooking oil on a brand new pair luckys (pricey jeans ) - I was sooo scared of messing those up worse lol
  9. That does make sense! Thats how I did it with the paper I used before. This paper doesn't seem to want to slide as easy though. I think maybe if I slid it slightly off the backing while its still in the water, as you say, it might work. With the paper before, I put the whole thing, backing and decal, on the candle and the backing slid out from behind it very very smoothly and easily. I've got a few sheets left out of my 10 pack lol Maybe I'll try it again...
  10. When I tried embedding the image, I was using 1554 w/micro - I can't remember the ratio though. Thats what I'm using now too....I'm just not sure I want to try it again lol Oh, it was soooo frustrating for me before - I didn't give up quickly either I'll probably try it again. I really do like the decals though....at least, the ones I used before (they were pinted with a laser printer). Maybe inkjet vs laser makes the difference....
  11. I've tried the embedded picture several times - everytime the wax was way thick over part of it, and some parts of the picture had no wax at all.
  12. I've used the waterslide decals before - found Yaley brand at Hobby Lobby a long time ago and it worked great. A while back I ordered some from Bel Inc. I got the inkjet type because I didn't have my laser then. This stuff is HORRIBLE. Either that or I'm just that clumsy. Does anybody have any tips? I've wasted about 4 pieces of paper so far. Every single one the picture got stretch marks lol I don't know how else to explain it....its like the it crinkled and stretched and messed the picture up. This is driving me insane. Is it just inkjet type? Is the laser type this difficult too? My friends mom just passed away and I'm trying to make her a memorial hurricane.
  13. Is JS Just Scent? I've heard the name before...but never been to the site. I think I might give Natures Garden a go - I order from there for other scents. They've got the BEST Blackberry Sage I have ever smelled - perfect dupe for the Pier 1 candle I had a long time ago Thanks for the suggestions everyone
  14. I have never smelled this so I have no clue what it should smell like. Does anyone have any suggestions for the closest dupe?
  15. This is actually centerpieces for a wedding. So I'm looking to pay no more than maybe $2 a piece if possible lol I know Hobby Lobby sells those ivy bowls for .88 cents a piece...but the opening isn't very wide - I may have to just make it work though...
  16. I'm looking for some glassware that are good for putting floating candles in. I need to find it as cheap as possible too...anybody have any suggestions?
  17. I thought I bought our Safeway out of red devil, cleaned the shelf. Later we went back and there were 8 more. So I thought score, and bought those - for sure those would be the last. Now they restocked again - at least 10 of them. But I have bulk lye being shipped so I didn't bother buying them...
  18. I don't have a ton of experience at making soap...but I've heard a lot of people say that cocoa butter soaps nicely, so if shea is low on your list, you might like cocoa. Although, shea is great for eczema - if you get some, you could also make a body butter/balm for your hubby's dry skin.
  19. If she used the Aloe Vera Gel 1:1 (the liquidy "gel") from FNWL, she will need to preserve it
  20. Not sure what aloe product you're using, but it its water based you'll need an emulsifier to get the oils/butters to mix with the aloe. I've also seen "aloe oil" (aloe leaves macerated in soybean oil)...not sure what you've got...
  21. Yeah, I'll be sure not to put any product containing water in there.... I dunno...maybe it was just the candlemaker in me thinking I had to seal them lol Now that I think about it, they don't need to be sealed to put body butters or lotion bars and stuff like that....right?
  22. I know people use tins with seams for candles and just seal them up with modge podge, is there something that can be done for b&b? Do you think it would be ok to simply clean them out and just put the body butter (what have you) in - they won't be melted like wax...hopefully lol
  23. (goodness, what is with this "at least 10 characters" thing....doodly doodly doo...that should do it lol)
  24. anyone know of any news articles online talking about burts mislabeling?
