  1. If she had deposited checks, but didn't know if yours was one of them, she obviously didn't check names against accounts to bring people's rent etc up to date. You definitely need to see what is going on with her bookkeeping.
  2. I got my solar salt at Lowe's. If you do a search on here I know this subject was discussed in depth a few years ago. I think the thread got to be like 15 pages! Lots of reading.
  3. Nope. Been doing this for years and always get mouse turds. What I started doing was putting my lavender buds in a small chopper and turning them into a lavender dust then mixing that into my bath salts.
  4. I wouldn't care who they were. If I got a rude e mail like that, I would just accept I got screwed over by the other company and not order from the new one. Their customer service seems to be exactly the same.
  5. Apparently their customer service and their ability to keep supplies in stock is becoming an issue.
  6. IMO, you can't go wrong with Anne Watson's Smart Soapmaking, Susan Miller Cavitch's Soapmaker's Companion, or Alicia Grosso's The Everything Soapmaking Book. But just like anything, double check your recipes through a soap calc, because typos can and do happen. Also, Sandy Maine has some nice books, she only uses one soap recipe (crisco, olive and coconut) and the oils are easy to find. And the pictures in her books are lovely.
  7. What Starr said. I use my silicone for soaps and candles, just not food.
  8. I wouldn't do newspaper. The print ink would smudge and be messy.
  9. None of the dupes out there are affiliated with the company that started the fragrance. So to say "Lovespell by VS added, 15 ml", you are eluding to the fact that VS has something to do with the making of your product. That is a big no no.
  10. Most craft stores offer them in the cake decorating aisle
  11. Yeah, this is nothing new. The big red flag(s) is when you're contacted by e mail instead of through your site and the horrendous use of the English language. I believe I've heard they are usually using stolen credit card numbers? To see if they'll work? Hell, maybe I'm getting two different scams mixed up. There are so many now.
  12. Our yearly soaper's gathering has had Debbie May (Wholesale Supplies Plus) and Kelly Bloom (Southern Soapers) answer this question. The name, for instance Love Spell, is owned by Victoria's Secret. You cannot use that name. You can, however, come up with your own name and say that it "compares to Love Spell". That way your customers know it's a dupe, but you aren't infringing on any ownership rights. Putting the word "type" behind the name doesn't protect you. Something Kelly mentioned which I hadn't even thought about is that by renaming dupes, you are branding your own line. Why would you want to have a soap named "Love Spell" when a bazillion other soapers do too. But don't even think about using Love Potion...there is a lady on the internet that will track you to the ends of the earth to prove she's trademarked that phrase.
  13. It's got to be the thick glass bottoms that are causing uneven cooling.
  14. Hahaha, good luck with that. You know that NEVER works.
  15. I bet that mom who had the melt and pour soap party for her son and got sued by another mom because she claimed the soap caused a rash on her child wasn't thinking about getting sued either. It's not always deep pockets. Some people can't wait to fling out the phrase, "My lawyer will be hearing about this!"
  16. Know your labeling rules per the FDA. I'm also a believer in liability insurance for anyone who's planning on selling.
  17. I don't mix sugared spruce with anything, either. It's one of my favorite FO's and I make it year 'round, because I LURVE it!
  18. Moonworks "Gaia" is a for sure dirt smell. There are some other notes in there mushroom and moss, but everything is very earthy.
  19. mod podge is good for sticking and coating your decoupage.
  20. Could just be that it is very unusually hot now. I know our heat index has been between 108-112 every day. Can't imagine how hot the post office transportation is.
  21. Pink sugar = brown soap I had a lovely batch of m&p victorian hearts colored with rose clay, scented ps. Turned a really unappealing shade over time.
