  1. Hi BB. For soy melts, what EO % would be a good starting point?
  2. Hi will. I am currently using the Golden Brands waxes (415/416/444/464). I've had great CT and HT results using this wax with a variety of different fo's when it comes to regular fo's. After residing in my small town for almost 5 years, I finally decided to visit a local little co-op. Come to find out, they carry Aura Cacia EO's, the last thing I need right know is to find something else to test...lol...I thought I'd get my feet wet and try one scent to start with. I love citrus scents so I went with their "Sweet Orange", the one thing I'm concerned about with this scent is the fuel smell that I often get from citrus scents. I know nothing about using EO's in soy wax. I need to start reading to find out what % is a good starting point. Good luck and have fun with your testing!

  5. Hi Kellie and welcome to CT :smiley2: I use several different suppliers for fragrance oils, Peaks being one of them. IMO, Peaks oils seem stronger and more compatible with the wax that I use, which is the Golden Brands Wax. I try to keep variables to a minimum and don't use additives or color. Each individuals results will vary depending on the type of wax, fo, color, additives and wicks being used, heating/pouring temps, climate, etc... TEST, TEST, TEST until you find what works for best for you. Hang in there and have fun!
  6. Another vote for Peaks rose bouquet, smells like a real rose, not fake/perfumey. CAUTION: VERY STRONG...USE SPARINGLY!

  8. Hello, I've been heating the 464 to 175/180, then add scent at 175, (no color), stir, stir, stir, then pour at around 140. I made some tarts with the 464 and raspberry truffle at 6%, cured for 24 hours, placed them in my warmer and they threw like crazy...super strong! So far the CT and HT has been amazing. I also have a 5oz candle curing, it's wicked with a CD16...keeping my fingers crossed.
  9. I pour 464 at around 140...seems to be doing just fine...nice smooth creamy tops.
  10. I just received my samples of 444 and 464. I've been testing the 464 all weekend. I like that I can pour it hotter and get such nice tops. I had too many wicking issues with the 415 so I decided to switch to a different wax. So far the 464 has been much easier to wick than the 415.
  11. I'm a shaker too...I just assume that when liqiud mixures set for any length of time that the contents might separate...shake, shake shake to be sure.
  12. Hi Sharon I feel your frustration. I'm getting some samples of the 444 and 464 from Kris at Gateway. I've been working with 416 and 415 and have also experienced the same dryness starting around the edges then working it's way throughout the entire candle/tart. My candles and tarts with a shelf life of more than 2 weeks will start to dry out with this powdery residue. I contacted Jason at Golden Brands for some tips on correcting this problem and it was suggested that I try adding crisco at 1/2 to 1 Tblsp pp...unfortunately for me, adding crisco made no difference at all. Im hoping that I'll have better luck with the 444 or 464. You might find the following threads helpful in the way that your not alone with this problem.   15. I placed an order with peaks and was given a free sample of their raspberry truffle with my order. Wow...What an awesome scent, great HT and CT. I made a little 1/2oz tart out of the left over wax at 6%, cured it for 2 hours, placed it in my little warmer and I could smell it throughout my whole house (1400 sq ft) in less than an hour. My kids were asking me where the chocolate was that I was cooking...lol...yeah right...The HT was so strong, I had to unplug my warmer. Just thought I'd post for anyone who might be looking for a great, strong chocolate scent for the valentine's holiday.
  16. As of now, my 5 fav's are: cranberry marmalade (CS) wildberry mousse (CS) pink sugar (peaks) french vanilla & amber (peaks) raspberry truffle (peaks) My 5 fav's could change with every fo order that I place.
  17. I've also been testing 415, this wax is very tempermental. Unfortunately, I haven't experienced much success wicking this wax (only been testing it for about a year now)...lol...grrr...lol...it's making me go crazy... I'm getting some samples of the 444 and 464 to try, hopefully I'll have better luck with one of them.
  18. I have been unsuccessful with single wicking 415 in any container between 2 1/2" to 3 1/8" in diam, no scent/no color. I recently found out that 444 is 415 only with 2% USA. Does this additive really make this wax easier to work with as far as wicking, smoother tops, etc...? Does anyone know if 464 is easier to work with as far as wicking goes because of the lower mp? Looks like I'll be getting some of the 444 and 464 to try out.
  19. I have been working with GB415 for over a year now, so far I like it for tarts but trying to wick this stuff has been a PITA not to mention ugly tops in between burns and too much hang up. Reading through this post has encouraged me to try 444 or 464, not sure wich one yet...any input on these two waxes and wicking them compared to 415 would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently testing with CD wicks. TIA

  21. I love making tarts or wickless with pumpkin souffle. However, when I add a burning wick to this scent, it smells like something burnt...made me sick
  22. That has been my experience also. The molded/heavier glass jars that I have used do seem to retain more heat than the tins. I'm getting some CDN's from JBN, I like the idea of these wicks being more resistant to the acidic properties of natural waxes.
