1. Hot Chocolate from KY is outstanding and throws like mad.
2. Couldnt get the lot# off of the case from CS because it was too faded. The lot# off the cases from Peak is 0266929. HTH
3. I personally have not used them, but I have a feeling you will get more responses if you post this question in the "Fragrance Discussion". Lots of good info on oils over there.
4. Steve, The vertical striping/crystal pattern you're seeing in the votives you made was exactly the same pattern I got from the containers. Defintely not crystal or feather but certainly not the GG we are used to either. Major bummer for all involved.
5. I did some more testing with the new batch of wax from CS before I threw it out. I was definately getting some vertical striping in the crystal pattern like the old GG, but it was still filled in with the smaller crystals again. So much so that it was changing the colors of the final product when it set up completely. Every one also had a dip at the top around the wicks and it also pulled away slightly from the glass which had been mentioned previously. I'd love to find out which company refused the shipment of GG recently because I have a sneaky feeling that they ran into the same results we did here and werent happy. I'm having great luck with the GG I ordered from Peak but then again what happens if this is still part of the old batch and they run out as well? Not sure. If this truly is due to variations in the growth of the fruit then we may all be stuck using this new batch/version of GG until they run out. Man I hope not.....
6. Back in business thanks to Peak!!
7. Here is one more shot of the old batch versus the new batch. I used the same percentage of FO and dye in both candles. On a brighter note, I poured a few candles from the couple of cases I received from Peak and they are setting up more like the standard GG we are used to. Lot number on the stuff from Peak is 0266929.
8. Personally I've used several wicks with good results but havent found THE one yet that works in all applications/containers when it comes to GG. For the 9oz Hex I've used a CD or CDN 10-12, CSN 9-12 or Premier 755-770. Had real good luck with each of these; however, the burn and scent throw will vary based on the FO supplier and amount used at least in the testing I've done. For the Status jar I dual wick with 2 CD or CDN 3-5 or the Premier 715-730 with great results. I've found that anything 3" or over I get much more consistant results from dual wicking. As with anything else though you need to find what works best for you in your situation.
9. I'd love to see the pictures of the test results that they are claiming to be the "same". I've poured at a wide temp range into warm and unwarmed containers and have always had a great crystal pattern/set up....until now.
10. Here is the email response that I received from Diane. It looks/sounds similar to those you guys have received as well. "Thank you for sending the pictures. The size of the crystals is different and based on your testing is unfortunately something that can't be adjusted to produce candles that you like." "The palm kernels and oil those produce are affected by the environment while the fruit is growing. The temperatures, nutrients in the soil and amounts of rain and sun all contribute to the end product and vary from one harvest to the next. With palm, beeswax and soy waxes there are several variations that we accept in order to provide the natural products our customers request. There is no guarantee that we won't see variations in crystal sizes in this very unique wax. While synthetic materials can be manipulated to create uniform products, we don't want anything like that done to our natural waxes. I'm sorry to hear that the candles you're making with this batch of wax are too different from the previous batches, but I certainly respect your decision. It's up to you to choose what to provide for your customers." Not real happy about this but if this is the hand that is dealt it's what we will have to play with in order to continue to use the wax. Just have to make some adjustments. Steve, you're right in that it does appear creamier than before and does seem to have a slightly lower melt point. On the bright side, the air pockets I've experience so far are much smaller with this new batch. I'm assuming it's due to the tighter crystal structure?
11. Started burning the test candles I made with the new batch of GG...so far so good. They seem to be burning the same to me. Nice even burn and good scent throw. I used the same wick/FO load combo as I had with the old batch. The only difference so far appears to be the look of the crystalization.
12. I made this for an Iowa Hawkeye fan back home....thought I would share the results.
13. Personally I would go with the glass as it allows one to actually see the wax/color. Nice job on both though.
14. Yup you're correct in that this new CS shipment is all they have. Apparently they tested it back in July before they would accept the shipment and the results were within acceptable standards. I'm not sure exactly what these standards are and the gal on the phone wouldn't fill me in on them. She did say that she would pass the pics I sent to the folks that do the testing for them to see and email the responses back to me on Monday sometime. According to her though, the wax passes as Glass Glow as long as it showed some form of vertical crystal structure forming....which it does it's just not very pronounced and it's also filled in by all these smaller crystals which also makes it harder to see. As I stated earlier though, Peak still has some of the older batch so if you're in need you may want to get with them and place an order before they run out.
