  1. I just did a quick "go through" as I am at work, but over all I love the direction your taking the site..... its very easy to navigate, no clutter.... just a very clean professional site..... well done!!:highfive:
  2. I just have a quick question... I want to make some hurricanes and electric grubbies. What is a good, easy to work with hurricane wax? I just want an idea, so I can get to testing....
  3. I have ordered some cello bags from them and I emailed them first and told them that I needed them ASAP.... she emailed back a few days later and said she would have them to me within the week...... and she did.... but for other items I dont know..... you will just have to email her and ask....
  4. absolutely! works great that way.... but if it gets too hot in the car it can melt and run all over the place..... so make sure its in something secure.....
  5. The amount of creosote in a pine cone is so small that you would have to burn several truck loads to cause any major problems..... however burning pine wood is not a good idea...... except in camp fires.
  6. I use the same FO and its awsome.... one of my top sellers.... and it really works well
  7. I have to agree, try 1 FO to start, and mix up maybe 1 or 2 lbs to start with. depending on what size container you are using, the wicks you bought MITE be too big for the smaller containers, but since you didn't mention dimensions, its hard for me to say.... so just use your best judgment. Here are a few tips that work for me: 1. Make sure wick is centered and secure to the bottom of your container 2. Don't add too much coloring to start.... you can always add, but you can not take it back out once its there.. (lesson learned the hard way lol0 3. Most importantly....... JUST HAVE FUN... by this I mean make your candles..... and have fun testing them.... and keep lots of notes... That about wraps it up... good luck!!
  8. I dont use that wax either but I am testing a #2 square braid on the 4" pillars with pretty good success... will keep ya posted
  9. Finishing up a small wholesale order , goin to my youngest son's HS graduation, and on monday, goin on a Poker run motorcycle ride..... gonna be a blast.... somewhere near 350 bikes are expected.... mite post some pics if I get a chance...
  10. I would have to say....... HELL YES!!!! I am doing my own now and its a major PITA..... I cant get anything to come out like I want..... so if its something that is offered I would definately say YES
  11. I am assuming you are using it for credit cards..... so cant help ya on that one... I use ProPay..... it is easy to use and the fee's are reasonable.... sorry I could not be of more help... hopefully some of the others can steer ya in the right direction
  12. I use Kountry Expressions.... she has a great selection and her prices are awsome... just my 2 cents here is her link http://www.kountryexpressions.com
  13. From what I am gathering, web sales are kinda slow for everyone right now.... some sites are doin ok, but those have more than likely been around for a couple of years.... I have had my site since Feb, and sales are definately slow..... but I sort of expected that to happen..anyway, it definately takes alot of work to get your name out there.. good luck
  14. try wiping the outside of your jar where you want the lable with some rubbing alcohol on a rag or papertowel. Sometimes there is a light sheen of oil or something and even tho you wash your jars, it is still there. It seems to work for me.
  15. The wax is a personal choice. I use OK6228, which is also a blend. Some people prefer to use plain waxes so they can controll the additives better. I would stick with the wax your comfortable with to start with, and try different FO's from different suppliers. I use FO's from Nature's Garden, PEAK, BitterCreek , Tri-State, and Tradewinds. I would pick a few from some of these suppliers and try again..... if you still dont like the throw, then try a different wax.... just thought I would put my 2 cents in
  16. I have a links directory on my site and being part of the PrimMart community, I link exchange with other candle sites... and I make sure that my link is there or I delete it.... so far everyone there is real good about being truthful about the exchange.... Its just our way of helping eachother out..... just my 2 cents
  17. yep... what she said. To figure out your costs, you have to factor in the cost of the wax per pound, cost of your FO per oz, cost of your wicks, coloring, containers each, labeling, and labor... then multiply by 3 or 4... that should give you a rough estimate.... then you may have to adjust from there depending on your area. What sells for 10 bucks here may not sell where you are..... just check around your local area and just be comparable without going broke.... GOOD LUCK !
  18. I usually dont say much on here, but I feel I have to on this one. First off, her opening line did lead us to believe that she was relatively new. I agree, you dont have to graduate from candle college to sell, but you also should, and its just my opinion, test and retest for at least 8 months or longer. I am not bashing anyone, but really get tired of seeing everyone get all bent out of shape over these posts. This forum is here for us to help eachother. Jeff did apologize and that should have been the end of it. I can see her point about wanting to get some experience and information. The best way to see about upcoming craft shows is to check thru your local chamber of commerce. Now come on people... chill out... just my 2 cents.
  19. I absolutely think the world of em.... have been with them since Feb of this year and it just keeps getting better.... they client support is awsome, and they keep comin up with more stuff for their clients... I think you would be very pleased with em. Just my 2 cents
  20. When I first started in candles, I also dabbled in the B & B...... the lotion base from Nature's Garden is awsome... everyone that bought it just raved on it.... I personally cant tell ya cause I cant stand the feel of ANY lotion.....(weird huh), but I still have customers asking for it... even tho I have stopped making it..... just my 2 cents worth
  21. I do alot of word of mouth, business card magnets, and the big one is joining top sites, and doing alot of links exchanges... my site is fairly new, but I seem to be generating a decent amount of traffic to the site. I discovered that if you do alot of links exchanges, your chances of getting hit by the search engines increase dramatically. Just a thought there.... anyway, good luck with your site
  22. I dont have any extra, but along with the other suppliers, Tri-State candle supply carries it... sorry I couldnt be of more help
  23. I did my test today and here are my results. 6oz soy flakes .25oz FO (Desire from NG) red dye (shavings from block) I melted this wax and color shavings to 180 degrees. I added FO, and let cool to about 165. I poured into slightly heated molds with wick pins. I let them cool completely, and then removed them from the mold. Positves: The votive sides came out smooth and creamy looking, with an AWSOME cold throw. No sticking to the wick pin or sides of the mold. Negatives: The only negative was the cracking around the top. I made 2 and one of them had a small chip raise up where it met the wick pin, but it pressed down and only left a small line to show where it had been. I am giving this 2 more days to cure then will test burn, so I will add more to this. I will also try to post a pic, but the cracks look just like some of the others that have posted... over all I would say this is gonna be a great wax, but just needs some tweaking.
