  1. I've been looking for a natural preservative...but I've read its quite odoriferous lol. Who uses it and what do you think about it?
  2. How do you go about listing ingredients when one of your ingredients has several itself?....like a preservative...
  3. Ok, I've been brainstorming... Maybe I could make a cream base and sell it as a "make your own natural lotion" kit...the customer could add as much distilled water as needed for the consistency they want. Natures Garden has something like this. They would ideally make it up in very small batches and store extra in the fridge if necessary. Now I'm off to research emulsifying ingredients...I've never used any lol If anyone has any sites to share with me that might be helpful, I'd appreciate it Or just suggestions on making a base that will later emulsify in water...
  4. Hmm, I don't think the aloe would work for what I'm going for since its prone to growing nasties. I'm trying to create a more lotion/cream like moisturizer without using water so that I won't have to use preservative. I'm working on whipped body butters and I love them - its just sometimes, like you said, you want something a little less heavy.
  5. Is this even plausible? I'm thinking there might be a non-water substitute for the water portion of a recipe. Any ideas?
  6. THANK YOU! Those links are great! I especially like the last one because its all sitting there ready for me to buy lol
  7. Thought I should mention...I'm looking for colorants for both cp soap and bath and body products
  8. I'm ISO of natural colorants. I've been searching and I've come across a few things here and there...mostly herbs to infuse oils with that impart color. If anyone can give me the names of a few stores that carry natural colorants, I'd appreciate it
  9. Thats actually what I'm doing too I got a bunch of clamshells from the co-op...now I just need something to put in them lol
  10. I've never really made tarts much (I have mixed soft & hard waxes, but didn't like it)....any suggetions on what wax to use? I was thinking a soy pillar blend, but would that hold enough FO? I want something that REALLY knocks your socks off (who doesnt lol). Is there a soy votive blend thats great for tarts?
  11. What exactly are these? Do they contain dyes to get that color? I'm trying to stay away from synthetic dyes and only use colorant from nature. These have such pretty colors! I'd love to be able to use them, but I just don't understand exactly what they are. I tried using beet root powder - the instructions said it can be added directly to soap...well, it certainly can, if you're going for the poo look LOL It was truly ugly soap, I'll have to post some pics
  12. Actually, FNWL does have it all on one page in their library http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com/library/carrieroilprofiles.asp And here's a few more...most is just repeat info, but there might be some difference between the sites... http://www.mortarandpestle.net/ingredients.html http://www.soapnuts.com/indexoils.html http://www.soapnuts.com/snspecialoils.html
  13. Sorry, as a newbie myself I can't offer much about the recipe.. ...but I read in a thread not too long ago that more than 1% stearic would give you soap on a stick...
  14. I have a LOT of oils/butters being delivered today...and I'm not quite sure what needs to be refrigerated. So... which butters and oils do you keep in the fridge? I have a mini-fridge just for my oils, but I doubt they'll all fit...
  15. nevermind...found the info.. just to let everyone know, I found Roebic Crystal Drain Opener from Lowes - its 100% sodium hydroxide and its pretty much the same price as Red Devil, and comes in a 2lb container
  16. www.specialtybottle.com has those too
  17. I've also read that stearic acid is an additive that can be used - maybe I'll give it a try before I buy the sodium lactate (although..the sodium lactate sounds like something I may use of other things as well ) I was thinking that the difference is in the texture when it sets in the mold. When your pour liquid soap in the mold with cp, there is no air space in there....but when you have to plop cphp soap in, there's bound to be some air space. I was thinking maybe that was it...
  18. Does cp generally produce harder bars? I used the same recipe in cp and cphp and my cphp bars arent hardening up very fast.
  19. Oh, I saw a pic of that in the gallery - your jars look really cute! What brand or style were they? We don't have a Staples, but I'm hoping I can find it at Office Max - if not, they'll order what I need
  20. Are there labels that are truly clear for inkjet printers? I ordered some once and they were sort of frosty...not the look I was going for. If not, I'd even be willing to take my sheets elsewhere and have the printed on a laser printer... ..but they have to be REALLY clear anyone know of any?
  21. Thats the same company I was looking into Although, I don't think I live anywhere near them (I don't live anywhere near anybody lol). That would be great if you could pick them up
  22. I'm sure its not..but the different types of coconut confuse me I've heard of coconut 76 degree, virgin coconut cream/oil, and fractionated coconut. Too much coconut in soap recipes can be drying right? Is it any coconut? Or just one type? Any other differences between the different coconut oils?
