I hate anything earthy! I am a sucker for foody scents as long as they don't smell plasticky & my favorite color is green/blue.

  1. You have to make sure you clean the rim with alcohol every time you use a seal & they work great. Might I suggest that you use bayousome.com instead of WSP? IMO, they have better service, prices and Bill is a little guy like us
  2. Every time I see this kind of post I always say the same thing: Have you tried to wash them with soap and water once you're done pouring them? There is some kind of spray that goes onto the finished container that when washed off has no interference with labels. Try that before you go making extra work for yourself.
  3. I am so glad I came to the board to ask this question! It looks like a lot of us didn't know the rules Well, I guess I will have to start saving my pennies for the direct mailers, until then, I will definitely be going to the dry cleaners to ask them if they would help me out
  4. I got a business card from a cleaning company right here in my town. It came with a little piece of paper showing their services - nothing huge, but it really made me look at it because it was actually in my mail (like they put it there?) Now, my question is this...has anyone actually done this in their area? Have you ever went out in the middle of the day/night and put these in mailboxes? Is this legal? I am wondering because I am in a really small community and thinking of doing this myself, but don't want to get in trouble for it. I am just thinking of putting together a small sheet of paper and a coupon for locals - nothing huge really, but wanted to get some feedback to see if any of you have done this. I was looking into direct marketing (which is almost the same thing, but you don't go out and deliver it yourself), but the minimum is 10,000 and I'm not in the position right now to sink $600.00 into something that I "hope" will work. The shop over here is so dead and with all the recent snowfall, everyone is staying away - except for the die hards that HAVE to have their soap lol
  5. Actually, have you tried washing the glass? We make ours, cap them and put them in hot soapy (dawn) water, then dry. The labels never peel (but used to before we started this)
  6. I am in a town of 1,000 and almost every little shop here sells candles. I've counted (in my head) 6 of them and they are not even a block away. I sell B&B items and to my knowledge, there is only two other places in town that do - one is actually selling my things and the other is pretty far out of town next to the interstate. I think I establish myself because everything is actually "made" here and people like to see that. Actually since I've started back working here again, I can't believe the people who come up to the windows and look in at the production area. As for candles, I don't know really. I am a candle person myself and even though I make them, I still buy from other places and online as well. Doesn't seem like I can have enough and I know there are others out there just like me lol
  7. Hmm, maybe I am doing something wrong here, but I have a handful of tarts I made the other day in the ellipso cups, but they will not release for anything! I put one in the freezer overnight and it did finally come out, but I am not sure if I am too keen on telling customers to do the same?? Is anyone using 100% soy in these and getting any success on the release? I am about ready to sell off what I have here (the cups, not the tarts) because they just don't seem to work with the NG 100% soy wax.
  8. Thanks you guys. Since I wasn't here, I can't be too sure, so I am going to go ahead and make some laundry soap - we need more anyway.
  9. I'm in the minority here lol I use meatballers and hate the ornament thingies. They hurt my hands and surprisingly I can make BB's faster using the meatballer than what I can with the ornaments. I can never get them packed tight enough and they crack on me as opposed to the meatballer - they stay together perfectly.
  10. The more I think about this, the more upset I become... As you all know I am back working all by myself at the shop and also at home because it has slowed down considerably. My MIL has finally put in her last day and I can't be happier. However, I've been over here (the shop) since Thursday and I am so mad I could scream. It seems the more I clean, the more things I find that are or were done wrong. Before I go on, I completely blame myself for this as I didn't put enough time in over here. I should have come by more often and stuck my nose in my own business, but with having my first child and really thinking that my MIL knew what she was doing, I let it go too damn long. Ok, anyway - on to the subject. I just unmolded some custom made soap that I discovered had lye pockets in it. Please forgive me, but it has been about 3 years since I even touched a soap pot...Can I rebatch this stuff or is it garbage? I am truly hoping that I can rebatch this. It's not too much, but I hate to see any of it thrown in the trash. I would like to add that I am having a great time over here and getting back into it 100% is something that has really made me happy these last few days. I can't wait to make soap - that is a task that starts on Wednesday (Don't be surprised if you see me posting often until I get back into the swing!! Notes are ok, but soaper friends are better )
  11. Well I put in some hours yesterday and my dad even came over to keep me company lol He is retired and spends most of his time up in Wis, but told me that this year he would like to stick closer to home. Get this, he wants to come over and do work for me lol!! So, I had him wicking tins yesterday and he was literally having a ball. Maybe it won't be so bad once I get in the swing of things. It took me 5 hours just to clean one corner of my shop *yikes*, but I want everything the way I want it now. I can't believe all the things I have stashed away in rubbermaid containers! I think I will be spending some time with my camera to list some things in classies very very soon
  12. Actually, I would recommend she doesn't use a thing at all. I was pretty freaked out when I read all the things that could happen to your breasts, but I used absolutely nothing and never had any problems at all. Normally, you won't have problems if the baby is latching correctly anyway. A site that was really there for me when I needed to ask the craziest questions about breastfeeding is www.breastfeeding.com. They have a message board that is very busy and full of good advice!
  13. I need to vent I think...or something. Ok, so the shop is doing ZERO business. Nada, nothing, zippo - which is about right for this time of year, so it is not too surprising. What is surprising is that my internet business is actually not doing so well either. This time of year just stinks and I've come to the conclusion that I need to get off my can and go back to work 100%. Oh, my MIL quit because I had to cut her hours...kinda makes me mad, but not really - the reign of terror is over I also cut the other girls hours and they are ok with it because they have better jobs anyway. So...I am officially a worker again starting on Thursday (gulp, that is tomorrow!) and I will be working every day now at the shop, then coming home and putting some hours in making bathbombs. I feel like it is 2003 all over again...:embarasse I am not sure why I am writing this really. I guess I need to get some advice on how to "get back into it again". I never really "left" it, but haven't made soap, lotion or anything but bathbombs for 3 years.:lipsrseal I also have to take my sweetie pie over to the shop with me (actually BOTH sweetie pies - hubs and baby) Hubs actually expressed some interest in learning how to do candles and soap a couple weeks ago, so I guess you should always watch out what you wish for. Since our shop is so big (we have the retail, the check out and the production over there), I think I can make a nice little area for Jimmy. He is now 4 months old (holy crap) and likes to sit in the playpen playing with all kinds of things now - which is a change from the "mommy, sit with me all the time and don't do anything but that" phase. Well, I guess my vent is over or question or whatever lol Anyone out there doing it all in the business with a 4 month old and have any advice for me? Good news - the computer has DSL over there so no crappy dial up (Can you tell I am a little out of my mind right now and have no where to turn or what??? lol)
  14. I suggest you do a search on this forum for all the webhosts mentioned here. Nothing helps you out more than people who have "been there, done that & ran away like a tiger was after me"
  15. Congrats! I wanted to give the candlemaker's store a shout out if you wanted to go with the small tins - they have the cheapest around.
