  1. I only use silicone molds for over 11 years now.........yes, I use fragrance in every batch I do (and yes, I've use stearic as well as vybar). The split molds I hold together with a rubber band until the wax is set up and ready to remove....silicone basically "seals" itself, is very forgiving and just a rubber band is plenty enough to hold it together, without even leaving a seam in 99% of my cases.
  2. Ok....this is my first time adding water to a product like this, and you're right....I should add a preservative........can someone tell me what I need to do that...hopefully it's something I have or can find locally, I need to get these done soon. Thanks!!
  3. Ann Marie......I hold you personally responsible for this one lol....you jinxed me by reminding me of all the stupid things I've done over the years.....and now....just yesterday.......yet another lol. Someone said not to squeeze the dye bottle, to use a pin if it didn't come out easily.....sure, that would have been the SMART thing to do, but would have taken time......so, nooooooooo, I decided to squeeze a little harder. I didn't THINK about the end popping off (THEY DO). I have the darkest red batch that is humanly possible......even crayola doesn't have this color!!! LOL Luckily, my candle shop is in the basement, and luckily I had on old clothes but still........dang it!!! Arrrghhhhhhhh
  4. I disagree........after much money wasted, and less than perfect results, I sure have an admiration for "good" mold makers! (Corey, jags and a few others........they are the BEST...and WELL worth the money!!)
  5. I am new to foamers and I have what is probably a stupid question that I didn't see an answer for when searching. I have liquid soap, and I have the ratio down as far soap vs. water.......what I DON'T know.........do most of you scent yours with body safe fos or leave it alone unscented. IF you scent it, any idea how much fo to add for a 6 oz foamer?
  6. Ok, I got it.....but reading the FIRST line of your post, "i have one for critter dipping"... I was nodding and thinking "almost did that once" :embarasse .........oh come on, it wasn't my fault and I didn't DO it!!! lol So, I agree with "lock the pets outside or upstairs or somewhere you aren't". I'm just saying that cat's are NOT graceful!
  7. They're cheaper here! http://duall.com/store/product/list.asp?Opt=sch&Qry=candle%20paint
  8. you are an angel.....thanks so much for the quick replies!!
  9. Thanks so much....one more quick question.......do they even NEED to go in freezer if I keep them in the cool basement....(thats where I work)?
  10. Ok....I'm new to b&b but wanted to try some of these for Christmas gifts. Please if someone can answer these questions, I'd be most grateful. 1) If I use a silicone mold.....do I let them completely dry/cool in the silicone mold.....for how long....hours days weeks? 2) I believe I can color the mixture with skin safe mica's.....when do I add this...before the citric? Can I use soap color liquid as well, or is it best to stick with the mica? Thanks!! Darla
  11. Well thank you very much.......that means alot!!
  12. since you said "thingy" ....i think i know what you mean. lol Go to the bottom of this page........is this it? http://www.howtomakecandles.info/cm_article.asp?ID=CANDL0006 I've also found several taper shapers (just google search) that resemble a pencil sharpener, but you don't heat them.
  13. I've always painted mine....it takes a few coats in order to look right, but worth the effort.
  14. that might work (without the beads of course).....but i've never had a problem with the colors dissolving........worth a shot!
  15. If you "shave" the block or chip, it dissolves the smaller shavings just by stirring, at least in my experience it has........no need for microwave! HTH
  16. You can also use dye chip or block shavings to color.........if you dissolve it in the fo first, then add to the beads. (If you don't have any liquid color on hand). These have to be one of the best things to do with kids I've found yet. Now.....I have about 300 cookie cutter duplicates that I don't need, but I think I have a big selection at least! lol
  17. your link is no good, i don't know which ones you are talking about.
  18. i bought a toaster oven.....just for my ornies........just in case!
  19. I've used the real sprinkles on candles and melts.....they are mostly sugar and just disolve with never a problem in over 8 years. I try not to get them right up against the wick on the candles, but I really don't think that would hurt either, thats just my opinion.
  20. sorry, magnolia, not water lilly.........here's one before the wick was added to give you an idea.....
  21. I have a large lily pad mold, and a large water lilly mold that sits on top, that look beatiful floating in my pond and my pool. I don't put the wick thru the lily pad at all.........the flower is the only candle part, and they work great. (diameter of the lily pad is about 4" I believe). I believe thats a lime on scented's cat head.....musta been a margarita kitty party! lol
  22. Sorry, I was going to try to help you out with a few supplies and pointers.......but there is no way I can by that time frame!
  23. Where do you live........and how long do you have to complete this project?
