Have you tried Apple & Clover from candlescience? This one seems to do well for me. I haven't had much luck with apple type scents in my pure soy until I tried this one. A&C has been rated a 2 leaf for soy performance...IMO, it should be rated a 3 leaf. Edited to say: IMO, Apple & Clover is more of a sweet apple scent, not tart at all and doesn't smell anything like mac apple.

I'm no expert but I think that pouring temps don't effect scent throw, just the finished appearance of the candle.

Sorry to hear that your having trouble. Working with soy is a challenge and wicking it can be a major PITA. It's hard to say what could be going wrong for you because there are so many variables to consider. It sounds like you might be experiencing some variables due to your wicking, dunno, I could be wrong... First, let me ask you this...Have you changed where you are buying your wicks from? If so, wicks can vary from supplier to supplier. I have noticed in my tests that burn results can vary depending on what the wick is primed with. Most wick suppliers will tell you that the coating/priming on the wick makes no difference at all, however, I disagree. In one of my tests, I burned side by side, 415 pure soy tealights with LX wicking, some with an LX8 primed with a 212F high melt point paraffin and some with an LX8 primed with a veggie wax. The tealights with the paraffin coated wicks burned longer, (45 minutes longer) than the tealights with the veggie coated wicks, big difference in my book. I'm no expert but over the past year the one thing that I have noticed is there CAN be a difference in burn results depending on what your wick is primed with. Personally, I no longer trust what different suppliers tell me about what their wicks are primed with and some won't even tell you. I've called the same supplier several times asking about what their wicks are primed with and have gotten different answers, that did it for me, I simply decided to go with raw wicking and prime/tab my own wicks to avoid that possible variable. Some will say that self assembling your own wicking is a PITA and is not worth the time and thats okay, what works for one might not work for another. There are so many variables with soy, you might as well avoid all variables possible to make it a little easier. Please know that these are just my own personal opinions based on my own personal experiences and in no way do I have the experience that a lot of others have on this board. We're all learning and we have to start somewhere. Don't be afraid or intimidated to ask questions. CT is a great resource full of valuable information for candle makers whether you are new or seasoned. Have fun and try not to get discouraged!!!

I can't smell any pumpkin at all in the PS, however, it does smell good. I think it smells more like cinnamon graham crackers or a graham cracker crust. In regards to the hansel and gretels house, to me this one smells like cinnamon buns without the icing, I love it though. Goes to show you how people smell things differently sometimes.

I'm in the same boat, wanting to try some other fo suppliers, (thecandlesource being one of them). I can honestly say that so far my all time favorite fo supplier is Candlescience. I like every one of their scents that I have tried and I've been very successful with HT results in my 415 pure soy.

Thanks for your reply rose, It's nice to hear from others about their success with certain fo's in soy wax. I have a lot of fo's from candlescience that throw awesome in my 415. I'm looking for some new scents and would like to try some from thecandlesource. Cinnamon & Sandalwood sounds good, I'll be trying that one for sure.

Is the place on ebay amditributors? Are these the jars? I checked this place out and sent them a message last night asking them where they get the jars and the lids for these jars. 24 hours later, still no response from them. Maybe they don't want to share how and where they get the jars and lids.

Very well said Stella, Thank you for taking the time to post your opinions and suggestions. I agree, good testing methodology and patience is a crucial part of candle making. It seems when I try to "rush" through making a candle and not really "thinking" about what I am doing, is when I don't achieve the results that I'm looking for. You made a great point with baking a cake and not preparing your ingredients the same way every time. In doing this, your end results will vary. It's important to follow consistent techniques to achieve consistent results.

I make candles and tarts with GB 415 and was just curious about others success with scent throw with the CS fo's in this wax. Thanks to all who reply with any suggestions.

The Dollar Tree store in my little town has these jars from time to time. I got one about 6 months ago (without a lid), have it in my bathroom with potpourri in it. Are you wanting this jar with or without the lid? I think this jar would make a beautiful candle. If my local $ tree gets them in again, maybe I could send you some, if your interested. Good luck finding some that you want, I know what it's like to have your mind set on something until you find it.

Hello and welcome to CT. First, you will want to invest in a scale so that you can accurately weigh and measure out the proper amounts of wax and FO. Accurate measurements are a very important part of candle making. If you didn't receive any info about your type of wax from your wax supplier, don't hesitate to ask them for instructions to help you get started. About your inquiry on FO usage. Decide what size of candle you are wanting to make. Most fo suppliers recommended that you start with 1oz of FO per pound of wax, which would be 6%. You can then go up or down from the 6% starting point. Depending on the scent, you might use anywhere from 3 to 10%. If you are making a 16oz candle, start with FO at 6% (1oz). There is a lot to learn about candle making and you will find that this forum is filled with lots of valuable info. Try not to get discouraged. Read, read, read, test, test, test, and don't hesitate to ask questions, the members at CT are more than happy to help. Hope this helps. Good luck and have fun!!!

Hello and welcome to CT. I use pure soy wax for my candles so I can't recommend a wick for you to use in your type of wax. I'm sure that someone will chime in with some recommendations for you. Have fun!!!

I 4th the cranberry marmalade. Awesome scent!!!! A good holiday or year around scent. Edited to say: Asian amber is also a very nice scent... Soft, woodsy (not floral) and a bit exotic.

I haven't tried CD's yet. CD's are on my list to try next. Have you tried cottons?

It's funny that you mention parasoy. I have a sample of parasoy that I'm tempted to put my time, energy and money into testing. Heck, paraffin will throw just about any fo. I get very discouraged with the 415 until I read about other chandlers success stories with this wax. I feel that if someone else can make it work for them, then I should be able to make it work for me too. Your definitely not alone, hang in there.
