  1. I'll give it a try tomorrow. Good thing we have HOT HOT water. I just don't know if the antibacterial stuff will stick to the glass. It says it for hand washing, so we'll see. Thanks. Dawn
  2. You want to test every type of jar you would like to eventually sell. Everytime you change jars, test that jar. HTH. Dawn
  3. Can I use Ajax with an antibacterial in it then? It cuts grease too. Thanks. Dawn
  4. Math is not one of my strong points by any means. I don't have my notes right now but I did weigh an 8 oz. jj filled just below the rim and it weighs 12.8 oz. It has 1.5 oz verbena berry and one dye chip to 1 lb. wax. I need my notes to remember how much it weighed with the water. And I think I am falling in love with this scent. Dawn
  5. If wax weighs more than water, then why does the calculator on this site have us use water? Is it giving us numbers that are comparable to wax weight? Dawn
  6. To prevent wet spots, wash your containers with either Dawn or Parson's Sudsing Ammonia (I use ammonia). Use HOT water and wipe the container out using a clean discloth. Rinse in HOT water and set upside down to dry. All new glass has manufacturing residue left on it. Because it is generally oily, the Dawn or ammonia plus hot water cuts that residue, so that you are left with a squeaky clean surface for the wax to hang on to. Never put your fingers inside the jar after washing - you have oil on your fingertips! So that's how you prevent the wet spots. Thanks for posting that. I have not washed my jars. Now I am going to have to go and make another candle and see what happens. Do you have to use Dawn dish soap though? Wouldn't any type of dish soap work? Dawn
  7. I have the same wax and jars as you and I have always put my FO in at 125 and have great throw both cold and hot. I also have a lot of sweating going on too. But I guess that is just the joy of soy. Here is a link to a calculator on this website. http://www.candletech.com/calculator/container.php Dawn
  8. Well, according to Candles & Soap Making for Dummies, it says to use a soft microcrystalline to get the wax to hug the mold. I posted this somewhere else earlier and never did get a response from it. Dawn
  9. At least you girls/guys have a worktable. I only have my kitchen counter at the moment. One of these day's I hope DH will build me a worktable. Dawn
  10. <whispers>If you look closely at the picture, you can see some of the mess.<ends whisper> Dawn
  11. I know what you mean about the thermometer getting to 100 degrees. My second batch that I made was way slushy when I poured it after feeling I was waiting too long. It seemed like everytime I stirred it to "marry" everything, the temp. would go up, up, up. This last batch I had to pour at 102 degrees because I didn't want it to be like that last batch. Dawn
  12. Alll that I have seen so far are great!! I can't wait to be at a stage where I can do that. Dawn
  13. Very nice. I love that bear. But then again, I love all things stuffed & fluffy. Dawn
  14. Is Scottcrew new? I don't see much of a choice for any candle supplies. Dawn
  15. I guess no one has tried to make brown sugar outta wax before? Dawn
  16. Yes, I am referring to an unlit candle. I am not sure about sweating at the top of the candle so can't help ya there. Mine are sweating on the side of the jar. You can see the space between the jar and and the wax. That is what they refer to as sweating, correct? Dawn
  17. It appears I should have kept my big mouth shut. I just went to show my candles to my mom and one of them is sweating. Oh, the joy of soy I guess, hey? Dawn
  18. Thanks, but it looks like BC is the only one that carries those tools. I guess I will just have to order from there. After that I will look into the others for my regular supplies though.
  19. Anybody know of any more suppliers in Michigan? I was just over at BC looking at the EZ wick setter tool and the wick centering tool, and the shipping is more than the tools. I am trying to save money, not make the carrier rich. I searched on all the sites listed above but couldn't find it anywhere. Dawn
  20. Cool. I will be putting that on my list of things to buy. Wicking is the only part of this I actually don't like. That, and worrying about blowing up my kitchen. Thanks for the replies. Dawn
  21. I did a batch of candles yesterday using ivory dye chips and Creme Brulee FO. One of the candles is Ivory on one side and a light yellow on the other. They were not in sunlight. I have them in a corner cabinet in my dining room where the air conditioner is so they stay cool. The other candle is all Ivory, but the top has "pock" marks. This wouldn't have anything to do with the color change, would it? And I make sure that my color is very well blended as is my FO. (nothing better to do while waiting for the wax to cool to pouring temp so I stir, stir, stir.) Dawn
  22. I have a problem getting my wicks exactly on center in my 8 oz. jelly jars. BC has that wick centering tool. Would anyone recommend that I purchase this? At least that would be one thing I wouldn't have to worry about. Dawn
  23. Well, I made another batch today and forgot the warm the jars but, I have NO SWEAT!!! Wax is hugging the jar very nice. I do, however, have the top of one looking like it has "pock" marks so do I just heat the top to get rid of that? TIA. Dawn
  24. I'll keep a look out for your candles, if I can see through all the tears. That show makes me cry everytime.
