  1. I will do that tomorrow. I think I will heat the jars like the first batch. At least they didn't come out as bad as the second when it came to the sweating. I put the one's I made today in the basement in hopes that that will help them some. Thanks. Dawn
  2. I would use the scale. I believe that the measuring cups are in liquid measures. Dawn
  3. I watch this show every Sunday and this past Sunday I was thinking how cool would it be to send them a letter to use my candles someday. WTG! on getting some exposure.
  4. I just made my second batch of candles today and again they are sweating. The house is not that hot. Just over 70 degrees. According to the Candle & Soap Making For Dummies, It says to use a soft microcrystalline. I seached for this at BC and only came up with Petrolatum. It said it was for containers but didn't say it was to help sweating. Is this the same thing as microcrystalline? I have only made 5 candles and am sick of the sweating already!!! If I can get this taken care of, my candles would be great!!! Dawn
  5. I am going to make a new batch just like the one I am burning now and make sure that I don't have any wax on the side of the jar during the next set of tests. Plus I think I filled it just a little to far. It was hanging up in the last "thread" where the lid screws on. I just need to wait till it is completly cooled before moving it to a new room and test for the throw.
  6. I'll be making another batch tomorrow. This time I won't warm up the jars and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestions. Dawn
  7. The three hour point looked really good. (flame was awesome and melt pool didn't look to bad for a first burn. I did notice this morning that it had a lot of wet spots. Not sure what caused that. I am wondering if it's because I poured the wax with the jars still warm to the touch? I also accidently sloshed some wet wax around the jar and it dried up around the top of the jar. Should I try to heat gun the wax at the top of the jar to get it even with the rest of the wax? These candles were made with a soy kit from BC. Wouldn't they have made sure that the wicks would work with the jars and the wax, FO, and dye? I followed the directions that were given with the kit too. Thanks, Dawn
  8. Well, I did a 6 hour burn today and now it looks like crap. My flame was great at first then it was getting smaller as the hours passed. What should I do now? TIA Dawn
  9. OK. Thanks. I guess If I ever need anything else for my candle business, I should just go to Wal-Mart.
  10. Can I get a fire extinguiser from my local fire department? Where do I go to get one if not? TIA Dawn
  11. Ok. I did my first test burn yesterday. I am using a 2 3/4 in wide jar and let it burn for 2 3/4 hours. I did not get a full melt pool. Now today, I should burn it for 5.5 hours and have a full MP? There seems to be a lot of wax above the MP though. I may have to get my mothers digital camera and show you what it looks like later. I'll be meeting her at my nephews baseball game again tonight and post a pic then.
  12. I didn't notice this was an old post. Forget what I just said. Sorry.
  13. LMFAO!!! :laugh2: My dad use to use soap on a rope about 30 years ago. We (my brother & I) would get it for him for fathers day. And, no, he wasn't in prison.
  14. DH's off to return bottles/cans at Kroger so I will have him look for one for me. Their in the isle with the cooking utensils, correct? TIA. Dawn
  15. Kroger doesn't have a search feature. Can anyone tell me if Kroger carries the digital thermometers? I met my mom for my nephews baseball game and she gave me some money for a digital thermometer. I just my mom.
  16. Maybe next time I will try it without warming them up and see what happens.
  17. Thanks. I can't wait to get me a new thermometer and get the rest of them made. I am hoping that DH's horoscope for next week is correct. It said he will come into a money windfall late friday night. That's when they draw the Mega Millions numbers, and the JP is at $26 Million. Now that would make A LOT of candles.
  18. I got up this morning and checked on my new "babies" and I see one that is kinda separated from the jar. I warmed them in the oven before pouring and they were still kinda warm when I poured so not sure what could have caused just one to do this. Any Ideas? I am using the EZ Soy container kit from BCN.
  19. I have one for myself to test burn. I figure my tomorrow morning they should be ready to go. I will be burning it in the morning before I go see my brothers new house. But the other two are test candles for my sister and my mom. I may just fork out the extra bucks for that digital thermometer. Thanks for the tips.
  20. Thanks. I was wondering where I could get another one. I'll be sure to stop at Kroger and pick one up. I had fun. I am bummed cause I wanted to make more. Now I can't wait to burn one. I am giving one to my mom and my sister (it's her birthday this month so she gets a candle while she's home visiting. How much are the candy thermometers anyway?
  21. I just got done making my first candles. I only got to make 3 of them though before my thermometer broke on me. House smells good though. I used creme brulee
  22. I will be making my first batch of candles!!! I am going to make a creme brulee and a verbena berry candle. I tried the q-tip trick with the VB and the CB and it didn't smell too bad. I just might try mixing the two scents. Wish me luck.
  23. Does the Verbena Berry smell like lemons too. I just got some from BCN and it too smells like pledge.
