  1. that's awesome! we had a show yesterday that had maybe 200 attend instead of the expected 500-800...but i did over 4 times my booth fee...six times would have been better...but i still did good with another vendor handing out 4 page handouts on the evils of paraffin and gel candles,lol...she had in it that you can tell when a candle is paraffin by the label...if it doesn't say "soy candle" then it isn't....i guess my "soy blend" still sold more than her crap... and with all her asking and insisting that we "network" she still didn't get an ounce of info from me. i think she was telling peeps i didn't really make my products and that i was a rep...whatever! ( i can't start a thread, anyone know why? send a personal message so i don't hijack the thread) i think it's great that you did so well and think of all that exposure and doors that might open as a result!!!!
  2. we whip our butters until they get peaks. or when you scrape off the excess from the beaters, it keeps it's form on top. i think what butters and oils you use, affects the end appearance too...
  3. yes, nylon stockings. and it helps to wear gloves when handling them
  4. i go by weight, not measure; since i weigh my fo.
  5. Heartfelt's Rocky Mountain Pine...a friend gave me a candle in it and i fell in love...i so want it, but i won't order just one fo from a supplier:undecided gotta keep my costs to a min.
  6. yes, like already mentioned...it is based on the old industry standard when the big manufacturers used .5 oz per pound...and of course that could be going on still with a lot of the mass produced candles...so "triple scented" means 1.5 oz. per pound...but the term is used solely for a marketing ploy that "mine is better"...that's it....with most candle making businesses using an increased percentage of fo in their candles..."triple scented" isn't even correct...i would never make a candle scented with 4.5 ounces of fo per pound!
  7. the end texture will depend on what butters/oils you used, and how long you whipped them. i have 2 different blends..one is more like a cross between noxema and a tub of spreadable butter and the other is more like frosting...
  8. these are easy and go over well... cream cheese roll ups 8 oz. softened cream cheese 1/3 cup mayo 1/2 cup pitted green olives, chopped 1 can pitted black oloves, chopped 6 green onions(scallions), chopped 8 flour tortillas 1/2 cup salsa mix together the cream cheese, mayo, black and green olives and green onions. spread on tortillas, roll up, and chill for about an hour. slice into 1" wheels and serve with a bowl of salsa turkey cranberry rollups 8 oz. cream cheese softened romainne lettuce turkey lunch meat, sliced thinly canned cranberry sauce( i like 1/2 jelly/1/2 whole berry 1 package tortillas spread cream cheese on each tortilla, spread a thin layer of cranberry sauce, layer the turkey, then romainne. roll up tightly...cut into 1" wheels. chili cheese dip is always good mix half a block of mexican velveeta with 1/2 package of regular velveeta, add 1 can hormel chili ( no beans)...heat in microwave until the cheese is melted add 1/3 cup sour cream, 1/4 cup salsa, mix well and seerve with tortilla chips mann, now i'm hungry!
  9. BCN's Pineapple Cilantro...i don't get any Cilantro, just crushed pineapple..it's the closest to a Dole Pineapple that i have found...
  10. the LTD catalog had that exact one except it was hunter green and the directions were vagie and i believe in chinese...it was a few years back tho...

  14. we use BCN's HAP and add the Granny's Pie Crust
  15. 1. What was the first candle you made and how did it turn out? a grubby topped votive, it actually turned out better than the one that inspired me,lol! 2. What resources did you use to research candle making? books, and my mom, who made candles while i was growning up. we had just gotten a computer, so i had no idea about message boards, just a few internet supply sources. 3. Did you use dyes and FO on your first? yes 4. Do you have a special room or space you use exclusively for your candle making (basement, garage, etc...), or do you use your kitchen? the kitchen, even though hubby cleared out a big area in the laundry room, i am a creature of habit. 5. Any suggestions on how I should start (maybe what you think is the "easiest" to make)? i was always told container candles, like j-50 or j-223 were the easiest, and they are..to me. 7. If you could only make one type kind of candle for the rest of your life, what would that be? i don't think i could decide between my containers and pillars...i love both 8. What is your ultimate candle, the greatest candle you dream of making (and have not yet)? a big huge floor candle embedded with pot pourri, with cut outs on the top for 3 container candles to fit in.
  16. we found that adding the mineral oil helped the candles release from the molds, by keeping with the same oil content.
  17. that particular line is a para soy blend...but it's the same coloring as in the 100% ez-soy
  18. the dye chips at BC get dark and vibrant colors in the EZ-Soy...here's an example of the autumn orange the only ones i color are the holiday specials...but when i do my initial testing of fo's i color them
  19. 175* for EZ-Soy so the fo fully incorporates into the wax.
